Ok. For my first efforts with the .avs editing, I simply made d2vs of each disc and made avs files that gave for four huge-ass video files for source footage, so I had the entire series in there. However, I quickly found that that simply would not do. The high quality files are extremely annoying and time consuming to look through for clips, with the lag and skipping frames. So, I've decided to go through a process that combines my previous source capturing methods with the new one. I will make d2vs of the sections I need and make a bunch of avs scripts to import those clips directly. It's much easier to look through the vobs for clips in dvd2avi than in premiere with avs scripts. Plus, I really only need to make one script and just make copies, then change the file name of the d2v. It'll be a bit less annoying than dragging the slider bar around those huge video files and trying to work around the lag, and less time-consuming than my old way, which also involved making d2vs of all of the clips I would need, but also included using TMPEGEnc to encode them into big-ass HuffYuv avis. Still space-conservative and time-conservative compared to the old way, but in theory less annoying than the way I was doing it.

It begins...

I have now begun editing with .avs files as footage. I am editing directly from the vobs.
And it is somewhat annoying.
The extremely high quality of the files means that there is a lag betwen when I hit stop and when it stops playing. Plus, it can't render the sound and the video at the same time due to the massively high quality of the video files.
Still, I can, and must, persevere. I must, I must, I must increase my video image quality.
I plan to encode this video as an XviD avi, again using the guides. In this fashion, my videos shall look nice and, theoretically, be smaller than the MPegs I have been making, although they will be a larger size (the 480 x 320 I have seen XviD encodes as being is nice for seeing the picture clearly).
Woot. Diorect-from-VOB editting and XviD avis. I am slowly becoming technically knowledgeable.
Yeeessss...
I should probably be worrying about my final tomorrow...
Bleah. It's an essay final. I can BS it.
I hate Ethics class... stupid bull-shit.
Welp, back to work.

I just realized something. I don't think that, when I first joined the site, I ever made an announcement thread.
...No, I don't think I did.
I wonder why people feel the need to make a thread announcing their arrival? Wouldn't their posting do the same thing?
Eh. Oh, well. More power to 'em. Go for what makes you happy.
Aaaaaand... plans for the Trigun vid are coming along peachy. I intend to try, for the first time, the Direct from the VOB method of video editing. God, I can't believe I've been afraid of AVISynth for so long, it's fucking EASY once you know what to put in for the scripts. So, all I need to do is rip the VOBs, type in a few lines of code, and boom, that's my source clip, and it's better quality than ripping, converting, and making clips manually, plus conserving HD space?
Hell. Yeah. All over it.
ErMaC, AbsoluteDestiny, thank you, both of you, for the information you have contributed on video editing and gathering source.
Ok. Now, it's time to take that knowledge and use it to make stupid crap videos that no one will like, maybe not even me!!
...Yea?

More Fear and Loathing of Chaos Angel

I forgot to mention the other idea I had that includes a drastically over-used song. Last Resort with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Like the Trigun one, I think the concept is strong enough to carry the video, but the over-use of the song makes me believe people will loathe it outright.
Eh.
I'm gonna be busy making this crap. Damn school cutting into my AMV time... ::shakes fist::
Oh, and I also have an idea for a TV Movie that I could shoot at the campuses V station. But, I need to hammer out details of the screenplay over Christmas.
Damn. 2, maybe 3, video projects, the script, and finals to boot...
I wonder if I could drop out of college and follow my plan to start freelance video-editting as a way of making money while I shoot independant films?
...No, I still need those video production classes first.
::shakes fist::
Ugh.
Ok. Back to homework.
Damn masochistic bastards...

Woot. Why I am saying woot? Because they make me give a title, and I have no other ideas.

I've gotten an idea for a Trigun vid that will probably get me reviled, hated, and loathed throughout the AMV community. The combo has been done four times before according to the database (although I have always thought the originality of a video should be based upon styleand approach, not song/anime combo), and the band is reviled by many members of the AMV community. Yes, it is Linkin Park, Papercut to be specific. I heard the song again, for the first time in about six months or so, and I was hit with several ideas for a Trigun video wile listening to it. I feel the idea, as I envision it, has merit, and I intend to go through with it after I finish my section for Mission: Improbable. Hopefully, it will turn out the way I am envisioning the video. I think it'll turn out ok, but if it does manage to avoid total suckage, people will probably still hate it just because it's LP and they are so over-used for videos.
Even though I haven't even begun to work on it,I have alreay decided notto put it into any sort of AMV contest. It'd be booed out from the get-go, I feel it.
Bah.
In other news, I spent $50 at Best Buy today. I HATE to spend money, I get insanely nervous when I do. But, Ido it anyway, because there's no point in having it if you do nothing with it.
I got a new CD player to replace my old one which broke over the weekend, a copy of Grave of the Fireflies, which I have been wanting for awhile now, and I bought American McGee's Alice for my brother. I owed him a real gift to replace the Care Bears DVD I got him as a joke on his birthday. The total came to $75, but with the gift card I got from my aunt as an early Christmas gift, it only came to $50.
Yea me. ^_^
Other other news.
I have a very vague idea for a non-anime music video. I was watching Ice Age on Thursday with my little cousin and my sister, and some elements of it impressed me. The plot was contrived and the BGM in some parts was stereotypical and overly melodramatic at parts, but I loved the characters. Sid and Scrat were unimpressive, pure comedy relief, but Manfred and Diego I thought were very well-developed characters. I liked the way they showed what had happened to Manny's family (as a flashback with no dialogue)and the unspoken backstory of Diego. The way the other members of his tribe were talking to him, I got the distinct impression that he had failed them at some point in the past and was trying to make up for that. Of course, Diego very predictably switched sides in the end, but as I said, the plot is contrived.
I have a very vague idea for an Ice Age video that I would like to toy with. I need to get a solid concept and an idea for a song, I will probably work on the Trigun video first since I have a much stronger idea of what I want to do with that, but I do love the ideas Ice Age gave me for a video, and I'd like to go with them.
