Three hundred seventy first entry - roommate and misc.
2007-09-11 17:46:39
Time - 3:29, Noise - Placebo - "The Bitter End"
So, I did it. I dropped the Sync MEP. I still feel bad for doing it. I had what I thought was a great idea for it, but the more I thought it through, the worse it seemed. Then, I realized how many other time constraints I had to worry about, and I eventually decided that I don't want to be a part of a project that I'm not giving my full effort to. It's not fair to the coordinator, the project, or myself. So I dropped - but there's a lot of great editors on that project, so I don't really think it'll suffer without me. :D
Speaking of projects... I need to work on my segment and the intro for FMV. I can probably do the intro in one sitting if I just take the time to get it started. My segment will take longer, but with the deadline looming, I really need to give myself a kick in the ass to get going. For the next MEP (a long ways down the road), I'm definitely gonna have a number of options available for the song mix ready. I'm also planning on auditions, as I've mentioned before. Furthermore, I'm gonna limit beta-testing to just me and one other person (as of yet to be decided/offered the position). Those three things alone should make my life immensely easier. The only trouble is the timing, as I've lamented previously. Either I start the project right after I release this one, or it waits until January of '09. I'll be basically inaccessible while I'm in Spain from September to December, meaning no coordinating for me. Even if I had my sister's laptop, it'd be a piece of crap. Well, that's a bit harsh. It's not bad. It's just useless to me as a video editor. Anywho, the long and the short of it is that I either rush into #2, or I delay it greatly - and I DO want a #2. And probably a three, just to make it a nice trilogy.
Ah, I lied. No roommate commentary for now... I'm bored of writing. I'm sure I'll end up making an entry later. Until then...
See you, folks. <3

Three hundred seventieth entry - Almighty Chopstick Hands!

Time - 7:18, Noise - The Price is Right failure music... ;_;
I believe I may have mentioned this before, but this video deserves a watch:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=142040
The reason I say this isn't just because it's a series of games I adore... it's mostly just because I think that this is a very well done Horror video. Sure, the video quality is pretty bad in a lot of spots (although, if you know the games, it actually feels somewhat natural to have a wonked-out picture), but it has absolutely solid beat sync, scene selection, and a general air about it that makes it WAY more "horror" than many of the other videos I've seen marked as such. (My own 'The Chosen Two' included. That is NOT meant to be a scary video, and pales in comparison to this one's intentional fear-inducement.)
Anyway, the point is that this is a good horror video, despite the seemingly low-quality appearance. Never judge a book by its cover...? :O
Let's see... I don't feel like doing it now, so maybe in my next entry I'll comment on my roommate this year. For now, I'm off.
See you, folks.

Three hundred sixty ninth entry - solutions, resolutions, and why the fuck is it so HOT!? ;_;
2007-09-04 23:21:56
Time - 8:55, Noise - Placebo - "Every You Every Me"
So... I'm here. At college. Again. Not miserable like I usually am, and I suspect this is partly due to having a roommate to keep me occupied and off of my inner thoughts. I didn't want a roommate. I still don't. But if I have to have one, she's pretty nice - a freshman, and something of a girly girl with a love for all things green. Not that I like girly girls, but this means that she has an extreme social life, and I get the room mostly to myself anyway.
Had my first day of classes today... it's my busiest day of the week, so if I can survive this, I can survive anything. Got my first taste of French (lots of French, very fast, and I needed to bring my book, because I was fucking up pronunciation without a text/visual reference), and I finally started Japanese (which resulted in fifty minutes of repeated greetings... it was like being in grade school o_O ). Spanish was... well, Spanish. I'm getting used to having those classes conducted entirely in said language, but it's still "meh" to me.
So, my resolution this year is to do well. I gotta pull B's in at least all of my language classes, and even try for it in math. The reason I say this now is because with a roommate, it's now somewhat possible. When no one's living with me, I slack. When I have a roommate, I'm more inclined to do work. It's as simple as that. *shrug*
My "solution" is for the FMV MEP. As usual, my best ideas come to me in the shower, and this was no exception. I figured out how to hit every beat, show every editor's name, and still have it look nice. Now to actually make it work.
And... it's fucking hot here. The fan is on, but the air is humid as hell and it gets sweltering hot every time the door is shut for any length of time. It's awful, and I can't wait until it starts cooling down a LOT. I want winter to be here already. I'm prepared for that. I can deal with the face-freezing wind tunnel known as the road to campus (which passes right by the cemetery - and yes, I mention this frequently because it is FUCKING AWSM to have a cemetery on campus).
Think my roomie might be thinking of bed soon... which is WAY early, in my opinion, but whatever. It's easier if we both sleep at the same time. So I'll end this now.
Nighty night, folks.

