  • Pricing anime DVDs... 2002-08-13 17:40:58 I went looking for a place to buy the Escaflowne boxed set from, only to discover amazon no longer has it in stock. So I went looking for other on-line stores with reasonable prices. I have to buy almost every anime DVD off the internet, this town hardly has any anime. I could buy Princess Mononoke here for a reasonable price, same with Metropolis, but those are DVDs I don't feel like spending my money one. They had some Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne DVDs here sold seperately for 50 DOLLARS EACH!! (That's in Canadian $ by the way). FIFTY DOLLARS!!!? Where do they get those prices from? Even amazon.ca (the Canadian amazon) has them for that expensive! What's with that? I can buy them from amazon.com for $25.49 each, and that's still only about $41 Canadian. So I have to look on-line for the best prices possible where I can hopefully buy a boxed set and save some money.

I found a place called www.animecornerstore.com. I hadn't heard of it before, but it looks like they have pretty good prices and reasonably fast shipping. I found the Escaflowne set for $160 ($256 Canadian), the Cowboy Bebop set for $140 ($224 Canadian) and Shamanic Princess for $23 ($36.80 Canadian). I want them all! Argh!

I think I want Escaflowne the most. I heard Shamanic Princess is supposed to be good, but I haven't seen any of it yet and I haven't really heard much about it. Cowboy Bebop should be awesome, but I want to wait to see more of it before I buy the DVDs. I want Evangelion too... but that will have to wait...

All my money is going... going... going...

Probably by the time I get any of these DVDs school will be almost starting. Where will I find the time? No... summer... don't go...

At least I'll have finished my Oh My Goddess video by then so I can watch them without cutting into my editing time and prolonging this vid longer than I have already...
  • *WOOHOO!* 2002-08-13 04:07:22 I just received an e-mail from Lostboy, who ran the Middle Tennesse Anime Convention contest that was running this last weekend...

My Trigun video won the Fan Favorite Award!O_O

    WEE WEE WEE WEE WEE!!!

    ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

I'm kind of surprised about that... most people seemed to like my Ah My Goddess video, One Day (which I'd also entered in MTAC), much better than my Trigun one. Plus, I wouldn't think such a serious video would be a fan favorite... but I guess there were lots of Trigun fans in the audience or something:D

I don't know how my AMG video did yet, or which other videos won which categories, but hopefully Lostboy or someone else will post in the forum to inform us of the results. I really want to know how it went:)

I wish I could have been there... *sigh*...

THIS SO AWESOME!!^_^ I get a certificate sent to me in a few days^_^

I want to know how Sierra's vid did too... and despite what she may think I believe she stands a good chance of winning an award of some kind for her Cheerleading Remix.

    Happy happy happy happy happy...

Progress on the vid: I spent a few more hours working on it. It's getting there. It's really really close to completion... then I have to export and encode it then find a way to host it... what I might have to do is take down one or even both of my other videos in order to put this one up. I know it's probably going to be a big file since it's over six minutes... what I'm probably going to do is take down my older two to put up my new video and my Dancing Remastered vid. I'll let those be available for a while before putting one or both of my older ones back up.

    Woohoo^_^
  • Bored bored bored bored bored bored.... 2002-08-12 19:56:28 I am doing absolutely nothing right now. I just finished your review for our opinion exchange, Aaronlye... you can go read it now if you want.

Sierra has stolen the Fifi computer (which is the computer that has Premiere on it) to work on her video. I want to work on my video! Argh! It's almost done! I just have to fix a few things and then it's done!

I spent about 28 and a half hours so far on the video. That's not very long, and the video is six minutes long too. That's about how long I spent on my four minute One Day video. I spent twice that on my Trigun video, and I'm not entirely sure how long I worked on my Dancing Remastered vid. But I guess it looks good, and that's all that matters^_^

I have decided that I can no longer download so many anime episdoes. I'm just downloading too many and eating too much bandwith. If I keep it up, the cable company's gonna kick me off. So Sierra and I decided we want to buy all six Cowboy Bebop DVDs. We just have to decide when. Later in the year I also want to get Escaflowne, and maybe the Escaflowne Movie.

I'm still incredibly bored... bored... bored...

