  • Three hundred sixth entry - I'm a morning person. Really. 2007-04-18 07:52:03 Time - 6:35, Noise - hum of the compy

I'm not looking forward to today. At all. In fact, I'm not really looking forward to the rest of the week. The only redeeming quality of this week is that last night in band, I pulled out the most godly new reed I have ever used. I daresay that the geeky musical angels shined down upon that little piece of wood. So glad that I got it just before the concert, too. It gives me just enough time to get used to the dynamics that it changed before next week's performance.

Yeah. I'm last chair and I suck. But when I get a reed that plays that beautifully, even I feel like top of the section.

I hate encoding. It's as simple as that. You know why? It's because I can tell you basically everything that the AV Tech guide says (I've nearly memorized it), but when I actually try to put it into practice, it doesn't work. I had to play twenty questions when I was in IRC last night, and through a mishmash of help, I was eventually able to get my video encoded right. I think. It looks weird to my eyes, but that's probably because I've been editing with it in a different format all this time. Whatever the case, I just want to get this video uploaded and over with. Then, I need to work on the distribution version, which actually will be slightly different due to some feedback that I got in time for the release but not in time for the convention.

After that, I can delete all fifty or so gigs of this anime, because I decided to drop The OTHER Video for now. That will give me room to rip and get started on FMV, as well as the Clow MEP, which is probably easiest to do at the same time as FMV.

Well, I've gone on too long this morning. I just want to delay the day ahead of me, I guess. But I have to go now. So, what have we learned today, kids? New reeds make you feel heavenly, encoding blows, and shuffling HD space on the compy is a pain.

See you, folks. Don't wish me luck today. Wish me survival. ~_~

  • Three hundred fifth entry - the perfect mix 2007-04-15 20:09:12 Time - 6:45, Noise - Onimusha 4 OST - "Jubei's Journey"

So, I'm almost positive of the music that I'll be using for the next FMV MEP. I'll be mixing stuff from the Onimusha 4 soundtrack (think Devil May Cry 3 OST with a feudal Japanese twist). I mean, the music is ideal for editing, and because it all comes from the same soundtrack, it all has a similar feel to it and should thus mix easily. I know I've gushed over this OST before, so I won't go into it anymore than that.

Basically speaking, though, it should make for a good mix AND it has the added bonus of cutting down on idle time at the start of a project. We spent way too long waiting for people to send in songs this time around, and I want to eliminate that completely next time if I can. Also, I've decided that FMV 2 (and any other MEPs I head, for that matter) will probably benefit from doing background checks. (You know, the whole, "post which segment you want and then an example of your best work" thing.) I know eight of the twelve editors this time around, and I'm not concerned about any of them. They're all good. However, I don't know four of them, and anyone you don't know always worries you. It's like having the really quiet kid assigned to your group project in school. You never know if they're going to do their part or not, or how good it will be when it's done.

But I have faith. The ones I don't know all seem fairly enthusiastic and focused, so I shouldn't worry too much about them.

I have about a minute left of THE Video to edit. This is the easy, downhill part, though, so I'm not worried. I'll make the deadline, if a bit nail-bitingly close to it. Actually, I'm going to go edit now. Maybe I'll finish it tonight. If I do, I'd like to make an XviD and have some of the IRC folks beta it for me. I've kind of gotten over my beta jitters. No point in being secretive, since my videos aren't really anything special to gossip about.

But I'll still never say what sources I'm using for a video. That has nothing to do with me being secretive, but rather more to do with me jinxing myself out of finishing every video I've ever divulged to the public. Call it superstition, but I'll keep things to myself if it means I'll get it done. Besides, the code names I make up for the videos really ARE how I think of them. I call THE Video, "THE Video" when I'm talking about it with my best friend, even though she already knows my sources. Just as I call The OTHER Video and The Twin Videos by those names.

By the way, The OTHER Video is being dropped for now, due to the fact that I joined several MEPs (time constraints) and I don't think I'm quite experienced enough with effects to make that video work just yet. Also, I just want to work with other sources for a while. This one did not clean up very well, and I'd rather work with something that actually rips well, cleans well, and just looks good altogether.

In any case, I had best go now. I don't have very long to finish this video, so I should be using every spare moment I have, right?

    See you, folks.

  • Three hundred third entry - ......? 2007-04-09 20:08:54 Time - 6:00, Noise - traffic outside

Ugh. What's up with so many people making crappy Within Temptation videos? The songs don't even remotely fit the content in most cases. They're becoming the new Evanescence, I swear. I was *almost* guilty of a crappy WT video before I came to my senses and stopped that disaster from happening. Check out Discontinued Thoughts...

...if you're curious what I'm referring to.

I think I just ninja pimp'd there. Surprise!

Anyway, I promptly got nothing done over this break. Well, I played 22 hours of Dark Cloud, but I didn't need to do that. I needed to edit my video, and I only got about ten seconds done of that. I'm going to edit after I finish showering tonight.

On a different note, I finally managed to score the light board I've been wanting for so long. Haven't tried it out yet, but I will soon. I have some chibis that would probably appreciate a good scanning-in, and a Deviant Art account that's likely wondering where the hell I've been for the last two years.

...I lied. I'm going to play a game. And then I'll edit. Maybe.

    See you, folks.