Three hundred sixty eighth entry - I don't think I thought out my cunning plan so well...
2007-08-29 17:54:08
Time - 4:01, Noise - Ellen talk show in the living room...
Uh... oh... I think... I may have an issue.
See, the intro for Project FMV is my duty (figured it would make sense since it leads into my track), but... I think I miscalculated what I need to do. Either I cut back on the idea, or I forge forward with more... and I don't really have the TIME to do more. Here's the deal...
The intro music has ten measures of audio before my track. There are four "beats" per measure. There are three dilemmas that I'm facing regarding this:
1. I want a different image for each beat. There are forty beats total. I have twenty-five images and not really enough time to make more.
2. There are twelve editors on the project. I wanted to either show one editor's name per measure, or two at a time. If I do one at a time, there are two left over by the end of ten measures. Even if I leave myself off, that's still one editor unaccounted for, and that's unacceptable. If I show two names at a time, I run out of names at measure six.
3. Halfway through the tenth measure, it moves from "intro" sound to "first track" sound. I was planning on moving between them with a simple "Project FMV" title image. Why is this problematic? It means that any information on the tenth measure gets half of the screentime of the other measures - and if this is an editor's name, that's not fair to the editor.
Potential solutions:
1-A. Hit only two of the four beats per measure. It's more awkward rhythmically, but it ensures that I have enough images to make all ten measures, with the worst five pictures left over and, essentially, left out.
1-B. Hit just the first beat per measure. Makes sense rhythmically, but I leave two games unrepresented in the images. That's kind of like leaving out two editor's names - unacceptable.
2-A. Just give in to asymmetry and put three names on the last two measures. I could live with this, but I hate being asymmetrical. >_<
2-B. Show two at a time, and use the left over four measures to show musical artists featured in the project.
3-A. Be even more asymmetrical and show three names on the last *three* measures, and leave the tenth one blank except for the image(s), which can move into the "FMV" title screen.
I figure that the best thing I can do is to is to try the different solutions and see what the members of the project think. This is a very simple-looking intro, so I want it to be as clean as it can be.
I think that's what I'm off to do now. Hopefully it'll look better than I think it's going to. Just gotta keep at it...
See you, folks.

Three hundred sixty seventh entry - loops
2007-08-27 18:42:07
Time - 5:15, Noise - Silent Hill 4 - "Cradel of Forest (piano)"
So, I got Silent Hill 4 for the PC because I want to see if I can get my compy to properly do some capturing for those types of games. I beat it earlier (my time was 4:44, which is really pretty crappy compared to how fast I've done it before), but I didn't get the ending I was expecting. It's very easy to determine which ending you'll get, because it's only based on two factors, both of which only come into play in the second half of the game. The first is whether or not you clean out the hauntings in your apartment room. The second is whether or not the side character that travels with you dies at the end of the game. Obviously, with those two factors, you can then determine that there are four possible endings. I thought I was going to get the best one, but for some reason, I got the ending that said my room still had hauntings. I thought I had cleared them all.
Anyway, it was just unexpected. I've already gotten all of the endings in the PS2 version, so it's not like I care what I get. Actually, I was amazed that I didn't kill off the other character at the end. I move awkwardly without my analog, and it's tough to be quick in selecting items when you have to use the scroller on the mouse. My brother has some adapter that allows the PS2 controller to be plugged into the computer, but it still takes away my analog. So I'm stuck with the d-pad - and with the way Henry moves, the d-pad isn't the greatest thing to use. I suspect that Silent Hill 1-3 would be easier on the PC. I use the 3-D controls with them, so I prefer the d-pad then.
So... as various people have continued to pester me about it, I decided to start watching Ouran High School Host Club. I'm three episodes in and it's pretty good. Kind of a cross between the lightheartedness of Fruits Basket and the wacky humor of Gravitation. Obviously, my favorite characters are the twins (who'd-a thunk it...?). Depending on how it progresses, I might consider buying it someday. However, I'd really like to get some more serious anime in my (extremely small) collection. Everything I have is really girly and cute. Maybe someday I'll stumble across something serious that I love. Until then... cutsie it is.
Dinner's almost done, so I'm-a head off now.
See you, folks.
