  • Two hundred twenty sixth entry - More MEP craze 2006-10-28 03:27:07 Time - 2:05, Noise - FictionJunction YUUKA - "Aikoi"

Hmm... looks like the only MEP I'm really interested in being a part of probably won't be happening. Fuck.

Well, this realization inspired me to jot down some of my MEP ideas (which will never get done, because I'm too much of a n00b to head a project yet). They're in no particular order.

    1. Crossover Project - I already had an interest gauge for this in the forums, but nobody wanted to head it, so nothing more came of that idea. There was a lot of interest, though, and a lot of good feedback - both positive and negative.

    2. Manga MEP - a MEP comprised completely of manga (obviously). Should probably use a single song, and it shouldn't be longer than eight minutes, as even the most experienced editors on the .org have a tough time making still images capture interest for long periods of time. However, I've always been absolutely enthralled with MMVs, so I'd love to see a project like this.

    3. Anime Composition Celebration MEP - a project that features music only from anime. NOT opening or ending themes, since that would just get boring. There's some terrific anime music out there (check out anything that Yuki Kajiura has written, and you'll see what I mean); it's just begging for a tribute.

    4. Experiments in Motion - I'm fond of experiments when I'm editing. So, the point of this MEP would be to take one, fluid song, and mix it with several editors and anime. There's a catch, though. There is NEVER to be a still scene in the entire video. Always motion, and the motion of one segment must lead into the next. A tough project because of the coordination it would take, but I think the results would be very interesting.

    5. CLAMP Tribute - they're a cultural icon, and just about any fan of anime has encountered a CLAMP anime or manga, whether or not they actually indulged in it. Ever since Tsubasa came out, I had been thinking of several videos that incorporated all other CLAMP anime + Tsubasa into one odd crossover-ish video. I may still do this, but a full-blown MEP for them would be the second best option.

From easiest to hardest, it's probably 3, 5, 2, 4, 1. Maybe in the distant future I'll head 3 or 2, but it wouldn't be for a long, long time - hence, "distant."

Naturally, anyone else with free time is totally allowed to swipe my ideas. I encourage it, in fact.

I guess I should go to bed now. It's pretty late... or early, depending on how you look at things. o_O

    Anywho, nighty night, folks~<3

PS: no, I never did get any more of my video edited. I just cut up some clips and started sort of arranging them. v_v
  • Two hundred twenty fifth entry - la la la la la la la la la la.... 2006-10-27 15:15:32 Time - 2:07, Noise - Kajiura Yuki - "Rainbow"

It's one of those days... when you look at the timeline of your video and just keep staring for a long, long time. Then, you realize that three songs have already passed on your playlist. So you go to watch some anime instead - but then you come back. And stare. At the timeline. Again.

So then you go write a journal entry about it.

Oh, but don't worry. You'll be back to stare soon enough.

  • Two hundred twenty fourth entry - coincidence...? In this case, yes. 2006-10-25 17:23:46 Time - 3:57, Noise - Gackt - "Storm"

Have you ever started editing a video, and then suddenly a great one by someone else pops up out of nowhere? This happens to me all the time, regardless of how obscure my source is - and it's a pretty damn uncommon one this time (though not as unknown as Chocobo's Dungeon - seriously; do a search for it!). Anyway, this really good video just got uploaded a few days ago. I watched it... and now it saddens me to look at my own video. Discouraging, really. However, the editor didn't announce it in the forums, and hopefully he won't (I know that sounds mean, but it's the truth). I hate seeming like some kind of copycat just because I happened to start on a video a little while before someone chose to release his.

In any case, as not to reveal the source of my own video, I won't start pimping that guy's until I've finished and released mine. I WILL pimp his, though, in my signature.

Again, I'm just killing time before dinner with this entry. I really ought to come back and edit after I eat, since the sooner I finish this video, the more time I'll be giving myself to edit the one for sto's contest. I'm still pretty doubtful that I'll be able to finish that one in time, but I want to try. However... there's something that I'm going to have to teach myself for that video... and I hope I'm able to learn it quickly. There is a way I can substitute what I want to do if it comes to that, but it won't look nearly as good.

Hmm... I need to hang around online tonight - not that I wasn't planning to do that anyway. Thursday is my day of freedom from classes this semester, so I stay up uber late on Wednesday nights. But there's a reason why I have to stay up this time - a secret, of course. ^_~

Talked to my advisor (who also happens to be my Spanish teacher) about the study abroad program. I need to go overseas for a semester as a part of my major (Spanish). I'm not looking forward to it, but it's thankfully not until first semester of my senior year (I'm a first semester sophomore right now, in case you didn't know). I purposely picked the fall semester because I refuse to miss a year of ACen. Cod knows I might not be able to go once I'm out of college, so I'm taking the chance while I have it. Oh, and I'm going to Spain, if you're curious. My teacher keeps pestering me to go to Latin America for the culture's sake, but I fail to see how that is going to matter when all I'm doing is translating and interpreting. I'm not teaching Spanish, on account of the fact that I hate kids. Yeah, there will be some times when I won't quite match up with the person I'm communicating with (who more often than not will be from Latin America), but the differences in the Spanish dialects are mild enough that I can find ways around the words or grammar points that don't mesh. And it's not like I'm just going to stop studying other forms of Spanish once I get to Spain. I know how important it is to know the Spanish that's spoken below the equator as well as above it. Anywho, the point is that I'm going to Spain, and I'll adapt to the other issues as they arise.

Well, it's just about time for dinner, so I'm out of here.

    See you, folks~<3

  • Two hundred twenty third entry - ignorance is bliss? 2006-10-24 22:11:05 Time - 8:18, Noise - Panic! At the Disco - "Time to Dance"

Don't ask me why my entry is titled that way. It was the first thing that popped to mind. No, no list this time. I went home last weekend - still forgot some things - but they're not all that important anyway. However, I did bring back a huge number of videogames. It's amazing how a lot of games makes me feel instantly more comfortable and at home.

The horror~! No, not of my AMVs, but rather, of what might be the absence of one. I was going through my college schedule, and considering my AMV schedule, when something occured to me. I have an entire month off for Christmas, which basically removes January from my editing schedule. That's right when I'd be working on the video for inthesto's Videogame Music Appreciation contest. I could work on it just before I leave and just after I come back, but considering I'm already a slow editor... there's really no way I'm going to get it done. I'll try, but it's just not enough time with that long vacation poised in the middle. That's depressing. I was really hoping to contribute something to sto - not for the prize, but just because his number of submissions is pretty low.

In any case, this gives me some motivation to work on my current video. With any luck, I can get it done, get my anime club contest video done soon after, and try to work on sto's contest video. And all of this stupid homework getting in my way isn't helping. : /

So... I think it's time I went off and edited for a bit. I've had the random urge to DDR all day, but that's not going to happen.

And now I'm all depressed. I'm sorry, I can't share the reason why (or rather, I won't, out of respect for the person) - but I just heard a story that I was hoping I would never have to hear. *sigh* Poor thing. I would reach through the monitor and hug you if I could.

But I digress. Editing. Yes. Editing.

    See you.

  • Two hundred twenty second entry - 222! 2006-10-20 16:36:09 Time - 3:33, Noise - Within Temptation - "Angels"

...and with a bit of guided help from a friend, in addition to some fumbling about on my part, the mystery of the disappeared Magix mouse option is solved.

Until my next technological disaster... this is Ultima - signing out. : /
