  • Three hundred eleventh entry - 7100 hits...? 2007-04-24 19:07:58 Time - 5:40, Noise - Vast - "Thrown Away"

    Wow... I actually gained a lot of hits since last time I posted. I guess my schedule is that interesting...?

    About that, I chatted briefly with my advisor after Spanish today, and he seems surprisingly receptive to me going with the idea I had. (That is, for me to miss the first hour of a two hour Thursday class if I still make the other two hours on T/Th, since the first hour conflicts with Japanese.) I'm probably not taking the Spanish Violence class that he suggested, but I'll still need to find a slot for my math class. That simplifies matters considerably. It'll put me at 15 credits if I miss the Violence class, but oh well. Eighteen credit schedules blow anyway. I prefer to hang between 14 and 16.

    On a different note, I tried masking out some lip flap in THE Video today, but it's not going well. I can't get it to look right. However, I only tried one part, so I'll try a few others and see if my degree of success is a bit better there. I can handle the couple speaking at a few parts if that's what has to be done. After all, you can't have a relationship without speaking. These two just happen to chatter too much. Then, there are some parts where I'm purposely NOT removing the lip. It just wouldn't look right, because the fact that one person is yelling at the other one is the *reason* why the other is reacting in a certain way. It wouldn't make sense to take that out. Still, though, I'll keep trying on the other parts. The others may look better than this one did.

    I got such a freakin' good idea for a Tsubasa manga music video a few weeks ago. I'm completely obsessed with the song, and now I really want to make the video. I think it's slowly becoming the new THE Video for me. Trouble is that I need to wait for the rest of the series to come out, because I'm thinking that there are going to be scenes I want out of it for this video.

    Manga music video. Eeesh. Just the thought of it makes me wonder how difficult it would be. I know that it would take much more effort than an AMV, because a slide show is pure boredom 95% of the time. I'd have to brush up on effects for that sucker. Good thing in this case, though. I already have a good idea of what sorts of effects I'd want to use. That's a phenomenal thing for me, considering that my brain does NOT think in effects normally. Fade to black/white is about the extent of my effect repertoire, so coming up with complex ideas like this so quickly is pretty amazing.

    What's the idea, you ask? As usual, I can't tell, or I'd jinx myself out of doing it. I don't mind divulging one of the sources, though, because it's probably going to be more than a year before I can do the idea. Chances are everyone would forget that I ever had the idea by the time I actually got around to starting it.

    And I don't forget ideas. I had the concept for THE Video for about a year before I started in on it last month.

    I guess I better go. I need to leave for band in fairly short time. Final rehearsal before the concert on Thursday! o^_^o

  • Three hundred tenth entry - THEY ALL CONFLICT!!! X_X 2007-04-23 21:22:00 Time - 7:46, Noise - Pink - "Stupid Girls"

    Okay... so I go to sign up for classes, thinking that it would be easy. Aside from having too damn many number to juggle in the screwy sign up system, it's never been much of a problem for me. Zero credits down, eighteen to go. Let's tango with the sign up system.

    So I put in my Band class first. Easy. Tuesday 7-9 at night. That *never* conflicts with anything.

    Then I put in Japanese I, knowing that it might only have one section available (dinky-ass school, doesn't offer ANY Asian languages - even this one is long distance learning). M/T/W/Th, 12-1. No problem. Doesn't conflict with lunch, at least.

    French I is next. Also M/T/W/Th, but from 10-11. Hey, that's perfect. Gives me a nice hour from 11-12 to eat lunch.

    Math With Applications is next. T/Th, 9:30-11. Well, fuck. Conflicts with French. Another section, maybe? WTF, there *isn't* one!? Okay... looks like we're going to have to look into another math class. (I looked. There are other classes that can work and make just as much sense.)

    Spanish Literature and Culture is up now. Another T/Th... ugh. 1-2 and 12-2. Oh, for the love of... that conflicts with Japanese! Another section? Of course not. Like a fucking 3840 level course would have another section. >: (

    Spanish Violence wraps it all up. MWF, ooh, nice. ........12-1. I hate you. Or rather, Spanish hates Japanese, it would seem. Fuck finding another section. If 3840 didn't have it, why would 3850? (I checked anyway. It only has one.)

    I don't know what to do now. Spanish is my major. Japanese is just a hobby. My advisor is my Spanish professor. You already know what he's going to suggest - drop Japanese. But it's always going to conflict with something. ALWAYS. If I don't stand my ground on this one, I'll never be able to take it - and if not this semester, then at least not until next year, since Japanese I is only offered in the fall.

