JOURNAL: Bowler

  • Oh the Pain...the Pain... (Lost in Space impression, not actual despair) 2001-12-13 19:02:39 Figured out why my forearm is hurting me so much, and why I lose feeling in my right hand every weekend. Ready for this one?

    Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Wheeee! First I knock a chunck loose from the inside of my eye, blocking my vision and causing migraine headaches, and now this.

Oh well, at least the symptoms are preventable so long as work here supplies me with the proper wrist wrests. Soon.

So any rate, I'm at work and don't have much time to post. Work Christmas party tonight. No booze. (This word must always be followed by a Homer sing-songy impression saying "B.O.O.Z. Booze!") Again I say wheee. But I'm off of work tomorrow, so I'll be able to get some X-mas shopping done, and that Harry Potter pic should get finished (have to install photoshop and painter first). I'm not 100% thrilled with it, but I think I can fix what I need to digitally in Photoshop before I paint it up. I might even FINALLY revamp my website this weekend and make it publicly known.

Because it's a travesty of collegiate work right now.

Oh, and LOL at your Tetsuo on the Park Bench story, EK. I mean seriously, out loud.

  • The Snitch... 2001-12-12 01:33:49 is worth 150 points, and so is this drawing. I love cranking out a worthy piece of art in under 2 hours. The final blue-line is done. All that's left is to scan it and (hopefully somehow possibly) paint it. Oh, and upload it for all to see.

    Hopefully tomorrow night.

Still no takers on the gift thingie? It's gonna be gooooooood!
  • Should I be feelin' bad?/No/Should I be feelin' good?/No/Look into these eyes... 2001-12-11 22:55:00 I can't believe it, but I actually like a Limp Bizcut song. What the hell happened to the world? I bought the remix album because my oldest friend in the whole world (something like 17 years we've known each other now) urged me to. He said there's a few tracks on there that are right up my alley.

Now, I've been one of those secret "in the closet" Bizcut fans for some time now. It's hard to be 30 and like music these days. I can recognize the inherant "ass kickingness" of Bizcut songs (and while we're at it, allow me to log my distaste with the spelling of the name here), but I refused to enjoy them because of their image. I still refuse. But the remix of "Nookie" on this remix album (Track 11) rocks my Casbah.

So I'm still in a funk about this useless heap of plastic and metal that computes very fast. I've decided to do more gift art to suppress the pain. I've found that I don't draw unless it's for a higher purpose, and I have very little incentive to draw on my own (this is what happens when you expect to get paid every time you pick up a pencil). So I've found that I can get excited about doing art that gets given away. From here on out, it's all gift art, baby!

So who wants some Harry Potter gifties? 'Cause that's what I'm drawing next. Then it's back to finishing my 4 part Bebop gift bonanza.

Then I need to figure out a way to *ahem* get that tablet running in XP, which I've resgined myself to purchasing. You hear me tablet? I'm coming for you...
  • Guns guns and more guns 2001-12-11 13:05:29 EK: Don't know if you're reading this, but I went looking for your gun (Ruger p98 I believe?) you were looking for, and found this:

    http://www.ruger-firearms.com/pistolscf.html

I didn't see any called the p98, but there is a P94 and a p95. They have close-ups of each for the side-view, and there's not much difference between the two, so I don't think the p98 looks much different. Not a very tight detail, though.

Actually, now that I think of it...is the p98 a real gun? Or was it one that they "invented" for the series since it's set in the future? :)
  • Bring in Da Funk. 2001-12-11 00:42:23 I am *SO* depressed right now. I hate hate hate hate HATE HATE <B>HATE</B> "dump" journal entries, but I can't take it anymore.

This $800 hunk of metal I scratch-built on my desk is honestly no better than my P133 I was running a month and a half ago. Let me tell you something: Nothing feels better than paying out all of that dough, building it yourself, only to realize that your tiny little pagan god of a computer is worthless for the two things you bought it for:

    1). Blazingly fast online games.
    2). Faster Painter/Tablet art.

Thankfully, I used a "pirate" version of Windows XP. I was told it was a "site release" from Microsoft that they give out to their own employees so they don't have to go purchase the software. What a load of crap. First off, I don't like my OS to crash to reboot every time I type the letter "p" in an email, or use the scroll key on my mouse, or whatever else the random crap crashes have used as an excuse to bomb on me. Secondly, I don't like it when my OS tries to shut me down; politely letting me know that I'm going to be locked out of my machine in about 3 days. I'm sure you'll miss these lovely rants while I'm out forking over another freaking hundred Washingtons to Gates.

I can understand why nobody in my area wants to support broadband here. Sure, I live in a starter home. Sure, the people in this neighborhood probably struggle to pay their bills on time every month. But for the love of *GOD* they've got DSL 1/4 mile up the road! I can throw a rock and hit it! Can't I just tap into theirs a little bit? Maybe run a can with some string over to my friend's house? Surely that's faster than my $11 56.6 modem that craps out every time I install software on this machine. And here's the kicker: I'd be paying LESS money every month for $90/month IDSL than I do now for the a). Extra phone line ($60), and b). Two dial-up accounts ($40). Faster, AND cheaper. Hopefully, I'll get another 5 pamphlets in the mail this month urging me to go broadband. "Hey! We'd just like to get your hopes up again! We *know* broadband isn't available in your area, but we just thought you'd like to see how the rich people live! Go ahead and use our online search engines *again* this month! You still can't have this! HahhahhAHAHAHAaaaa!!!"

But the tablet thing just kills me. It SLAYS me. I've been dying to finish up some Bebop fanart that I've been putting off. Line drawings are done. It's scanned. I. Just. Want. To. Use. My. TABLET! I can't even hit any Oekaki boards. I've been dying to hit some "local" boards that load fast, and EK's new rental board is just the place. I can go straight to the Oekaki board without sifting through 8 pages of Japanese guesswork like at Jazz Sessions (I can't read Japanese an ounce, and it doesn't help that I don't have the language pack installed, either). I. Just. Want. To. Draw!

This is what happens when Steve is all work and no fun. I turn into a bitter little prick/pill.

Phone rings. Friend Tim wants to play games online. I go throw head at wall again.

    Later.
