  • Two hundred sixth entry - reviews 2006-09-18 17:39:06 Time - 3:35, Noise - Silent Hill 2 - "There was a Hole Here (OC Remix)"

*sigh* I really love that remix. It's probably one of the best on the site. It doesn't use breakbeat techno or fake-sounding choruses. It's just piano with violin and a light snare beat in the background. It's been a personal favorite for a long time now.

...and I swear we having fucking loud garbage trucks hanging on campus around the clock.

I just want to go out there and give them the Ultima Angry Face. >: (

So... what should this entry be about? To be honest, I didn't really have any thoughts in mind when I hit "New Journal Entry." Oh, I know. I've actually watched a lot of anime lately, but I haven't said much about them (probably because they didn't fall into my "AMV set"). Okay, so... let's go with each anime and little bit of my thoughts on them.

Ah! My Goddess (TV) - it can be very funny and cute at times, but I never was a huge Belldandy fan. However, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit and I had seen the OAVs, so I picked this one up too. Lovely animation - right on par with the movie. Worth the watch, but I wouldn't buy it. Recommended for previous AMG fans or those who wanted to see more of the comedic side of that anime.

Loveless - adorable, serious, confusing, and it has catboys. Despite the huge contradictions in this one's style, I still found myself enjoying it a lot. The imagery is lovely to boot. Recommended for shounen-ai with very high AMV potential and enjoyable characters.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - think of this as a toned down Excel Saga with a story. The main character is pretty loopy, but they actually explain things fairly well. What really bugged me about this series was the constant skipping around. You'd watch an episode, find out it had a part two, but you wouldn't actually see the second part until the episode AFTER the next one. It gave the series a very disconnected feel. Recommended for AMV material and a main character that's not quite like all the other anime girls out there.

Kaleido Star - primarily gorgeous eye candy during the acrobatic sequences, but I was surprised to find myself genuinely smiling along with the main character (Sora) when things got fun. My complaint about this series was that in just about every episode Sora seemed to be doing something mortally wrong and getting scolded for it, but nobody ever TOLD her what the hell she was doing! She was always expected to "figure it out." I guess it was supposed to be teaching life lessons, but it got old really quick. Recommended for AMV material and the fun characters.

Tsubasa (1st season) - since the second season is still in production, I won't comment on that. Tsubasa is probably my current favorite anime that I'm watching, although it's not my all-time favorite. It has gorgeous animation, as you'd expect from CLAMP, as well as a compelling storyline. The music is wonderful, too, as it's done by the talented Yuki Kajiura (who also composed for Le Portrait de Petit Cossette and Noir). The downside to this anime is that it does 4-6 episode arcs of the same mini-story and it gets boring with the minor recaps that take place every single episode. Also, it could afford to lose some of the umpteen dramatic (yet somehow lifeless) face shots that the anime likes to do during any given action moment. Recommended for CLAMP fans, but I wish it would move along a little quicker.

xxxHolic (TV) - different from CLAMP's other works both in style and in story, but it works decently. The main character (Watanuki) is a riot and I adore him. Of course, he has the strong, silent male companion (Doumeki) at his side - who annoys the hell out of him, naturally. His crush is the lovely (and clueless) Himawari, but he's such a spaz with so many problems of his own that you know he'll never get the girl. Think Hideki from Chobits, except angrier, and you have Watanuki. It's a supernatural story, and you'll find yourself watching many episodes dealing with spirits, ghosts, and sprites. My only complaint on the anime is that I want it to get to the damn spider episode already! >_< (It's my favorite part in the manga so far, mostly because of the yaoi undertones~<3 ) Recommended even if you're not quite a fan of CLAMP.

Monster (first season) - the most realistic one I've seen. The only reason I watched the first season was because the anime was suggested to me by someone else. It was decent, but it didn't warrant the second season for me. I guess I just like my sci-fi elements too much to give them up. Recommended for those who like a very down-to-earth, believable plot with more realistic animation.

Air (TV) - if you're not crying by the end of the series, you have a cold, dead heart. It goes a bit split-personality in the middle, but you understand by the end. The animation is absolutely to die for. This is a definite recommendation for the likable characters and the heart-wrenching story.

Boku no Sexual Harassment - it is by no means the best anime out there, but every yaoi fan should watch this at least once. That is all.

