Koop's video is good. It's very technical. I just want to find out what sort of computer he is using and what video editing program. I want to match my new system to what ever he has. <grin> Then maybe I can make videos as good as he does.
For a moment or two I thought about quiting making AMVs.
AMVs are an art form. To compair your own art against someone else is very common. Then I thought about how just because he's painted the Mona Lisa, doesn't mean I can't still create a master piece like the Effil Tower. The hard part for people is to see such a great work and think that theirs will never be as good and for the most part it's true. However who says we can't expand to be the best in the artform in another area.
The main problem I saw with the video was it had far TOO MANY effects. It was trying to be artistic and deep piece but turned into digital fluff. I was to busy looking at the effects to appreciate the video and message it was trying to tell. This made me think about how I've been good at getting a message across in my videos, and that there is an art to simplicity.
Take for example my video: For Kaoru. A video most people would pass by, that was done in a matter of hours, however the message in it is so strong that it doesn't need flare or flash.
Knowing also the AMV communities mob mentality I fear the rush of AMVs that will be coming out from everyone trying to be like Koop's video. This happened after Tainted Donuts, all sorts of people splicing two different animes together. After Odakurii (however it's spelled) a rush of dance video, etc... So when I go to AX this next year there will be a bunch of digital master pieces. The simple videos won't get noticed I'm sure, but in time that will change I figure. People will be so bored by the flash of the effects, as I was by Koop's video. At one point I just snapped out of it and figured out that it was just a bunch of effects, and that it didn't have much subtance to it. People will see that to. You can only flash storbs in their eyes for so long.
So I'm going to continue to try and make simpler videos that convey strong messages. Then there is always Comedy which has a world of oppertunity to expand into.
As for quiting. Well maybe people also feel hopeless now about entering AMV contests, as I do. Because against such an impressive video you have no chance of winning you figure. The audience will be swayed by the effects, such has been the trend. However this will change in time. Just make your video as good as you can, without worrying about the effects.
Oh did I mention Baka Deshi Productions has a new member. The_Pixel_Pixie. Say that five times fast. I've also been helping her with her first videos. It's been a very rewarding experience. Made me remember where I was when I started, and the excitement that fills a new creator. If your thinking about quiting AMVs, take a step back and take a deep breath.
People harp on making AMVs for yourself. Sorry but we make AMVs because we want to, however we make them FOR others to enjoy. I always try to appreciate how the audience or the public will see the video. I don't make videos just for the audience, but they are kept in mind. I think that's where people are having problems. We all sort of know the audience is going to demand for awhile the technical aspects that Koop's video has shown. We want to make the audience happy, but we shouldn't sell ourselves out. We should still make videos we want to make. But we don't make them for ourselves in general. So don't yell at people who arn't making videos purely for themselves. If I made any sense?

Banners
2003-04-01 16:10:12
Okay I just made four pointless banners. I've been wanting to make them for awhile. They are simple. VERY VERY simple. Then the point is to read them. Almost like bumper stickers. They won't make it, but maybe someone will get inspired and make real cool banners off of my ideas.

I must thank - s today who without who's comment I wouldn't have made it through the work day. I'm ill but didn't figure it out till 10am this morning, and I took a vanpool into work today, so I had no way to get home. <sigh>
Oh here was her response to my comments in the journal below:
There is no word in the Elvish, Man or Entish languages (I almost wrote tongues)
that can describe the reaction I just had.
Besides, there is hardly enough room under my desk for my feet.
But there is a small conference room about 8 feet behind me....

Hehehehe. Oh and if anyone cares. Please nominate my video: Suichi's Question for Most Original Concept. Thank you.

You have any idea how difficult it is to keep a professional phone voice when you're unable to breathe?
- s
"What ARE you doing, that is making you unable to breath?" <Innocent look>
"Haldir isn't under your desk or something is he?" <Evil grin>
