JOURNAL: kyburg (Donna Hutt Stapfer Bell)

  • First, I'm gonna cry...then I'm going to spit up. 2002-02-03 23:41:20 *Blink* The Ram lost it. Oh. My. God.

But wasn't the pre-game and the half-time just the best?!!!

U2, Paul McCartney and Barry Manilow. I was SO in heaven...and Bono kicks major ass, did you see how he handled the crowd? EVERYONE should watch this guy, he is just the BEST.

Not just the Fanfare for the Common Man, oh no. The whole freakin' Lincoln work by Aaron Copland...*drool* And I've been waiting for someone to recognize "Let Freedom Ring" - but then again, who else would know it was written for the re-dedication of the Statue of Liberty after all the restoration work was done?

Maria Carey may yet return...nice job with a tough tune.

But did anyone notice during the "heroes" sequences, how few women were represented? JFC...women serve in our military, in our fire departments, our police forces...not just as nurses, pom-pom girls, girlfriends or mothers of heroes! Cripes, yeah, it's a guy thing, but that's just the point. If the guys don't think women are doing the job, what's the point?

Love the way the Declaration of Independence was presented...'bout damn time someone reminded us what a lovely, literate man we had in Thomas Jefferson. Does anyone else remember what the 5th Dimension did with it in 1976? Go pick up the "Portrait" album - if you can. *sigh*

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...not just us Americans, but everyone in the world. Danny Pearl is still alive...

Wish I was taking a civics class right now - I'd blow the top off it, for sure.

Outstanding show. Welcome to the ultimate American tribal ritual.
  • Brace Yourself 2002-02-01 18:41:57 treeprincess....

    Envision

A 300 pound Sailor Moon - about 15 years old.

In Spandex. With a posse...walking down the hall.

Saying "Oh, I just eat whatever I want to, it doesn't matter to me!"

    Honest. 1998 Anime Expo.

(There ought to be a weight limit for spandex...scary. VERY scary.)

  • *blink* Over, already? 2002-02-01 14:35:48 Sheesh, the nominations are done already? Crap.

    [WHINE WARNING}

You know, I tried to look at the videos listed in a number of categories - and I have the bandwidth here, I can download a couple if I COULD -- I logged a number of prob reports - most of the time, the file was not available, let alone access to the server.

All of you, gomen. I would have voted for you if I could have seen your stuff. Honest. Out of all the categories, I could only post votes in two of them. That in my book, sucks.

And don't mention seeing stuff at conventions - I only attend Anime-Expo, and that this year is iffy (ASK me about last year's nightmare...), I'm still knashing teeth about how many other cons are going on everywhere and it's just ugly.

And I would really love a small set of categories in "All Time Best" grouping - so many of the videos I got to see for the first time this year were not available for voting at all - because - they were older than this year.

    [WHINE MODE=OFF]

People at Ushicon with long drives home - go pick up the Blue Moves double album from Elton John and listen to it on your way home. Mostly instrumental stuff, moody, good driving music with plenty of good anime video ideas --

Spending too much damn time driving. Four hours a day, sometimes more. *grump*
  • *rant* 2002-01-31 20:37:42 Can't see Metropolis.
    Can't got to Ushicon.
Can't get home before 8:00 PM.

    *grump*

    Sucks being a grown-up.

EK-I used to get up Saturday mornings to watch the Monkees...back in the day when I had one of those Yellow Submarine lunchboxes (had it for two years and banged the sh*t out of it), wore mini skirts (with short underneath or no playing on the monkey bars) and flashed peace signs at everyone.

Say what you like, but the sixties were a great time to be a kid.

*Thinks about watching Gigantor, Kimba, The Amazing Three...*

*Thinks about driving two hours to get home*

    ...mommee...

  • *need coffee* 2002-01-30 14:11:40 But it's too damn cold to go outside. Can't believe it - I'm wearing four layers, my cubie mate has a space heater on, and it's freakin' Los Angeles, fer crissakes!! Last time I did this, I was in Switzerland at Christmastime...and then, had a good excuse? WTF?!!

EK - that whole site is WRONG. And I promptly forwarded the link to everyone I know. Love it....

Can you say Nixon? You ought to feel sorry for me - not only did I survive the last Republication economy-bash with Reagan, I can *remember* Nixon's years...and they weren't pretty and this is beginning to look a WHOLE lot like them! Hey, you're nineteen, want to die for your country? For something undefined, unwinnable and a cover for a whole lot of pork belly contracting by you-know-who?

UGH. I'm Green Party. Now you know why. (And I hate Nader too, don't get me wrong.)

*going back to watch more Weiss Kreuz and Macross*
