A slight refresh
2014-01-02 06:22:02
Greetings AMVers.
The past few years have not been instrumental to my continuation of making music videos. I'm a working man in Japan at this point, and thought I'd check in with my old videos.
All of the links were broken, so I have re-uploaded them from my personal archive. None of my completed videos were technically that advanced, or story telling of any significant degree, but they were a learning experience, and a fun one at that.
I hope you enjoy them!

Life in Japan
2007-05-17 23:23:28
So, I've graduated from College, moved to Japan, and have been working as a programmer for a year and a half. I have a wife of about 1 and 1/4 years (met her while I was still a student) and am starting, just now, to get out, and go to places like Roppongi Hills. (though thankfully, i wasn't in the elevator when the cable snapped recently)
Some strange news... apparently a high schooler walked into a police station with a bag in hand... opened it to show the police the head of his mother. He killed her in the middle of the night while she was asleep. His words were rather creepy, and very non-sensical, so I won't repeat them here, but go find the story if you're interested.

Ahh, the oppressively painful homework.

Ok, first off, the title is a reference to how I originally learned the adjective "Kuroshii." Right now, I have three papers to write, two presentations due, and a final revision due on monday. Additionally, I only have two weeks of classes left, and one week of finals, so it's crunch time right now. When the summer starts, I'm moving my stuff around the apartment, including my computer, DVD player, etc, so my recording ability will probably be offline for a little while.
On a positive note, my new computer is lightning quick to encode video from DVD now, so I'll be ripping the m2v files directly off the disc instead of going through my DV camera. This should lead to even higher quality video sources, so I'm really quite excited. (Though this will no doubt increase my compile time for videos, as m2vs ARE NOT the same size I render to.)
I've also finally seen DVDs 1-3 of Kareshi kanojou, and highly recommend the series to anyone. I've never seen people so angry in my life before, except perhaps myself for 5 minutes of it... at least I didn't blow up a resteraunt...

I'm BAACK... kindof...

That car from my last posting is a reality... I'm the proud owner of a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon, with a very slightly tweaked engine. (the turbo system is very lightly modified) It gets 21 MPG on average, and puts out stock about 227 HP, and the modified version wouldn't put out much more than that, but reaches the max HP much faster, and so while it really doesn't have any more HP, it uses it more efficiently. (and hence eats gas like no tomorrow)
In any event, I've beel feeling really down, and basically retracted myself into a little ball, and haven't been contacting the outside world. I decided about a week ago that I've had enough of that, and it's time to busy myself with productive things... like AMVs that I've been trying to finish for the past two years. (sigh)
I appreciate the critical reviews of my Ranma video incidently, just please realize (before giving me a 1 for effort, because that's just harsh) that I've only made two videos, and both appear on this site. (One of them has ZERO REVIEWS!) The third is in progress. I not only have a distinct lack of experience making videos, but didn't really tend to script my videos up until I started working on the Tenchi video.
I will give away one spoiler on the Tenchi video for anyone who's interested... think of Tenchi as a playboy... <ROFLMAO> Ok, yea I know it's not that funny, but it's the basic premise of the Tenchi video, now I just need the clips to support it.
I also have a fourth video in the works that's technically very sophisticated, I'm just not sure how I want to make it yet, as writing my own video overlay program is looking pretty attractive at the moment to give you some idea of how complex the dumb thing is. A friend of mine summarized my early attempts at the fourth video concept as "DDR on crack and LSD with some acid tabs thrown in for good measure." Yes, you can actually dance to it, (or rather that's the PLAN) but I don't think anyone would want to try. The background is a full AMV by itself, though I'm not really sure which series, but I'm thinking 3x3 eyes. More details fourthcoming... I'm going to finish "i think we're alone Tenchi" first.

Ok, it's been WAY TOO LONG since I last posted

The Tenchi video basically isn't coming along... I need to get back to working on it.
On the bright side, I may have a new car in relatively short order. Need to work out my finances first, but that will be REALLY cool if it happens. More to come, will probably post a tenchi test clip in a week or so.
