I just love how underwelming new technology is, like, EVERY single time. Part of the reason I am an anime fan is simply cuz dvds rock. I mean... I couldn't tell the diference between a live action VHS (in Dolby Pro Logic of coarse), DVD and now HD-DVD.... Seriously?? WHAT the hell is the difference???
Oh... the great success?? I finally got my HD-DVD drive to work. So I used it to watch my copy of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (great movie ^.^) on HD-DVD to compare to my DVD copy of KKBB found on the OTHER side of the HD-DVD ;p nice. I love that HD-DVDs are backwards compatible... but that's a story left for.... maybe NEVER o.0 trust me, you don't want to hear it ;p. Anyway I am terribly underwhelmed. After 4 hours of movie (1 movie... I watched it 2x, lucky me =3) I cannot give a rat's ass about HD-DVD.
And THAT brings me back to anime! I liek anmime DVDs ;p the anime itself... not so much. Why?? Simply because of my reaction to DVDs and now HD-DVDs. If it wasn't for the INCREDIBLE difference between VHS anime and DVD anime quality wise I REALLY wouldn't give a rat's ass -_-
And THAT brings me to my next rant!! I'm a-rollin' in anime!! ;p I got a few big deliverys over this week-
Beyond the Clouds/Clowns (Place promised.... yadda yadda yadda)- I seen it already!.... only I had this idea for a Beyond the Clowns AMV for YEARS
Rahxephon- seen it like 3 times plus the ovas and movie like twice each even though their all like the SAME storyline... I don't know why, impulse buy ;p
Angelic Layer- it starts with Angel so it MIGHT be usefull ;p 'sides I'd not seen this one and it was cheap ;p
ADV's Macross- I am just a hopeless Macross fanboy -_- I got the whole Robotech saga (all 3, not just Macross), Animeigo's old hard-subbed Macross, and now I'd dished out another 100 bucks for the new dub ;p. Watch it immediately go down to 3 bucks a box just like the Robotech DVDs did... (I put down close to 300 for the set of 12 boxes! 10x more!)
Not only that but I still have Chobits and Outlaw Star to go through from a previous order with Ai Yori Aioshi (both series') coming any day now. I seen all those though. Just gonna use them for amvs.
God! I waste alot of money on AMVs...

yeah, so that's what I had. my HD-DVD drive is the Toshiba external (slow as hell). I simply plugged that in and ran a test. Nothing passed HDCP certification -_-. OK the proc, RAM and so on was STONG enough, but the video card, driver and so on wasn't. So yeah, I knew that in order to fake some things out or use hdcp on some older cards you could simply use the analog (vga) connection rather than the dvi ;p. Yeah, that worked for me, but my video card still wasn't certified. I think you need a Shader Model (SM) 3.0 card for it to work, and the x800 only goes up to 2.0... Bah, well I quickly looked for the cheapest solution (and remember I can use both connections, agp and pcix) and picked up a new x1550 card from a local shop! Good deal ;p. ... only... I did a quick 3dmark on the x800 I took out along with one on the 1550 useing the SAME drivers and the NEW 1550 was 3x SLOWER than my 2 year old x800! What's even worse was the x800 replaced a 9600 pro and it didn't really improve on any of the benchmarks... just added features! Once again, ATI underwhelms me! BOY am I glad I'm not a gamer o.0
well anyway puttin' this videocard in, hooking it up via the analog connection, gets pretty much everything certified!! ... just, unfortunately, the videocard didn't pass, simply because it's not OLD enough!! Blasphemy!
So I was just a bit stuck... since I wasn't willing to spend the premium of buying something pre-certified from a local shop. So I searched the internet. And guess what?? I didn't have to do ANY of all that! Apparently there's a program that strips the CSS protection so anybody with the proc can play the HD discs. I used AnyDVD. Apparently with this little thing I didn't even need to jump through all the loops and holes I jumped through. Grrrrrreat.
Well watching my first HD-DVD was fun (if not unspectacular...). BUT it's the gettin' there that was the WHOLE barrel of monkeys!!
Yeah, so this video card is goin' RIGHT back later on today. Why keep it around?? it's a little better (more features such as AVIVO), but still, a little bit worse all the same o.0 I'd rather get the whole caboodle in one pass. It IS quite sad that a $70 card from 2007 can't compete (in raw frame rates) with a $100 card from all the way back in 2002!! But that's ATI for you. - Geek my ride!! 2007-04-30 23:30:47 NOOOOO! I am THAT close to getting this stupid HD-DVD thing working! I certified everything, the HD-Drive, of coarse, I even got my ancient 2 year old lcd to pass (I use the analog...) BUT STILL!! My friggen graphics card is not passing spec!! WHY!!! I mean it's a decently up to date ATI x800AIW card, with the LATEST catalyst drivers. WHY is it not passing?? It has all the hardware reqs DAMNIT!!

