JOURNAL: FirestormXIII (Robert X. Hill-Williams)

  • Almost to 900, help a guy out, will ya? 2002-09-10 12:57:28 Yes, I'm at 872 hits. Please, heeeeelp meeeee!
    Anywho...

I started preparing for my newest AMV (ripping movie, ripping song, turn into WAV, etc.) and I came to the conclusion rather quickly that I need a new HD.
Actually I'd known for a while that I need one. But as of today it became a necessity. I can't even do most of the projects I have in mind with just the space I have now. I honestly am in need of a new laptop period, but I know that's not gonna happen for a while. Right now I'm editing off of a 9gig HD. I had to burn all my downloaded music to discs and then delete the folders they were in so I could have enough space to start my project and have enough room to (maybe) have the ability to export the final HuffyYUV master of the vidoe when it's done. I would already be out looking for a HD, but I have *no* money.
I need a job, one that pays decent too, cause I certainly can't work that many hours now that I'm back in college again. Oh well, I'll do what I have to, and I'll get the video done...somehow.

But for now, I'm off to Biology. Joy. *Note: Sarcasm*

    Later everyone.
  • :O 2002-09-09 10:20:50 LOL @ MJ's journal entry

The Cowboys are done MJ, the dynasty is over. *Pats shoulder* Just let it go... :P
  • It's official! 2002-09-07 23:25:20 I've finished my video!

    ...And it sucks...

Granted, most of the video is pretty good, and I'm happy with it. But the ending just flat-out blows (capital B, capital L, you get the drift). I don't know what the reason is, but I'm guessing it's either:

    A) I'd spent so long away from the video because of laziness and Premiere issues that when I finally went back to it my idea flow was messed up and it showed in the ending.
    or
    B) I ran out of inspiration/ideas.

At this point I'm thinking it's B, even if A had something to do with it. That sucks, because it means my idea just died out at the end, and I've never had that happen before. I guess that's what happens when you do a project that you don't really want to do, but do anyway for the sake of making a video. I'm not complaining (much) because I did learn a lot, and discovered more techniques and such, and I was excited about doing the video. The keyword is 'was' however, because coming up on the end of the project I'd realized that I've forced myself to finish the video. (I've thought multiple times about just scrapping the porject and moving on. In fact I thought about doing it just yesterday when I was trying to put together the last 5-10 seconds of the video)

But for all my complaining today it's not as bad as it was yesterday. As of yesterday I had flat-out decided that I was never going to release this video to the general public. As of now I'm still on the fence about it, but I'll probably decide to release it (especially since I went to the trouble of encoding it).

The way I figure it, I may as well release it because I need criticism on it to get better as a creator. I really hope people don't give me any rosy reviews of this video, becuase I'd much rather have someone tear it apart and show me everything I could have done better. I've never cared about my score so long as I get an honest & constructively critical review (that's not just mindless bashing or mindless delight) of my videos. I care even less so now, because I really, really want someone to take my video apart.
    Oh well, I can hope.

I may have the video up as early as tonight, depending on when WinRAR finishes splitting my master up so I can put it on disc (*just as he's writing this Rob looks to see what WinRAR's progress is, only to see that WinRAR has made about 20 1.38MB volumes so far of his master video copy. At this point Rob is over being annoyed for the day so he just shakes his head, cancels the WinRAR operation, and deletes the many, many files that have already been made*)
Scratch what I was just saying, I'll be attempting to put my video online tonight. I'll figure out how to make WinRAR make 700MB volumes tomorrow. Meh.

In other AMV news: After completing this semi-failure of a video I'm going to be moving on to a project that I actually want to do and have had in my head for a while now. It's going to be a romantic VHD:Bloodlust video. I haven't seen any in that vein yet (haha, I said vein. It works on two levels...meh.), and the song and artist I'm going to use haven't been done here before either. This video should run a lot smoother as well, considering the concept is a bit more simple than that of my newly finished video (which is titled 'So Far From the Sun', for anyone that's interested). I may even be able to get this latest project done before SpPanda's contest deadline. Otherwise, as an absolute last resort I'll submit 'So Far...' and get ousted.

In other regular news: Today was job hunt day, and to date I have or am going to put in applications at the following places: Sam Ash Music Store, CVS, Music & Arts Center, Gamestop, and possibly Rite Aid or Home Depot. I fi don't get a bite from any of those places then I'm screwed, because I am b-r-o-k-e, except for the little money I have in my checking account.

Also put my car into the shop Friday to get new brake pads and an oil change. Found out my front two brake rotors were worn down, so I had to get them replaced, and my bill jumped to 400 dollars. Fortunately my grandmother had said she would take care of the bill, and she did. I owe her for that big time though, because I wouldn't have been able to shoulder the bill with just the money I have now.
It amazes me that some people only have to worry about getting gas regularly, an oil change every month or so, and new tires before the winter season hits. My car has already burnt up $1,000+ and I still have to get new tires soon, which is going to run me $300 (Thank god the tires aren't that expensive). And then I still have to worry about gas (which I burn up quite quickly now thanks to running around to different locations for my classes this semester. Yet another reason to live on campus rather than commute when I transfer to Rutgers for the Spring.

    Well, that's about it.
To any unfortunate person that actually read all that: Here's a bullet, a gun, and my apologies.

Later all, time to hit the chat. :O
  • "Oh the tears of happiness, they are streaming down my face!!!" 2002-09-01 15:57:28 AD rawks. He is the man. He is...damn, I'm out of adjectives to describe how cool he is. But he does rule quite thoroughly, because today he caught me online and gave me a beta copy of v1.1 of the AVIsynth fix.

And hooray, the problem I was having with Premiere...
*snaps finger* fixed. Premiere now recognizes AVS files and lets me import them, so now I can get back to finishing my project. I'm going to try and finish it up between today and tomorrow, it's just been on hiatus since the problem popped up. Now that it's out of the way I can get back to work.

I just have to say again how cool a guy AD is. Not only did he give me the beta of the fix, but he cared enough to contact me online and walk through what was going on in order to find out what the problem was. Someone deserves a gold star today... ;)

Well that's my good news of the day. ^_^
    Later everyone.
  • Please sir, can I have s'more...? 2002-08-28 10:33:21 Alright, alright, I need one more hit to have 800 on my journal. Could somebody oblige me?

In other news Premiere is acting like a complete and total bitch-slut. Up until now I haven't had any errors with it but, after installing the AVIsynth plugin that AD worked on, suddenly Premiere wants to take a crap on my computer every time I start it up. I think I fixed the problem by manually putting the plugin in Premiere, but I have yet to open it and see if it worked. I'm just not in the mood for being annoyed if it doesn't, since today is my first day of classes and I'm sure that'll be enough to annoy me for one day.

In other other news The SoulTaker is quite good. I finished watching the third episode about an hour ago (which finished off the first volume for me) and I've been impressed with the whole thing so far. I like the style of it, which is quite dark, but never loses it own strange brand of humor. I only had one problem with it (I got over it though) and that was the fact that the main character's dub VA is apprently the same VA that did Quatre in Gundam Wing. I personally don't like Quatre much, mostly because of all the fangirls who think Quatre is god and will rip your heart out if say different. So his voice did annoy me at first, but only for that reason.
So up til now I've watched all the anime I have, except for the last three discsof Getter Robo. I don't know when I'll watch those though, becuase I really don't want to compound anything that may go wrong on my first day of classes with a headache.

    Well, that's about it.

    Later everyone.
