Waiting for Apple
2010-03-01 03:54:07
So...my HP notebook computer croaked in late January (bad CMOS battery is partly to blame) and I've been using the backup Dell for the month since. It works fine for web surfing but not very well as a media PC. (Looking back, it's a wonder I managed to use it during college.)
Anyway, I finally worked up the courage to order a MacBook Pro on Wednesday night - a 15-inch with anti-glare screen. (Hoping I don't have to return it for a newly upgraded model using the 14-day price return policy.) I will likely buy Final Cut Express later after getting used to using a Mac full-time and after feeling out iMovie (and trying some crude lipsync?).
As far as AMV material comes, I now have the first three seasons of Case Closed (preordered Viridian editions of 4 & 5) as well as the first six movies. I should buy FLAG one of these days for that Blue States idea I still have. Maybe pick up Welcome to NHK for cheap for Josh Rouse "Man Who Doesn't Know How To Smile" idea. And the DearS/Margot serious tone idea is still floating around, although with lesser enthusiasm than some others.
Saw that the AMV VCA winners were announced in early February. Once again, I forgot to vote but I'll try to watch the nominees in some of the categories.

Vegas 9 On Its Way!
2009-04-17 17:01:24
I got around to ordering Vegas 9 from Amazon on Saturday (4/11) and it shipped a few days ago. The expected delivery date is Monday.
Since my last journal entry, I bought Case Closed Season 3 during Best Buy's half off anime clearance in early March, which should help me get my CC/Go! Team video off the ground. Other ideas that are still semi-viable in my mind: Madlax/Immaculate Machine, FLAG/Blue States, NHK/Josh Rouse, DearS/Margot. I might focus on lipsync practice with segments before moving onto full videos that require that level of timing.
I found out about the new streaming feature via the front page and I think it's nifty. That addition pushed me over the edge to finally donating to the site. I left the "Allow non-donators to stream my videos" box checked by default for my one video so more people would be able to see how I struggled to use WMM three years ago.

Might buy software in near future
2008-08-28 07:43:23
I noticed that Sony Vegas got a refresh earlier this month with three different versions: regular Movie Studio 9, a Platinum Edition, and a Platinum Pro Pack. The normal edition seems to do all I would want it to including full-screen preview support for single monitors. It's also priced sensibly at around $55 at Amazon and Newegg with free shipping so I might bite the bullet next month and buy the software so I can hopefully put something out by the end of the year.

Spring Brings New Enthusiasm
2008-04-01 20:39:47
I'm full of energy now that spring quarter has started, bringing with it another opportunity to do well in classes. It also helps that I seem to like my courseload after the first sessions. Another source for my boost in gusto is that yesterday I bought four box sets for half off at Best Buy: Elfen Lied, Evangelion, Noein, and Tokko. I'm really interested to see if Noein lives up to the critical acclaim from anime reviewers.
I have had an Eva video in the plans for a while to the song "The Tide" and now that I have the shiny disc material, I can replot the shot structure as I watch the series again, this time in Japanese. (The first time I saw Eva was through Adult Swim, thus it was dubbed.) Hopefully I can also put some work into the DearS and Tsukihime videos I also have established plans to produce.

Lazing Around Not Working On Projects
2007-12-24 05:28:24
So I'm currently on winter vacation and unfortunately I haven't been working on my DearS project. I did manage to get Vegas installed and how to get it to accept footage (DivX encoding) so now I just need to encode the episodes, diagram, and begin piecing it together. I also need to start finishing series (or marathoning, as the case may be with some of them) since I have a couple weeks of free time so I can make strides to reduce my "On-Hold" section on MyAnimeList.
Meanwhile, I just put a bunch of random music into Winamp, pushed play, and came upon this Indian-electronic song by Karsh Kale that I believe came on my new notebook that could work paired with Ergo Proxy. Of course, I will have to watch the series first but if after that, I'll see what kind of ideas spawn and are viable options. The Meteora album from Linkin Park came up soon after and I realized why almost all the songs on there are perfect matches for Naruto videos, especially "Numb" and "Somewhere I Belong". I guess I hadn't really paid that much attention to the lyrics before...
Finally, tonight I went ahead and bought stuff from RightStuf's Xmas Sale, getting Pumpkin Scissors v.1, DNA Squared, Super Gals Season 1, and the Comic Party thinpak so I should be getting those in January/February via free Economy shipping.
