JOURNAL: silver_moon (Valerie )

  • Christmas tomorrow:) 2002-12-24 21:14:54 Even though it's Christmas Eve, it oddly doesn't feel a lot like Christmas yet here. The main reason: there's no snow. Usually by this time of year there's at least five feet of snow! I don't know what's up with that... it just isn't a proper Christmas without snow. The weather people said there was a 100 % chance of snow today (maybe they're just being overly-optimistic), and it's 7 o'clock in the evening and it hasn't happened yet. But it might snow just on Christmas day, like in the movies, so I'm hoping. :)

In case any of you didn't see my post in the AMV Announcements Forum, I have my new website up:

As for my video-in-progress: I have previously guessed that my video would be done sometime in February, but now I think I'm going to be done sometime next month already. I am done quite a bit already, I just have some frame-by-frame editing left to do. Most of the timing and scene-placement is already done. Let's see... I have about 33 frames that I still have to delete backgrounds on (usually I take about ten or twelve minutes to do one frame). I've already edited 47 or so, so I guess I'm getting there. The timing took me a long time, for the first minute or so of the video anyway. After the first minute I started to get a better feel for how to time it so the next parts went faster than the first one. I'm being very picky with this video, which I guess is a good thing, but I really want it to be done because I've been working on it since October... and for me that's a fairly long time.

After I'm done my Bebop vid I'm going to get back to work on my and Sierra Lorna's comedy video, and then I think I might even get back into making Final Fantasy videos again. I might. If I do, I'll just re-make my old ones (except Dancing With Myself, which I already remastered) using Premiere and use actual ripped footage rather than downloaded junk. I wouldn't really remaster the videos, just re-edit the same cuts and scene placements in higher quality. I probably wouldn't even release the remakes, I'm just getting sick of seeing my old videos in such terrible quality. Then I might make a new video to FF8, FF9, and FF10. If I'm in the mood for it. I'll see what happens...

    Happy Holidays, everyone. ^_^
  • It's December already... 2002-12-01 23:31:21 I'm currently making myself a webpage. Sierra is re-designing hers, so I thought I should make my own rather than just have my own little section of my sister's webpage dedicated to my videos. Hopefully I can have it finished and up on the internet sometime this month.

My Bebop video is going fairly slowly. The song I'm using has a beat that I'm finding pretty difficult to accurately edit to, not to mention the fact that editing all the frames is going to take a loooong time still. I estimate that I'm going to get it finished in February or March of next year. I'm not entirely sure what to think of the video. I guess I'll wait to see what it turns out like and then I'll decide if I like it or not.

I can't wait to see what the Mission Improbable project ends up looking like. It was lots of fun to edit my track. I ended up doing less digital effects than I was planning, since the Sailor Moon footage I was using already was pretty visual and flashy, and I thought adding effects might make it look cluttered. But I like how my track turned out, anyway. ^_^

I'm watching my Journey of Days video a lot more than I thought I would when I finished it about a month ago. I find it to be one of my more reviewable videos, for me anyway. One Day and Journey of Days are the ones I like to watch over again most, mainly because they're not so dramatic and they're less serious than most of my other videos. I consider some of my other videos better edited and with a better story than these two, but I still enjoy watching them most for some reason.

And that's all for this journal entry...
  • Lots of editing happening... 2002-11-16 16:51:55 I am currently in the middle of editing two video projects.

One of them is a comedy video that I am making with Sierra Lorna. We are arguing quite a bit over the scene selection, but it's lots and lots of fun to edit anyway; it's probably the video that I've had most fun editing of all the videos I've done (though One Day was pretty fun to make too). We currently only have half the footage we need to complete the video though, and we're going to have to wait until Christmas to get the rest of the DVDs. So the video probably won't be out until around January.

The other one I'm editing is another drama video (suprise, suprise) to Cowboy Bebop. I am trying to do several different things with this video. I really don't want it to be a sappy video, since I've made quite a few of those already, so I'm trying to capture a darker tone in this video but still make it emotional. I do still want there to be an artistic side, however, and am trying to use some more unique effects than what I've previously used. All of the effects I've done so far in this video were done with frame-by-frame editing in Photoshop. I like how they look, and I find frame-by-frame editing, though extremely time-consuming, very fun to do. So I don't know if I'll do any effects whatsoever that don't involve using frame-by-frame. I want these effects to be more subtle, so I don't think I'll use any big flashing lights or zoom effects this time. I've planned this video like crazy, and even though I've only done about the first twenty seconds, I like it already. I hope it turns out like I want it too.

I think I want to adopt the style of editing I used in Journey of Days. I find myself liking the straight cuts and action syncing I used in it much more than my previous style of lots of different scenes with crossfades. And I have to stop flipping by scenes so fast...
  • Videos are re-encoded with new audio... 2002-11-02 14:18:28 If you were unable to play the audio in my videos before, I now have them re-encoded with the mpeg layer-3 audio codec so they should be fine now. I did this with Let it Make Me Strong, In My Arms Again, Dancing With Myself Remastered, and Journey of Days. Also, this compressor made my videos 5-10 MB smaller (but there wasn't any loss in quality) so if you want versions of my videos that take up less space, go ahead and download them again.

The mpeg layer-3 codec seemed to mess up the audio in my One Day video for unknown reasons, so I completely re-encoded that video as a widescreen mpeg. If you want One Day in widescreen, go ahead and download that^_^
  • Is it Christmas yet? 2002-10-29 22:17:15 I am planning for another drama video that I want to make in the future. I am going to be planning for a long time. Mostly because I only have half the footage I need for the video. I won't be able to get the other half of Cowboy Bebop until Christmas. But that does mean I can solidify my concept and plan lots before starting the project.

I don't think it's going to be the most original Bebop video out there, but I do have some different ideas for effects I could do and styles to edit scenes in. It will involve frame-by-frame editing, which is something I've wanted to try. It's not going to be anything so crazy at what my sister Sierra is doing right now, though. She's going to need many more months to finish the video she's making...

Also when we get the rest of the Bebop DVDs, Sierra and I are planning on a Comedy video. It'll be a good change for me from the drama videos I do all the time...
