JOURNAL: Damaramu

  • Almost Inspired 2001-11-01 12:31:22 This videos both a pain and a joy. The first two thirds are just beautiful, and easily the best work I've ever done. The last third... is not. I've been juggling footage for it with only mild success. Another idea came to me just before falling asleep, so I'll try that later today.

Even with the crappy part, the video makes me say, "Ooo, cool." At least, it did last night at 5 in the morning. That just makes me want to fix it all the more. If I could make the last third as good as the first, I think this could really be a great video.
  • Nothing Yet 2001-10-30 16:03:12 I woke up this morning to a comment on the Toshinden video. I sort of expected it all except the pounding I took on the overall. My fault for making a Toshinden video. So about a comment on the Tenchi video, people?

Surprisingly, I already have another video going. This time I really like both the song and the series, so I'm being much more picky than usual. Unfortunately, I had to resort to some less than perfect video source.

For whatever reason, this video seems a lot more difficult. I wanted to have some cool tricks with layered video, but I'm having a hard time finding the right footage to get in just one layer of video everywhere. I might just reserve it as a trick for a couple places in the video.
  • Desperate Plea 2001-10-28 23:59:02 My second video seems to be getting downloaded a lot more frequently than my first. I'm not sure if it's better or if people were just avoiding Battle Arena Toshinden.

I actually went around and put in some opinions on other music videos. You might be able to guess where this is leading.

Can't someone leave an opinion on my videos? Even if they're the worst thing you've ever seen, I'd like to know. Better yet, tell me what I did wrong so I can do it better next time. If even one percent of the people out there downloading my videos left an opinion, I'd be happy.
  • Forgot 2001-10-28 05:12:51 I almost forgot to mention that I noticed Brett Weaver's joined animemusicvideos.org

Who is Brett Weaver? The only American voice actor I know the name of. Admittedly this is because his name occurs about thirty times in the credits to Dirty Pair Flash, but I and the person I was watching it with have been following him a little bit. Heck, we asked ADV if we could host a copy of his liveaudio interview.

More importantly, he's the voice actor for Damaramu. I wonder what I'd have to do to get him to record himself saying "Damaramu will regret this" for the opening splash of my videos?
  • Unbelievably Fast 2001-10-28 04:54:11 Another video already? Quite an accomplishment, considering how long it used to take me to make these things. I think the new, easier method of acquiring footage is really helping.

Anyway, I head this song for the first time and immediately got the idea for this video. Again, I'm doing an anime I don't particularly like, but I'm not following the movie script anyway.

On the plus side, this new one is completely unlike my last video. In fact, they're about as far apart as I can get. Actually, it's very different from most videos I've seen. Sort of a dark comedy with a strange ending.

This was a hard video. I got so frustrated in the middle of it that I almost gave up on it several times. When I finally gave a preview to a friend, it was mainly in hope that they'd confirm it sucked and I could throw it away. Instead they came back and told me the first two minutes were good. I fixed up the part they were complaining about and sent out a couple more previews. One came back saying the first half was good, the other saying the whole thing was good. Maybe I'm just a little hard on myself.

To be honest, I packaged the final version up in a bit of a rush. A little fine polish could have been applied in a couple places, but I'm too tired of working on it to do that. Maybe I'll come back to it some day.

I still like the video for the concept. The execution isn't quite what I hoped for in a couple places, but the first half is certainly decent and I've liked the ending from the moment I spliced it together. I'm probably just a bit tentative because it's such a unique video.
