JOURNAL: Bowler

  • Getting There. 2002-11-19 13:20:53 I finally got the 80G drive installed this weekend, and moved my project over to it, and then proceeded to start filling it with more clips.

I've noticed that when I play the clips back in .avi viewers that I'm getting more interlace lines than I'd like. I think it's because I'm ripping the files in RGB instead of YUV (and using the HuffYUV compression). I'd rip in YUV if they'd bother showing up on my computer.

I hit the 45 second mark finally, but it's only the first pass. There's probably 100 cuts already in the first 45 seconds, and I have to add a ton of lip synch cut-outs. It's getting to the point where if I finish this 45 secs, it'll feel like a real accomplishment.
  • Technical Limitations. 2002-10-31 23:52:30 I nearly completely filled my wee 20G drive last night with clips. That HuffYUV compression sure doesn't compress much. I easily filled up about 6G worth of drive space in under an hour.

So, I'm going to bite the bullet and fork over the cash for a 100G drive this weekend. The only thing holding me back from finishing this monstrosity is drive space, so what the hell. Who needs money anyway?
  • More Power! 2002-10-28 14:07:24 Got the DVD/CD-RW installed in my newer machine this morning while I was waiting for the IDSL guy to finish installing.

I have to say, there's nothing cooler than having Bebop play in the background window while you're surfing. ::drools::

Hopefully, if I can nab some of that freeware ripping software off the net today, and get my copy of Premeire installed tonight, I can start ripping some footage.

Going to check out Ermac and Absolute Destiny's new guide to see if there's any new helpful info. The old guide is like a god-damned lexicon of useful information. Hopefully the new one will shed some more light on the technical aspects of video compression and ripping.
  • New Video, Hosed Machine. 2002-10-26 23:18:11 Just when MCWagner's perfectly insightful ramblings about GitS gave me the perfect idea for my next video attempt (because I'm giving up on the first one), I find out my editing machine is completely hosed.

    As in HOSED.

Won't even boot. Black screen. No RAM count-up. No IDE port recognition. NOTHING. Just a Dell logo.

Dude, I'm *so* not getting a Dell.

Now I have to take it into work and see if they can salvage it. If not, I have to go digging for all of the software I so preciously and carefully downloaded the first time. UGH.

What really bites, even if I don't ever use it, is that all of the source footage I ripped from my Bebop DVDs will also be lost. Double UGH.

And even though I don't much care for it anymore, the half-baked Bebop vid will also be lost. Triple UGH.

Along with my very legal and working copies of Maya, Filmbox, Max, etc etc etc. Fuckle UGH.
  • Give Me Some Love. 2002-09-05 17:01:34 I know, I know, it's been *forever* since I've checked in here.
That's because I've been keeping busy here:

There's even going to be a new drawing *EVERY DAY*. Just click on the SOTD link on the left. Please, go look at it, won't you?

Oh, and EK? I'm raging with jealousy re: the adobe email. The good natured, you-freaking-rock jealousy kind. DAMN. :)
