  • One hundred thirty sixth entry - feeling a bit ill 2006-05-01 16:18:56 Time - 2:52, Noise - Silent Hill 4 OST - "Cradel of Forest"

I don't get it. I still can't connect to IRC. I guess I should try un/reinstalling next, but this is getting really frustrating.

I also need to get off my ass and try to rip a DVD again. I started doing it once, but it didn't make much sense. Really, games are so much easier. I've had several successful attempts with those so far. But something weird is going on. I'll use Silent Hill 3 as an example, since it's the clearest cut of them all. The long and the short of it is that I can't rip any of the "in game" scenes. Basically, nothing where you could see her wearing a different costume. Irritatingly, this includes just about the entire game's worth of scenes. There are only seven scenes which do not fall under that category, and they're all useless to me, because three of them are credits, one is a joke scene, another is the opening, and the other two are incredibly short looped footage. So that begs the question: is there another way of ripping those scenes, or do I just have to suffer with low quality captured footage? I don't want to do that, but none of the guides on this site cover what to do in a situation like that. Hell, sto and trythil kept insisting that I could rip everything, so maybe they have a method. Unfortunately, I CAN'T GET INTO FUCKING IRC TO ASK THEM! Not that that's the reason I initially wanted in there anyway. I actually wanted to ask the ACEN people where I might find some of them hanging about, but I guess I'll manage to find some of them somehow.

On another note, I need to defrag my hard drive. And then I need to continue reading Memoirs of a Geisha - cuz it's a good book. I started reading it yesterday and I'm about one hundred pages in. Didn't really think I'd be up for reading a ~450 page book, but this is really interesting. I liked the movie a lot, too.

So, I'm off, presumably to rip a DVD. Except I probably won't do that. Or un/reinstall IRC like I said I would. But, such is life. *sigh*

  • One hundred thirty fifth entry - messed up 2006-04-30 23:34:58 Time - 10:27, Noise - some crap from We <3 Katamari... "Disco Prince" : /

...okay. Can I kill something? Not only am I STILL not able to connect to IRC, but my messenger decided to join the ranks of things that are fucked up on my computer.

Oh, I get it, computer. You think that me learning to rip games was too much success at one time. So now you have to screw up ten other things to make up for it. Very funny. Ha ha.

Well go ahead. Throw some other shit at me. Just TRY. >: (

  • One hundred thirty fourth entry - the good and the bad 2006-04-30 20:16:07 Time - 6:44, Noise - Switchfoot - "This is Your Life"

You know, it would figure. The one time I actually TRY to connect to #AMV in the past who-knows-how-many months and it tells me it's "unable to connect to the server." Fucking piece of shit.

Speaking of not connecting, neither of my methods for burning CDs recognize my new DVD drive. It's not like I can't use it. I mean, I've ripped games with it now, and it recognizes DVDs just fine, but for some reason, I can't burn anything because my programs tell me that there are no drives. I've read through the options/properties several times now, trying to fine a way to designate that drive as the one to read/burn to, but it doesn't seem like anything like that exists. Of course, the other drive on my compy is all but broken - it's the very reason I GOT the damn DVD drive! So, I don't want to use it if I don't have to. Not that it matters. After my brother installed the DVD drive, he didn't think to shut down and re-boot my computer. Well, he should have. Now, everytime I start up, I get a message saying that the "secondary drive could not be detected." Meaning, my old burnable drive. It's like it doesn't have any power running to it, because I can't even open the tray. Thus, I can't use either drive for burning. Fuck of a lot of good this does me.

You can imagine why I'm so frustrated.

In totally unrelated news, I saw Silent Hill over the weekend. I have to say, it was by far the best game-based movie I've seen as of yet. It more or less told the story of the first game, with some major and minor plot differences. As a whole, though, it was very similar. Even some of the characters were pulled straight from the first game. The monsters primarily seemed to be from the second game, and they were all very much "in character," if I can use that to describe a monster (although, with SH creatures, I think it's appropriate.) The environments were almost perfect; they fell somewhere between the visuals of the first and third games. Not quite as 'artistically' gruesome as SH3, but as deeply disturbing as that of SH1. However, the real kicker is this: ALL of the music came from the games themselves (SH2 mostly.) This makes me wonder if they plan to release a soundtrack or not, since there isn't anything original to be releasing technically. Maybe an "inspired by" soundtrack? Actually, they might anyway, since most of the pieces were done with real instruments for the movie, rather than with synthesized ones. All in all, it was a really well done movie as far as the details are concerned, and I do think most people can enjoy it (if they like horror or cult movies).