It's so hard to be away from the internet for so long... I mean I missed SO many posts in just the last 24 hours!! I feel like I been gone a whole week!!
first of all... well it doesn't look like things are going too smoothly in Yaoi/ Chris world. Keep you guys in my prayers/ thoughts ^_^. And Chris, maybe your problems are due to your diet. seriously o.0 lol. eat something >.<

K now we talk about me -_-. I FINALLY gots my computer upgrades -YAY!!- but thing is I don't know how to install them lol. Exactly. Well, that's not the problem. I'm a gude lerner ;p. The thing is, and happens EVERY time I upgrade my computer (even though this time I only bought a bunch of new peripherals... no internal hardware, I'm just INCREDIBLY stubborn about these things), I like to document EVERY SINGLE step! See in this case I bought an HD DVD drive/ DVD burner to replace my ole busted up DVD drive/ CD burner (no it didn't even burn DVDs!!) but before I DO, I feel I haveta' fix my old drive, or at least give it a good try... HOW STUPID!! I mean, I should just toss it out ^_^.... but... something.... won't let me! Stubbornness.
Also received my router to fix my internet problems -_- yay me ;p.... only THAT'S the thing I don't know how to install. Stupid WEP Key...
Also got a bluetooth headset for Skype (now I can dance while talking ;p- wireless) and... I guess... my Cel that nobody calls >.< but yyyeah.
Also! Also I got another headset!! Why?? Dunno... impulsive ;p lol I was CURIOUS how well earbuds would work on skype ;p be hella' lot more comfortable. So NOW! just in case my old headset (wich is fine...) breaks... along with this new bluetooth thinger (with usb key) THAN I still got another one ;p. No 'no mic' excuses for me! -ahem- *Kiki.... and a bunch of other people... not just KIKI! I just like picking on her...*
OK I also got a bunch of DVDs and junk on it's way... I'm dangerous with a credit card *.*
Oh! lol school was cut short last night so I couldn't post yesrterday. Yeah, we had a bomb threat too :o.... must be a west coast thing... I got to miss my Chemistry test (and half of our lab ;p) though!! -

Do you people realize this is the internet?? lol...
well most people know my schedule by now anyway... pretty much non-stop school to start the week, no school after Wednesday (Tuesday if I'm feeling snarkey ^_^) but a TON of homework. Yes, Kariudo, it does suck... You don't have to tell me again *sigh* you'd think only going to school 2 or 3 days a week wouldn't stress you out!

But Doki for most helpfull?? I mean c'mon!! this is 2006! While he deserved to be nominated, most of his helpfullness came from 2007! NOT 2006 people!
Silver_Moon for most improved?? that right there is a joke... I'm glad she got creator of the year though.
BUT things will never change (and neither will my annual bitchings), you'd think I'd realize this after being here well before the first vcas. They just get worse and worse every year. I already know, Nostromo for best creator next year and JCD for most improved....