Level C - it's funny and cute - one of those yaoi classics.

Papa to Kiss in the Dark - if you took Tsuzuki from Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness) and Shuichi from Gravitation and crossed them, you would get the main character from this anime. With very nice animation, this is a recent shounen-ai title that shouldn't be missed by anyone looking for some dirty fun with a highly amusing main character.

Le Portrait de Petit Cossette - two words: EYE. CANDY. However, to go with the amazing stylized animation, there is actually a very sound story. This is an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a much darker anime than the usual run-of-the-mill entrants - and it makes great AMV material, too.

Well, I might go through some more later, but I'm stopping for dinner now.

    See you, folks.

  • Two hundred fifth entry - a meaningful entry (Take 2!) 2006-09-14 14:16:06 Time - 12:41, Noise - the janitor in the bathroom... o_O

So, while I'm waiting for the bathroom to be freed up, I figured I'd make a meaningful entry. Although, I do have to pointlessly gloat at my making-a-point pointless entry and my pointed ability to just pointlessly leave it at that point. Pointless, eh?

In other news - as if the first could really be considered news at all - I still haven't started on my video. I keep getting preoccupied with another video I'd like to work on. THE video. I don't have the room on my hard drive to start it, though. I couldn't even rip one episode. Yes, I said "episode." That means it's an anime, not a game.

Oh, that reminds me. I took advantage of that psycho anime sale on therightstuf.com and picked up a *proper* Cardcaptor Sakura collection. The one I own I can only believe is bootleg, but I didn't realize that at the time I bought it. I mean, just for watching it's fine, but if I ever want to make a CCS video (and I do have a few ideas floating around for one), I'm really going to want the proper boxset for the job. So, I bought a set while the buying was good. I decided to give the old boxset to my best friend. She said that CCS is something she wouldn't mind owning, but she didn't really want to buy it herself. So, this'll satisfy both conditions. I only paid $50 for the bootlegs anyway, so I don't feel too bad about giving them away - especially when I know that I just got a majorly better set for ~85 dollars.

So, anywho. I do have a few CCS ideas - one of which I came up with before I even saw the series. Amazingly, the idea still works. The other major idea (well, it's technically two ideas) was something I saw a request for in AMV Suggestions. That one is probably the most likely one to happen if I ever decide on a CCS video.

Hmm... what do I have to do today? Take a shower, wash my clothes, write an opinion (or two), do some homework, watch some anime, and... I'm sure that there's something I'm forgetting. I'd like to get out shopping today, but my ride never seems to be online, so I doubt he's seen the offline messages I've been leaving him. I doubt I'm going to be able to get out until the weekend - if he even goes online THEN. -_-

I think it's time to go now. Busy, busy, busy. And as an aside... Corn, you're hand must be getting awfully tired from all of that finger-pointing you're doing. Pointless, eh? : /

    See you, folks.

  • Two hundred fourth entry - a meaningful entry 2006-09-12 17:00:37 Time - 3:31, Noise - Pain - "Same Old Song"

Alrighty. Atheist is the name of the game for me, so let's see how many of these "commandments" I can break today. *cracks knuckles* >: )

"Thou shalt not use profanity unto thy neighbor."
Cornwiggle: you're a fucking pretentious, nitpicky asshole.

"Thou shalt not chit nor chat using entries."
Baby_Girl69: I really hope everything goes well for you. My mom's been in the hospital for severe asthma attacks a few times, and I remember how scary it was waiting for someone to tell me she was okay and to wait for her to BE okay. I sympathize with you, sweetie, so just be strong, okay?

"Thou shalt not pimp thy videos."
    It owns your soul:
    http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=119426

"Remember rules 1-3 to keep them holy."
    *forgets* Well, shit. o_O

"Honor thy priveledges of having a journal at all."
Fuck you, journal! You have the crappiest features ever! *ABUZE ABUZE ABUZE*

"Thou shalt not give out free sites for licensed merchandice."
Who said it had to be licensed? The mods get on your ass even if its not out yet. -_- So yeah. www.anime......... eh, nevermind.

