JOURNAL: Chaos Angel (Dave Warren)

  • 2003-05-03 14:27:09 I was watching Secret of Nihm over lunch at drill today (didn't get to finish it...). I love that movie. I also saw a couple scenes that I think would work for a potential video idea of mine...

    More on that later...

After I finish Finals, I am going to try to get the Hellsing video finished by the end of the month for Otakon, but if not, I think I'll send in Helluva Bad Day (currently my highest star-rated video).

I'm not sure if I will be able to finish the video the way I want it. I'll make that decision after I get vol. 4 ripped and put some more time into looking for scenes I can use.

I would like to finish it though, because I like the idea. There's already a plethora of action-oriented Hellsing videos, but this one is a more moderately-paced emotion-based thing. It seems really mediocre to me currently, but I want to finish it if I can all the same.

Hellsing's actual animation has always struck me as being rather slow-to-moderately paced, it doesn't move very fast, so the rhythm of this song fits it nicely to me.

Plus, I think I will be the first person to combine Hellsing with the Smashing Pumpkins. ^~^

I think I'll need to take Vol. 4 into Best Buy and say it doesn't work, because while vol. 1-3 ripped beautifully, vol. 4 doesn't want to rip at all. .1 speed. Slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwww. I think I'll take in Akira while I am at it and try to get both replaced.

I still hope it's the drive. Compy is shut down for the weekend, so hopefully, I'll get back and it'll be nice and cool so I can immediately have it start ripping Vol. 4. ^_^
  • 2003-05-02 09:47:34 According to the star averages, my best video is still Helluva Bad Day.

    And that's all I got. ^_^
  • 2003-05-01 20:33:03 I now have a Livejournal account that I will be writing on in addition to this journal.

The SN is because... I couldn't think of anything else.

    ^_^
  • 2003-05-01 13:29:25 Another thought... If I do decide to go for an art major and proceed to do graduate study at an animation school, I could theoretically devote the next two years to taking Japanese classes, then go to an animation school in Japan...

That may be a bit TOO ambitious...
  • 2003-05-01 12:49:37 I can't fucking wait for summer... I knw I'll be working my ass off at some random job for the majority of it, but I just need to get away from this school...

Now Playing- Pizza Day by The Aquabats. Such a mindlessly happy song...

I just found out today that I'm nigh-skrewed for my film production class. With a D on the first exam, and a low C on the second, there's not much chance of me passing the class with the B I need to go on (not that I'm even sure I want to, anymore...). Plus, there was apparently a miscommunication with my instructor, and I missed him telling me that it was NOT ok to do my fourth project entirely on digital. "This is a film class, so you need to do at least part of the project on film". The guy is completely opposed to digital filmmaking. He hates it. I can understand when he says that digital is not as sensitive to light as film, but then he said that digital makes people lazy. It took, and still takes, a large chunk of my willpower to not get in his face and tell him that the digital medium, while it is easier than film, doesn't make people lazy; people allow themselves to become lazy because it's easier. They don't make themselves go the extra measures to overcome the limitations of the technology. You say that you get lazy and sloppy when you use digital, Mike? That's really your fault, not the medium's. If you didn't allow yourself to take shortcuts, they wouldn't happen, now would they?

He's a nice guy, but he has a huge elitism stick up his ass.

So, he said that he is allowing people who can't make their projects in time the following alternative. They get a D for the class, and then they can turn in the late project by May 30th, and he will assess it and give them the appropriate grade for the class. I'm gonna have to do that. So, instead of scanning in my drawings, I'll have to film and pan over them manually, ship that off for processing, and edit it next week and get it to him, hopefully, before finals week is over. I really hope I can get it to him before school's out. I don't want to have to edit it at home and mail it to him. Just... no.

God, this class has totally kicked my ass. I don't think I even care anymore... I am toying with the idea of looking into some animation schools in California, then finishing up here with an art major (to improve my drawing skills) and applying out there and hopefully study real animation, not traditional filmmaking. Problem is, those places cost a shitload of money, and even if I do stay in the Guard after my initial contract, they won't pay for anything beyond a bachelors degree (four years). So, I'd be on my own if I wanted to go to some kind of graduate school for animation. If that's even an option now...

God, I don't wanna mess with film editting anymore... I hate it, it's tedious and irritating. >_<

Song has switched to a few others in the space of writing this, and is now John Mayer's No Such Thing.

"They love to tell you 'Stay inside the lines'"... God, that line is SOOOO my film production teacher... if it isn't "artistic" and on traditional film, it's bad.

Someone once told me that this school pretty much teaches you to be an art house filmmaker. Meh.

It's worth noting that I abhor restrictions of any kind. I feel they limit my creativity. Well, I've also had a horrible time this whole semester coming up with ideas. For every project, I tried so long to come up with an idea that I liked, that I had to go with a crappy idea at the last minute just to have something to turn in. Most of my ideas pretty much require a fully functional animation studio to get them the way I want them, and I don't have access to that .

I think too big, that's my problem. >_<
