Finally got the website project up and running. It was one of the reasons I stayed home from work this week. I wanted to put some of my creative work up on the web. Plus, I've been so burnt out creatively and such that I can't concentrate on work. Everytime I do an animation of a basketball player dribbling for the 90th time, I keep thinking about all of the other things/games I'd rather be doing/playing. So, after working the entire month of February, I took a week off to spend at home. And work. On my website. Which is here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~monolithgrp
There's some anime-ish art I've done up on it, and I promise to do a lot more soon. Hopefully tomorrow.
There's some broken-ish stuff on it, so please bear with me while I learn how to do html (again). I suck at it. I'm glad I don't have to put a roof over my head with it.
I've officially given up on making a traditional AMV. It just felt too much like work. That, and I can't find a freaking copy of MPEG2DEC.DLL to save my life. The link from Ermac's guide is broken and I've looked just about everywhere else online. It seems no one is hosting that particular file anymore.
So I've decided that maybe by the end of this week I can start concentrating on finishing my Sin City animated piece. It won't be done for Acen, but that's cool, because as cool as it's going to be, I doubt a bunch of kids who showed up to see the latest DBZ vid are going to like a non-anime MV, no matter how much work/style went into it.
It sucks because there aren't any "animation conventions," and Anime fans are so...so...stuck up about anime sometimes. I always assume everyone who's into anime is like myself, and still loves *all* traditional animation (hence today's title), but I know that's not the case. So I may or may not debut it at next year's Acen.
I'm even debating if it's worth keeping this journal open anymore, since it seems that my previous employer Startoons Int. is going to fold soon, so that means that even my previously animated MV, "M7" will lose hosting. Then what? I don't know when the next time I'm going to do an anime-ish animated vid will be. These things take MONTHS just to do a short 30 second/1 minute piece. And I don't have the resources to do BG paintings. Maybe I can figure something out.
C'est la vie.

OMIGOD! They've just re-released the G-Force (Battle of the Planets) eps on DVD! Argh! Must. Resist. Urge. To. Buy!
They even have the craptacular Hanna Barbara (or whoever did the U.S. sections) footage intact on them! And I guess as a bonus feature you can watch the original (uncut, I hope!) Japanese ep.
I'm *so* going out and buying some this week.

But I wanted to go to Tachi station and pick up some power converters!

EK: Couldn't you just enter your vids in the contest, and then not care if they win or not? Then you'd get the huge audiences at the cons watching your vids, and it won't matter if you win or not. That's what I'm planning on doing for Acen (should I get this one done in time). Who cares if it wins. I just want 3,000 people to see it :)
MCWagner: those drawing ideas (re: Chuck Jones send-offs) sound pretty good. If I have the inclination to do one, I might just try it later this week (if you don't mind, that is). Be forewarned, I'm a huge procrastinator, so if you don't see it in a week, know that I'm still thinking about it but just haven't gotten around to doing it. Feel free to send me an email and prod me about it.
Gah.
Learning Filmbox 3.2 today at work. This is "that" software that was used quite a bit in some Matrix shots for manipulating motion capture data. Only this is the new version. Evidently our French-Canadian friends who designed this decided that Filmbox 2.7 was way too easy to use, and felt that the wheel needed some re-inventing.
I was approaching Jedi Master levels of competence with 2.7, and now I'm back to Luke with the blast shield down. I'm evidently headed towards the dark side because I've given in to rage and anger more than once today. All French Canadians must die.
Ripped a couple more Bebop eps over the weekend. It appears after much fast-forwarding that I can use mostly eps 5 and 26 for the intro/Act one sequence, so that makes my job just that much easier, considering I only have about 7G worth of drive space to play around with right now. I think I'm going to go out and buy another 20G drive just for media storage this week/weekend.
On a side note, I have to say that it pains me greatly to ff through Bebop eps. It's just way too good of a show, and I'm constantly finding myself putting it back to regular speed so I can see that sequence just one more time. Only some sequences seem to last 24 minutes >_<