"Thou shalt not complain nor promote QC's or Opinions, nor give reply's to either using entries."
<<I must don't have the codec to play your video 'cus it won't work on any of my players. Damn... I was looking forward to it to because I saw you supported a WMM user. Thanks for support us proud and few. Lol.>>
Thanks. Even though it didn't comment on my video, I still liked this comment because someone was noticing something good I'm doing for the community and was sweet enough to want to pay me back. Sure, the reciprocation got botched along the way, but that's okay. It's the thought that counts. ^_^

"Thou shalt keep entries subtle and meaningful."
    I'm bored.
    I'm sleepy.
    I'm hungry.
    OMG COOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111oneone

"Thou shalt keep entries per day to a limit of 3."
Okay, you win this round. >: (

Thou shalt follow all rules or suffer thy consequences. (Made by someone else >_>)
*proceeds with breaking all but one of them* :O

"Rule 11: Thou shalt not use journals at all because they are evil and if you do, you will be considered a junky and a fiend of the worst kind. The power of christ compels you."
OH NOES! NOT christ! I heard that dude was a hippie! *hides behind the journals to save herself* Well, fuck. ~_~

Anyway... as Jaddz pointed out, it gives me an eye twitch to leave this as a pointless entry. XD

BUT! I shall endure. dj_ultima IS capable of making a pointless entry! (But isn't making an entry about pointless entries making a point and therefore a meaningful entry itself???)

*sigh* I'll be back later. *twitch* >_o

  • Two hundred third entry - lists... everybody loves lists... 2006-09-10 15:03:07 Time - 12:51, Noise - the fan...

    Yu-Gi-Oh!

Generally speaking, my friend has more than I do - although I was the one to introduce her to anime. She just happens to be a bit better funded than I am (and a whiz on eBay), so she was able to afford several boxsets. However, we treat our anime, manga, and doujinshi pretty much as a co-ownership, so we're constantly trading things with each other.

It's a pretty hefty list when I look back on it. Hard to believe that I've actually watched that much. Not all of it has been very good, but there are some in that list that I'm absolutely obsessed with. I'm surprised that I don't own more of my favorites, though - like X (TV) and Gravitation, for example. Probably because my friend bought them before me. I didn't feel like making duplicates. Although, to be fair, she did buy a few that I already owned - but that was because she found a really good online deal for it. I don't really blame her for that.

Anyway, that's mah list, and I'ma go an' take a shower now.

    See you, folks.

  • Two hundred second entry - *passes out* 2006-09-08 21:32:36 Time - 7:30, Noise - jumping between digital media...

It's getting hot in here. So I took off my clothes.

Okay, not really. More like I changed into an outfit that actually breathes. I don't own any shorts, so I either have to go around my room in my pants or my underwear - or in this case, my cotton pajama pants. No happy medium there. Seriously. I couldn't find a pair of comfortable shorts even if I wanted to. Guys' shorts have all of the extra crotch room in them - which I obviously don't need. o_O Girls' shorts may as well be fucking hot pants anymore. There is NO LEG on them at all, and with a girl like me (who has big thighs), that just isn't working. My legs will get raw rubbing together while walking if I don't have cloth between them.

Besides, there isn't a pair of shorts out there that look good on fat chicks. : /

That aside, in between episodes of Cardcaptor Sakura (I've only seen the entire second season once, so I decided to watch it again), I was perusing The Forbidden Site. I meant to look for clips with CLAMP in them, but I somehow got distracted on Chihiro Onitsuka. Anyway, I watched a few different incarnations of "Infection," since that's a beautiful song. Chihiro looks... weird... when she sings. She does a lot of leaning and doubling over; it's very passionate, of course, but it makes her look like The Hunchback. However, I found one thing very interesting. She did a version of "Foolish Games" by Jewel. I really liked the original version of that song, and she did a good play on it. Of course, she kept saying "clazy." She got all of the other r's right, but she kept missing that one.

Anyway, I still haven't gotten around to finding CLAMP stuff - I suspect a lot of AMVs will greet me during that search. For now, though, I'm gonna keep watching Cardcaptor Sakura. I love the series as a whole, but now I find myself skipping around and just watching my favorite episodes again. But I'm gonna keep at it in order this time, because I need to start bulking up my knowledge of the anime. I'd like to make a CCS video within the next year. And a Saikano anime video. And a Saikano manga music video. But I digress. There are many videos I would like to do - it's just a matter of will and hard drive space. ~_~

    Anywho, I'm getting distracted.

    See you, folks.