Scary thought of the day: School starts in less than a month!! Ahhh!! Where will I find the time to edit? Of course, I don't really have any ideas for a video after I'm done my OMG vid. I have a couple ideas for Escaflowne, but I don't own the DVDs yet and probably won't for a while. I'm sure I could think of something if I looked for an idea... but maybe I shouldn't get any ideas so I can concentrate on things other than AMVs...
  • .............. 2002-08-09 19:30:04 ...

    ...

I just finished watching The End of Evangelion.

    ...

    ...........

Is The End of Eva meant to make your head hurt like this?

    ...

I have never been so royally disturbed by a movie. I liked the ending of the series way better than the movie. End of Eva was just too... gory... and half the time I was watching it I was wondering "... what was that supposed to be?" I really liked the Eva series... then the movie just... did nothing for me.

    ********************************
    WARNING! SPOILERS FOR EVANGELION!
    ********************************

The part of Eva I really liked best was the middle. The characters weren't all overly depressed like they were at the ending, and they all seemed more like individuals, while at the end it all seemed like the characters were thinking the same thing: "I don't want to be alone". I was really getting to like the characters, particularly Rei; I admired her strength. And I appreciated the sense of humour most of the characters had at that time. Then it just got way too dark and depressing. What bothered me a lot was that a reason for why everyone was getting so depressed was never really given. No one really died (until the ending of course during the time everyone was depressed), and nothing terribly traumatic seemed to happen to the characters, yet they were all crazily depressed. I could have sympathized if something had actually happenned to cause that depression, like if Toji had really been killed by the dummy plug in ep 18 instead of just getting hurt. Toji was one of Shinji's only friends, and his death would have given Shinji reason to go crazy. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Toji as a character, but they hardly even showed him at all after ep 18, so he could have died and it wouldn't have made too much of a difference. It got very depressing later on in the series, almost too depressing in my opinion, but the series was still really good in my mind. I found episode 25 and the start of 26 almost boring because a lot of what was said at these parts had been said earlier. The end of 26 I liked a lot. It left you open to interpret it by itself, and from the way I see it it was about Shinji realizing that he can go on living even after all that's hapenned with the Angels and the Evangelions. I liked that ending. All the movie did for me was disturb me. I still like Eva, it is definitely one of the better series, I just don't want to watch the movie again. Royally, royally disturbed...

This is the end of my rant.

    ***************
    END OF SPOILERS
    ***************

On a lighter night, my video is making progress. I did a lot of fixing up on it but I still have to fix the beginning and ending... the ending needs some major work.

I want to buy both the Cowboy Bebop boxed set and Escaflowne boxed set. I know that if I just continue to download the fansubs off kazaa, I will love them and buy the sets anyway. I am going to be so poor...

Argh! My head still hurts! I need to go watch a happy-go-lucky video or anime or something...
  • I have worked on my video 2002-08-07 03:36:05 I have been working on my new video for the past five and a half hours. In total I've worked on it for twenty one and a half hours. I was expecting to work on it for longer than I have, but the video has turned out even better than I hoped it would. I am now completed the core of the video, and just have to go back and do some major fix-ups on parts I already did. There are some things I really have to fix at the beginning, and I HAVE to do something about that voice-over, then I have to almost competely do the last ten seconds or so of the vid... and a few scene changes are needed but I'm very nearly done it.

This is my favorite video so far; it's much more emotional than all of my others and I also think the editing is smoother. Everything just seemed to fit so perfectly when I worked on the project, probably because the song just suits Oh My Goddess so well. Even though I only did a few days of planning, I knew exactly what was going to go where and what kind of effects I was going to do. I tried to use differnet types of effects from my previous works in this video; I did a lot of slowing down and speeding up of the clips and I did tons of black-and-white vs. colour fiddling but not too many heavy-duty effects. I used some overlays at the end but tried not to go overboard on those; I went back to doing strobe lights too (but they don't flash like crazy this time). Sierra tells me she really likes this video of mine and that I should enter it in a con; unfortunately most contest deadlines are over by now... but I can still enter in SpPanda's online con if I want^_^

I have no idea how much longer I'm going to take on the video so don't ask...

I want to buy three different boxed sets: Eva, Bebop, and Escaflowne. I think I'm either going to buy Bebop or Escaflowne (or both...). I don't think I want to do a video to Evangelion... there's already so many out there and that show messes with my head so much I think I'd go crazy if I tried to think of a concept for a video to that series...