Anyway, I'll quiet down about that, since I don't want to reveal too much to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Or... in the words of SH1's Lisa, "I'll shut up now."

  • One hundred thirty fifth entry - uh, whatever... 2006-04-26 13:05:08 Time - 11:39, Noise - Shin Onimusha Dawn of Dreams OST - "Blue Oni Prologue ~ Blue Oni Theme"

Okay, so I requested a lock on a thread in the drop box because the creator was arguing with everyone, begging for opinions/comments, and just generally not listening. Everyone who was posting tried to explain, but then resorted to spamming the guy. Not more than an hour later, my request was deleted and the thread was ignored. So, of course, one more person spammed and then THEY WERE ALL OVER THAT SHIT, YO.

    Pure genius.

In other news...I have no other news. Well, I do have a band concert tonight. So wish me luck, even though I'm last chair and no one really cares about my part anyway. Oh, how my director would despair to hear me say that, with his "every part is important" attitude.

Anyway, I'm out of here, presumably to do absolutely nothing - like usual.

  • One hundred thirty fourth entry - ...WTF? XD 2006-04-24 23:44:23 Time - 9:55, Noise - Kingdom Hearts II OST - "Under the Sea"

OMC. "Under the Sea" in Japanese. For some reason, I just can't stop giggling. XD ...probably because "under the sea" is still in English. It's just... highly amusing.

So yeah. I beat Kingdom Hearts II last night, and did it again a little while ago for the sake of the credits. I always like to see who I recognize. The game itself is great, but it's not... quite what I expected. I knew it'd be more serious, but the story was nothing like I had thought. I also tried very, VERY hard to not know anything before I got the game. All I did was check a couple of scores after it came out to see if it had done okay. Well, it did.

It is shorter than I anticipated. KH2 is largely based around minigames, but since most of those don't nab you anything good, I avoided them. Instead, I got all three ultimate weapons for the three main characters, which put me at level 75 by the time I got all the necessary items. Then, I went to the end of the game. All that took me only forty hours. So, I can't imagine that completing everything in the game takes much above sixty hours. If memory serves, it took me about seventy to finish everything in the first game.

I miss my high jump. And my glide. And ESPECIALLY my superglide. Yeah. Those are things I wish they would have kept in this game. Well... I take that back. I SORT of have superglide, but it requires me to... do something first. Something that you don't want to do regularly in that game, lest you not have the ability when you actually NEED it.

Anywho, all in all, it's definitely worth the purchase if you've played the first game. If not, then a lot of the story will escape you. I mean, I didn't play Chain of Memories and I ended up not quite understanding some stuff. You can imagine how bad it would be if you missed the direct prequel.

Like I said, it's nothing like I expected, but it excelled in many surprising and pleasing ways.

Yup. That's my Kingdom Hearts II commentary. Seeing as how I'm positive I could ramble on for much, much longer on the topic, I'm going to stop myself ahead of time.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So... I got my DVD drive, I have successfully ripped a game, I have a song that I'm definitely planning on using with that game, and I have enough technical knowledge to clean up the footage and make a nice looking product. The only trouble yet is the editing program. I mean... this video... I *could* make it in WMM2 if I wanted to. The idea isn't that complex. The question is... do I really *want* to?

If I go back to editing with WMM2 now, that'll be like forgiving it for all of its "sins," so to speak.

Well, I guess we'll see what happens. I'm so indecisive about this stuff, but I don't want to buy a program I'm not gonna use.

With that said, I'm going to ACEN. Total change of topic, but I figured I'd express that. I have no idea how I'm going to realize when I bump into other .org members, but whatever...

Ergh. Three hours of sleep is not enough. Weirdly, though, I did better on the eight AM test I took than any other time, though. Very weird. Lack of sleep wires me, I guess.

    Well, I'm off. I'm rambling - as usual. : /
