JOURNAL: JSnape (John Snape)

  • Been busy 2003-02-12 08:47:15 Been doing this, that and the other lately. I was able to reëdit my Celine Dion video here and there. Also, my Kid Rock video is exactly how I imagined it should be the first time I did it.

I have to go buy Driver 2 and Parasite Eve again, so I can reëdit those videos.

No hosting for my videos, no way to get them out to the world. Maybe it's best just to keep them to myself. I've had bad experiences when I released my videos previously.

Still waiting for the review from Shonen on my Kid Rock video. I think he forgot about it.

I did a remix of "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zepplin with Faith Hill's "Breathe" that turned out sounding rather nicely. I have some video from "The Dirty Pair" that should go well with the song. Yes, I have started to buy some DVD anime videos to use instead of Playstation game video.

  • Re-doing my Kid Rock video-Finally! 2002-11-14 11:27:50 I have been working on my Kid Rock video for the last week or so. I re-ripped all the videos from the game, using Intel Indeo 5.04 codec, at x2 size. I did a test mpeg1 of the video and it looks really good. I am only halfway through the video.

I have been able to make the timing and other changes I wanted to do the first time in this version. There were some minor changes I wanted to do in the first half, mostly timing scenes to lyrics. I am able to accurately edit the frames much better with a faster computer and bigger hard drive.

The re-ripped videos now take up about 4GB of space on the drive, which would have been half of my previous drive.

When I'm done editing, I'll encode it in SVCD format and VCD format, then I'll start work on the other videos, probably my Notorious B.I.G. video next. It is currently at 6:57, but with the additions I wanted to make in the first one, it will likely end up at 9 minutes or so. I should also be able to fix the lip-syncing problems from the first version.
  • Yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy! 2002-10-08 19:21:39 I finally upgraded my computer. I bought a new motherboard, a 1.1 GHz Duron and 512MBs of RAM. I went to convert a video from avi to vcd format, and when it would have taken 6-8 hours previously, it took only 9 minutes. It is simply amazing how fast it converted.

Next is a new HD. I saw one for $109; an 80GB HD, and could basically store all of the CDs I have recorded.

Hopefully, soon I can get that drive. :-)
  • Video Trilogy 2002-08-12 16:19:20 Well, I finished the video that comes after my Kid Rock video. As I was editing this one, I realized if I make a video to go before the Kid Rock video, and use it for setup for Only God Knows Why, I would have a trilogy of videos, making one long continuous story.

The video I just finished was to the song What I Need by Julie Reeves, using the FF8 video, just as my Kid Rock video used. Before I make the next video, I'm going to redo the Kid Rock video, using some suggestions from others, and some specific things I've wanted to change all along. I was going to wait until Weng-Cheong Fung reviewed it, but that was promised months ago. He did help me with many really good ideas for my Alanis Morissette video! Thank you again, by the way!

Of course, when I upgrade my computer (shouldn't be too long now) I am going to redo them all in mpeg2; all of them are curently in mpeg1. Just to see the quality of ripping at x2 with the Huffman codec, I used Psx-Multiconvert and grabbed the scene from FF9 when the ship is flying into the city (I think the most detailed scene in the game) and it looked fantastic! Of course, the file ended up huge, but the upgrade will make it seem like a pittance.

Now I need to figure out the song for the first video in the trilogy. I need to watch the cut scenes several times over again, until something "clicks," and I can get a good fit like the other two videos.

    Take care, all.
  • I am very happy today! 2002-04-08 19:26:11 I just read and replied to shonnen's review of my Alanis video. Damn, that guy's good! I wish I had the skill to be able to give people reviews like that!

Also, I am almost finished with a Visual Basic program for the corner liquor store. He wanted a program to keep track of his check cashing, and also include picture identification as part of it. Databases were mystical before I started working on this program, but after reading many books on ODBC and SQL I finally "get" it. I only have three routines to go: the username and password routine, the input new check routine, and the print routine. I should get them done tonight (hopefully!). I could really use the money right now.

As to the professor I was going to work for, the whole thing went bust. Oh, well.

When I could run my server, I had about 200 video downloads. The breakdown goes as follows:

Celine Dion - 62 (actually did this one for someone else)
Kid Rock - 57 (my personal favorite)
Alanis Morissette - 49 (my first video)
No Doubt - 30 (majorly screwed up the subtitles)
Notorious BIG - 3 (almost 7 minutes long!)
Garbage - 3 (not even on my video page here!)

That's quite a few gigabytes of data, I'm lucky I didn't have my internet connection shut off!

    Take care, all.
