JOURNAL: Damaramu

  • Slowly, but surely... 2005-06-13 08:39:06 I've uploaded three of my videos to the local server, making them once again available to the public. It's been something like two years since they were downloadable, so it feels sort of like I'm releasing them all over again. Of course, they could have been available much, much sooner had I not been so utterly lazy.

By the way, if by freak chance someone reading this happens to have a copy of the two videos I haven't re-posted - "Assassin" and "Mindless & Violent" - I'd like to hear from you. All of my numerous copies of those files have gone missing.

I'd like to start doing videos again, though I'm not sure I can keep up with this new era of special effects. Then again, my videos were never about pleasing the masses. Ah, but my laziness will probably triumph again anyway..
  • Progress is Made Slowly 2004-04-15 06:11:29 There's a good chance the videos will be available again soon. I have a server once again, and I need only copy the files over and set up the portmap.

New videos? Let's take things one step at a time. I'm still busy, and lacking for creative direction.
  • Ambition Renewed 2003-07-19 08:15:30 A new hard drive should be coming shortly, so I can finally fix the server. In addition, I'm going to order some more DVDs on the premise that I'm going to return to making videos in the very near future. There are as many as six that I'd like to do, but we'll see how far that delusion goes. I don't see it happening that I'll suddenly more than double my video output. I've actually tried getting someone else into it recently - I might wind up doing some joint releases instead.

There's also one rant that I think I ought to get out, even though I'm sure it won't sound good:

I stopped even trying to make the popular happy/dancy kind of videos quite a while ago. It doesn't come to me naturally. Besides, there are others who make those videos quite well already. I'm more interested in pushing my boundaries in other directions.

That said, I don't appreciate it when a review comes in with nothing more constructive than "I didn't like it, it's not my taste". There's nothing I can take from that. Comments are supposed to be aimed at helping make a video better, and improving the creator's general technique. All a comment like that tells is is that you'd rather I focused my efforts on the style of video you prefer, which is simply not going to happen. I don't share your personal tastes, and that won't change no matter how hard you rap me on the knuckles. If you want to see more videos of a certain kind, make them yourself. That's what I do. If the only thing you have to say about a video is that you don't like the music, or that you don't like the mood, don't even bother writing a review. You're wasting everyone's time.

    ...

Just to be clear, I'm fine with handing out the "this isn't my kind of video" line as an explaination for a lowered re-view score. It makes sense that people aren't going to watch a video that isn't their taste as often. There's not much I can do about it, but at least I know. It's just that until recently, this would usually come up as a small part of a well-thought-out review that touched on many other points. However, when that line is pretty much the whole review you might as well just write "sux 2 be u! XP" for all I care.

    Until next time.
  • Videos are OFFLINE 2003-06-23 18:44:15 Unfortunately, my server just ate itself and I can't get it back any time soon. As a double misfortune, this site seems to have something against me editing my links until I input premiere dates. However, I don't consider any of my videos to have premiered. Maybe once I actually take them to a con.

The point is, you can't download the videos right now even though they're listed as online. I'll fix this eventually.
  • Somewhere out there, sanity 2003-01-31 03:55:02 Someone please tell me how it's possible that my X video has more downloads than hits? Did someone copy and paste the amv.org "direct" download link somewhere? (In which case, why didn't they think to remove the middleman?)

Or are downloads just failing partway through, forcing people to click the link again? Strange. Pointless, but strange.
