JOURNAL: kyburg (Donna Hutt Stapfer Bell)

  • Welcome to Freaky Ass Friday 2002-03-22 11:42:33 Fielded a phone call from Jim's older brother in Chicago last night - their grandmother hadn't been feeling well, and was scheduled for some exploratory work in a couple of week. Well, last night, things went south.

She dying. All of a sudden, there's cancer everywhere and she's got a couple of months to live. It's a old, tried and true scenario - never been sick, healthy as a horse...just a touch of diabetes, a little hyperension...shoot, she's over 75 years old.

Boom, gone. This is Jim's first go round with a death in the family and it's hitting hard.

Me? I'm thinking of having Christmas for her in two weeks - maybe get her a bowl of goldfish to have something pretty to look at. Shopping for one of those fab silk and embroidery kimonos in Chinatown this weekend.

I want her to have her flowers now, dammit.

How did they lady put it? Fuckity Fuck Chips on a Hot Fuck Sundae?

    That about does it.
  • Beer 2002-03-21 12:46:29 And iserlohn - I exercised some stock options yesterday - got the swag for tickets. So I'll see you in Salzburg...or something. (Sis did her tour there when she was in school...trippy, huh?)
  • *rubs hands together* 2002-03-21 12:39:26 Plane tickets to Oakland, California on SWA - $74
    Hotel Accomodations - $50
Tickets to the Exploratorium & Tactile Dome - $14
Rental Car and Gas to drive to see Big Trees - $75
Opportunity to show someone approaching forty that there is still Wonder left in the world for his birthday - Priceless.

Last I heard from the Anime-Expo rumor mill, there appears to be issue with licensing to allow the AMV contest this year.

Oh, boy. Phade's heard me on this one already - and if they are thinking about this with regarding to the convention, it's bad news.

I've done trade shows in this town. You don't use music. Period. For anything - because the venue charges you an arm and a leg for the licensing for the ASCAP and BMI nozzles. The venue holds the liability for copyright infringement, you see - not the con committee, directly. (Although, anyone can argue that they will be drawn in with the venue if a suit is filed.) I know the Long Beach Convention Center. They've seen it all - and they ain't getting away with it two years in a row - if they had trouble with it last year (in the dead of night), they're having more trouble with it this year. I also know the repuation of some members of the con committee - "Oops, I didn't know. Sorry!"

Jacon is sounding better and better and better and better......
  • Not too bad, not too bad at all... 2002-03-18 09:08:29 *ducks*

    This is Monday?

Rained all last night - stopped just before the morning drive, so it was a breeze this morning.

And rain this time of year means only one thing - GREEN. Everything greens up once the sun shines and the flowers follow fast afterward. Los Angeles is nothing but an irrigated desert - when the water comes, everything expodes. Literally.

Got two emails before leaving for work - both *wonderful* -

Our fan fic finally got posted to rec.arts.anime.creative last week - if you can stand to look at one more Ranma 1/2 story, look for Soleil and Motherhood Pt. 1 - *chuckles*

And if you like it, you can vote for it - but if you want the link, go to my fan fic page (excuse the terrible HTML design, I'm working on something better) - http://www.geocities.com/konanut/fanfic.htm (for as long as it lasts).

And we blew the shit out of stuff in Battletech at Dave & Busters Saturday.

    Life is thus good.
  • * I love Saurday Mornings * 2002-03-16 10:16:39 No places to go, nowhere I have to be...except listening to music, drinking tea and waltzing across the room with the headphones on. I like everything LOUD...studio level or better, and yeah, I work hard to get the mix balanced out juuuust right.

So I spend hours on Saturday mornings ruining my hearing. Video ideas out of this morning's concert:

A DBZ video to "Dueling Banjos." I told this one to Phade and made him laugh.

"Tell Her She's Lovely" by El Chicano (Gawd, I love Rhino Records...) for Faye Valentine.

Then I got evil and decided "Falling In Love (is hard on the knees)" by Aerosmith might work too. @_@ Evil. *smacks self*

"Fins" by Jimmy Buffett for Ranma 1/2. Dunno how I'd make it work, but I'll have to try....

Then I started tearing into the hard drive to find stuff I forgot I had. Like the claxon I'd downloaded from an "Emergency" fan site...y'know, "Squad 57, see the man --"

Jim's at work. Silently, I replaced the Windows start-up theme. Won't he fall off his chair the next time he uses this machine!

He got called out on a registry assignment in Lancaster this morning - and just fielded a call. He's on the way home - oopsie in scheduling.

That's four hours of driving. But - I sense fun in the offing!! A movie! Lunch! Dave & Busters!!

    I love Saturdays....
