Been There. Run That.

MCWagner: Shadowrun (as far as I know) doesn't use a D20 system. It's the only RPG that I've been playing consistantly for the past 10 years or so, and it's always been a D6 system. If you have a Pistol skill of 6, you roll 6D6 with a target number of (say) 4. If you rolled 1,2,3,4,5,6 on all the dice, you'd have 3 successes (4,5, and 6, and technically you'd re-roll the 6 and add the value you rolled to the 6 [this is how you achieve target numbers higher than 6], but you don't need to in this case).
Then the other guy you shot rolls to counter your successes, and so on. Fasa went out of business last year, and I've heard have been bought by another company who is *butchering* the Battletech system. And I do mean butchering. So now I'm wondering if they *are* in fact going to rewrite Shadowrun as a D20 system (which would be completely pointless as the D6 system they use is one of the easiest and best I've seen in a long time).

Just me and my horsie and a quart of beer.

EK: Thanks for the sentiments . I was actually hoping to vent without you catching it (which is why I was trying to stay vague about it). I totally understand what you're talking about though, and since my last post I've been hoping it could all be chalked up to netiquette (or whatever the term is for the "omigod I totally didn't mean it that way!" online phenomenon. The very weird thing about that person is that while I can't for the life of me find seem to find something in common with them, I have respected the vast majority of their views in the past. Very intelligent, well articulated person. There was a point where I abhorred/hated them, then later thought I came to an understanding and thought to myself I'd really like to get to know this person and be friends with them. This latest instance just caused a temporary setback/flashback, I think, and I just needed to write about it here to get it off my chest and out of my head so I could work, I think :)
At any rate, I'm much better now that I've got the DVD drive to bring home 8D. Now I just need to find the time to use the durn thang.
Ummmm, a fun experiment for anyone who might enjoy Bebop and Beasties as much as I do:
Listen to the track Paul Revere (off of Liscence to Ill), and imagine that Ed is Ad Rock, Spike is Mike D, and Jet is MCA. Ad Rock's horsie would be Ein. Of course, the "two girlies" that Ad Rock (Ed) grabs at the end of the song with his quart of beer would be Faye and Julia. Enjoy.
I'd love to do a video of it, but I don't think I could finish it even with a year's worth of work, but I may apply the voice=character thing to the "She's Crafty" vid I've got in the back of my head.

Who's bi-polar? Not me. Or maybe it's me.

Don't read this.

Why in the hell is it that some people just can't get along with others? Trying to make this as non-specific as possible, I tried having a nice discussion about a topic with someone today, and they crap all over what I had to say. I tried to keep it intellectual and academic, and bring up some valid counter-arguments, and all the other person had to say about it was pure crap. I'd say it was borderline insulting, but the way I'm feeling, it was probably closer to an emotionally laden all-out attack. I'd have preferred it if he said "I think you're really a freaking moron."
And I can't say anything back about it, because I refuse to sink to that low a level. I mean come on. I don't care if you put three dashes after the letter "f." If you say the word "fuck" 4 times in the same sentance, you've just dashed your own argument on the rocks as far as I'm concerned.
Jesus H. Christ. That's the last time I ever have *anything* contrary to say on that board. Ever. Keep in mind that I'll probably forget I said this and post something contrary again in a few days. ::sigh::
At any rate, good AMV news in that I might be getting a CDR for my home work machine, and this company typically only hands out DVD/CDRs, which means I can start ripping footage...just as soon as I crawl out of this "work on the game every waking moment for the next three weeks" rock.

Horeshoes, Handgrenades, and Thermoglobalnuclear Warfare.

Haven't had a lot to say in the past few days, and I'm not sure why. I'm still trying to wrangle my computer into shape, and I'm really nervous about downgrading from XP to 98. I'm afraid I'm going to lose all of my email contacts and such. Bad news.
But I've just *got* to get that tablet up and running. I'm dying here looking at everyone else's artwork online, and I've got nothing to show for myself lately because that FREAKING XP suxors etc. I want to redesign my webspace, put personal art up there (tried pulling some old stuff off of the old drive and then it croaked on me, so it's lost forever now), and design a logo for art sigs, but JEEZ I just need that stupid tablet to work.
I ran out this weekend (which is quite a feat as I'm home sick as a dog) and exchanged my extra Bebop Session 3 DVD for a Session 5. Kudos to Suncoast for having such friendly clerks. Didn't even want a receipt. Nice guy. Learned that the DVD that's coming out January 25th is the Nippon only Region 2 DVD, so I couldn't watch it if I wanted to. Doh! I have to wait untill some company here picks up the rights, I guess. So much for seeing it before hearing any spoilers. I wouldn't even mind watching it in Japanese with no subs just so I could see it. Hell, back when I started watching anime that was the only way you could get it, for the most part.
So I got to watch Pierrot Le Fou again. I don't know why, but I just *love* that ep to pieces. Maybe it's the way his psycho background is laid out for us to see, or Ed ed's double speak speak. But man, that ending sequence is just creepy/haunting. I showed it to some friends of ours a few months ago (when I had borrowed the complete set from a friend, for those of you keeping track) just to show off how adult CB can be, and they were impressed. They were only familiar with the "old school" level of anime. Speed Racer, Akira, Gigantor, etc. They had no idea what the new technical achievement era had going for it. I think they said they had nightmares for a few nights or something. Maybe.
Even Cowboy Funk is cool in its own goofy way. Is it just me, or is the character design for Andy *identical* to Spike's? Because they are. I think Andy's hair is toned down in mass just a bit from Spikes, but other than clothes, hair, and color key choices, they're like a perfect match.
Blah. Have to run. Shadowrun game at 5pm calling. Hasta.
