New fan/gift art today

If anyone can tell me why my stupid little 100x100 pictures aren't loading in my gallery section, I'd really appreciate it. I've been copying and pasting link code for them all, and for whatever reason, the last two I did (Harry Potter and Showtime) aren't effing loading sometimes. I have no idea why.
Pees owt.

"Christ, Riker, I know it's the 24th century and all, but don't you think you could maybe go on a diet?!? They don't make these tunics any bigger, you know." --Picard to Riker at end of 3rd season ST:TNG

EK: Who said I was giving up on drawing?!? :) I doubt I could stop drawing if I tried. Sometimes I go on haiatus (sp?) for periods as long as a month or two, but I find that horse is very suitable for jumping back on. Finally updating my website has become my motivational cattle prod to myself to actually try and draw something new every week.
In the earlier post I was merely trying to express my rage and frustration at how close I had come to being the next big animation creator, only to be relegated to the walls of a noodle shop :) Also, the thousands of drawings that went into that piece (and the unfinished Cut to the Chase piece) are now in Whoknowswhereville. Normally I don't get that attached to my work. But those were my babies.
So now I just have to quitely go back to work on the Sin City animated piece, and hope to god that if/when I finish it, I don't get my balls sued off by FM. Sheah. Like he'd ever see it.
But enough of this discussion. :)
At any rate, I'm starting on the Faye "Showtime" piece tonight.

Like Climbing a Mountain. Underneath a Waterfall.

kyburg: Thanks for the kind words and inspiration. I'm always thrilled when I hear that someone is picking up their art again, especially after overcoming seemingly unbearable life burdens. I don't think I could ever hope to be as strong of a person as you are, and I commend you for it :)
[Edit: the following is not a rant, nor a statement or reflection about anyone else's life choices but the author's personal beliefs.]
But I have to politely yet vehemently disagree with you on one point: I refuse to be a "couldhavebeen." To me that's a cop out. It's far worse to be a "couldhavebeen" than a "never was" or a "has been."
The Neverwas looked up at the mountain with the waterfall running down it, and said to themselves "I don't need/want to climb that." And most everyone will respect them for their decision.
The Hasbeen looks up at the mountain with the waterfall running down it and says to themselves "I climbed that once. I probably couldn't do it again. After all, the waterfall has carved a different path over the years, but I was at the top once." And most people respect them for their accomplishments, no matter how outdated they may be today.
But the Couldhavebeen is a whiner. It's an excuse maker. It decided to try to climb the mountain, but when they got to the part where the waterfall came crashing down on their head they decided that maybe they're not cut out for this long haul, and hey, they "gave it a shot," right? Better to say to the Neverwas that they got farther, even though the Neverwas was content to stay where they were, and perhaps they feel like they can hang with the Hasbeen because they've "touched greatness" albeit for a brief moment. The truth is that both the Neverwas and the Hasbeens look down on the Couldhavebeen. At least they stuck to their decisions. The Neverwas and the Hasbeen show commitment. The Couldhavebeen gave up.
And I refuse to give up. I've been knocked down twice now, and I'll probably get knocked down a few more times. I'll climb this damn waterfall as many times as it takes untill I succeed and retire or untill I die in the act of climbing to the top (hopefully of old age). The current climb involves making videogames. We'll see how this approach turns out.
I'm determined to be a Hasbeen, thankyouverymuch :)

I am an Artist, not an Artiste.

First, the good news:
Went to the zoo Friday (see previous entry), and had a blast for 12 of the 16 hours I was at the LAN party on Saturday. Playing Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and CounterStrike (and even a bit of Crimson Skies) with 5 of your good friends and 70 other people you don't know is always a recipe for a good time. Well, maybe not the other 70. Especially when they smell really bad and are big enough to make you wonder why they're not speaking with a Scottish accent.
"Get! In! Mah! Bellay!"
I am *so* not kidding here.
Now the bad news:
The two giant mounted and framed posters I did for my M7 pitch (which I've wanted copies of since I made them) were sold by my former employer (and evidently one-time friend) to the noodle-house that bought the building that Startoons was in. I had just asked him a week ago if I could have them.
If anyone cares what they look like, look no further than here:

http://home.earthlink.net/~monolithgrp/m7two.jpg
So now, instead of my show capturing the rapt attention of millions of children, it's being casually glanced at by people eating cheap noodles in Homewood, IL. Homewood, not Hollywood.
Fuck.
FUCK.
As if that wasn't a big enough kick in the balls, they wanted "the artist" (read: me) to paint a mural in the restaurant. A FUCKING MURAL.
They purchased the posters for $100 total, so I'm sure they wouldn't be willing to pay more than $500 for the mural. Why am I even figuring out how much they'd pay?!?! It's a MURAL. Like I'd take a week off of work to go paint an eff'n mural.
It's just nice to know that something you spent the better part of a year on is now nothing more than a conversation piece (at best) over someone's lame dinner. From Tom Ruegger (Exec. Producer for Tiny Toons, Batman Adventures, and Animaniacs) calling me on the phone personally to tell me how much he loved it, to noodle house.
Again I say FUCK.
M7 is offically dead.

Finished that Harry Potter fan art I was talking about oh....4 months ago or something like that.
http://home.earthlink.net/~monolithgrp/thesnitch.jpg
Gonna do the Faye "Showtime" one I started about 6 months ago and never finished next. Then maybe "The Radical Edward Has You." one. It's all cleaned up and just waiting for some paint. And massive digital FX.
I hope to maybe start some prelim work on the Sin City anim next week. I've got some finished scenes (animated, anyway) from 3 years ago when I started it, but about half of those need to be thrown out. I need to record the song onto mini-disk or something digital that I can easily import into premier so I can read the track, too.
Oh well.
We went to the zoo today. Highlights: Baby dolphin (YAY!!!) and Baby 'rass (Giraffe). Other highlights: Boy howdy it's springtime! Watched two sea turtles desperately try and do the nasty. The female turtle was even swimming *under* the incompetant male turtle trying to help him get into position. I have a feeling that if there was another male in the tank with her, she wouldn't be looking for action with Retardo Montabon the Sea Turtle. Oh, and witnessed some hot penguin love. "Mommy, what are those penguins doing?" The cute/funny thing about it was, after they were done doing it in public, she waddled into her hole in the wall, and he waddled after her. Then he stopped and noticed something moving down in the rocks, and pulled a feather out of the rocks. He then hopped/waddled even faster after her into their hole in the wall. Like he was bringing her the feather! See? Coooooot.
