JOURNAL: Damaramu

  • Best I Can Do 2001-10-25 22:19:34 I replaced the DivX finally. This seems to be about as good as I'm going to get without tearing apart my machine to figure out why I'm having weird video codec issues. It looks like most people are downloading the MPEG version instead anyway.

Now I'm going off to think up a new, better idea. I need something to practice digital effects. Cross-fades and all that good stuff. The trick is to use them effectively. Effects that are just there for show just seem to detract from the video.

I'll probably delve into another anime with almost no music videos again for this one. After all, does the world really need another mediocre Eva video? I also don't want to repeat series, so I'd rather wait to do a Bebop video so I can get it right and leave the series alone after. Of course, the movies would still be fair game...

Music's a problem too. I have incredible difficulty finding good anime music video music. I have great music (ahem, great to me) in my playlist, but I can rarely think up a series to match any of it to. I'm down to playing everything I have access to right now and checking it against my list of anime to find matches. Somehow, I don't think the creative process is supposed to work quite like this.
  • Endless Frustration 2001-10-24 09:05:15 After numerous attempts, I've got a DivX version, as promised. Unfortunately there are several glitches in it and the quality isn't what I was hoping. I'll redo it if I can get some slightly more intelligent software working.

It's almost enough for me to write a whole rant on how difficult it is to export a music video, but everything I'm using has "beta" written all over it so I should hardly be surprised.

And finally, no, I'm not going to make a habit of updating my journal every three hours or so. This is just a follow-up. I'd be surprised if I manage to update every three months...
  • Well, I'm Here 2001-10-24 05:39:23 I may as well throw in a journal entry to kick off my animemusicvideos.org debut. I released a music video before this, I think a year ago, but it didn't really get distributed at all. Now I'm waiting to get my hands on the DVD so I can redo it before posting it here.

I would've liked something slighty better to start out on, though. It'll be pretty easy for people to take one look and say, "Ugh! Battle Arena Toshinden? No thanks." I know that's what I'd say. But hey, it seems like everyone has to do an obligatory fighting video, and so I've gotten mine out of the way early.

Actually, I will say it's not that bad a video. I had a few ideas and they mostly panned out, making the end result fairly decent in so far as timed-people-beating-each-other-up goes. This despite the fact that I ran out of footage once I was two-thirds done and had to start cobbling sequences together out of whatever scraps were left.

You don't have to believe me, of course, but the best way to tell is to download the thing for yourself. I think 58 megs might be a little big for some people, so I'm working on a DivX version that should be closer to 35.