    However... my advisor just happens to be the professor for one of the conflicting classes. The literature and culture one. And if I can convince him, he might let me take it anyway. I mean, I can make the Tuesday hour, and the second hour on Thursday. And I'd be willing to pick up the slack of the hour I miss. Assuming I can get the math class I want, that would bring me up to a 14 credit schedule.

    And then there's the second Spanish class. I don't know what to do about that. Maybe I can bargain for Independent Study? I don't think so, but hell if I don't try. That would give me 17 credits. If you're wondering where the eighteenth credit comes from that I mentioned in the beginning, it's the result of taking band. I'm not even sure that counts for a credit anymore, so I don't count it. Besides, it's recreation, not a class. I just happen to have to show up for it.

    Ugh. I hate signing up for classes. It always gives me headaches like this, although usually it's just been because of the awful sign up system. That got changed this year, so it's not so bad. But they removed something very useful from the new system that was in the old one - a feature that instantly told you if you had input a conflicting class. This new system just lets you put in whatever you want without saying what won't work. Fortunately, I always sketch out my schedule in a notebook before I input stuff, so it's not as big of a deal for me. But it's still annoying.

    That's my best solution for now. I just need to run it by my advisor, and with any luck, he'll let me try it.

  • Three hundred ninth entry - Is your AMV on my compy? 2007-04-22 22:44:12 Time - 8:29, Noise - Ryan Cabrera - "On the Way Down"

    I've been wanting to do this list for a while now, but I was waiting to re-download as many AMVs as I could before that. I think I'm pretty much finished, aside from the needle-in-a-haystack p2p searches I may be doing this summer. So, before the list, a few notes:

    1. Aurora Vampira and dj_ultima are both me. I didn't start labeling my own videos with dj_ultima until I started using Magix.

    2. 95% of the videos in this list are AMVs. The other 5% consist of official music videos and other related videos that I wanted (usually for a game). I just happen to keep all of this stuff in the same folder for ease of location.

    3. With the exception of a few really amazing videos, I only keep AMVs using anime/games I know. It's especially obvious when I have several videos to one source. The ones that I only have one or two videos for may not be sources I'm familiar with (the two videos using Pale Cocoon are an example of this).

    4. Videos might not all be labeled correctly. It's difficult to keep track of this many videos, especially when not all of them had a nice and neat entry on the .org (or they did, but that's not where I downloaded it in the first place). What's mostly missing is the editors for several of them, because that's the hardest thing to obtain if there isn't an .org entry. So please bear with me.

    5. If you're video isn't on my list, don't feel bad. I may not have even seen it, or sometimes I just have too many great videos for one source and I can't afford to keep them all. That's what my side document of 650+ video listings is for.

    6. Have fun looking through what I consider to be the most amazing, quirky, touching, funny, dramatic, riveting, and just plain awsm-est videos out there.

    Actually, I really have nothing to write. I just need something to do before I go to bed.

    So... the .org is slow right now. Takes an eternity for the prompt to pop up. I figured it was just my internet, but I saw godix put up a thread in the forum, so I guess it's a site-wide thing. Oh well. The download speeds are the same, so I can wait a few extra minutes for it to start. I'm sure whatever it is will be resolved soon enough. It always is.

    Okay, I guess typing was a bad idea. My eyes don't want to stay open. And it's already pretty late (not really, but I wake up at 6 AM on weekdays, so this feels like a long day), so I should get to bed. Downloads all look like they're going okay, so no need for me to hover over them.

    So, my video for ACen is currently uploading to their server. It probably would have been done by now, except that stupid Windows crashed and canceled my IE uploading. So, I had to start over. I'm at seventy percent, and as long as I don't open any folders, I think I'll be okay. I'm pretty sure I need to reboot the compy, but I'll do that tomorrow morning.

    Distribution form will be different, as I've mentioned, so you all probably won't see it until after the convention. Don't worry. It may be THE Video for me, but it ain't all that impressive. You're not missing out on too much if I wait a month to release it here.

    I need to watch some of the videos I've downloaded recently. I have about ten tabs open right now with video profiles sitting on 'em. I'm such a slacker. ;p

    Anyway, it's bedtime, and I most certainly need sleep, given the lack thereof last night. This day has sucked to no end of my imagination, but at least I'm going to bed in a good mood. ^_^
