you've been worn out like a cheap dress on the town...

I don't have anything interesting to say today, so I'll just talk about something very silly:
This morning, while driving to work, I was eating a wholesome, balanced breakfast of Wheat Thins in my car. Then I got to the parking lot, but I was still sorta hungry. At this point, I had two choices: sit in my car and eat for a few more minutes, looking like a dork, or bring the box with me into the office, also looking like a dork. Plus, if I brought them into the office, I'd have to suffer the indignity of having my box of Wheat Thins searched by the security guards (they inspect EVERYTHING now because of tightened security).
So I did neither and came into the office still hungry. That's been my day so far.
I do realize that I could have just grabbed a handful of them and eaten them while walking to the office, but like I said, this is a very silly story.

Wtf is up with me and filling up quotas this weekend? First, I had that fiasco with my webserver and forum...and now (after wondering why I wasn't getting email all weekend), I find that my Duke email account is full, too. <delete delete>
Well anyway, now I just suddenly got flooded with all the email that I couldn't receive all weekend.

Whoo, my profile just reached the 4000 hits mark. Too bad I didn't put anything interesting in there...
The weekend: Spent pretty much all of Friday night cleaning up my apartment for my parents' visit...then laundry, ironing (ugh).
Saturday: Phone call from Leandra woke me up early. Did a last-minute sweep of my apartment to make sure I didn't leave anything incriminating lying around (empty beer bottles, dirty syringes, bloody handcuffs, etc.), and then I got a call from my mom saying that they were still two hours away. So I ate a quick lunch and played a couple frustrating hours of Ico until they arrived.
First thing they made me do was hook up Jay's computer. He had 16000 infected files and needed me to do a clean install. He told me he had everything backed up and was ready for me to format his HD. So I did.
"Okay now Jay, where's your Windows CD?"
"Uh...didn't bring one."
"Fine, I'll use mine."
<install install blah blah blah>
I pull up device manager after it's done and find about 10 Unknown devices.
"Jay, give me your hardware installation software."
"Uh...I didn't bring any."
"Ooooookay...I can download drivers off the internet, I guess. What kind of hardware do you have?"
"Uh...dunno."
I opened up his case and was able to figure out most of it by looking at the hardware itself. I downloaded the drivers onto my computer (he doesn't have a modem) and pulled out my 4-port mini-hub.
"Alright Jay, give me your ethernet cord, I need to copy some files onto your computer."
"Uh...I didn't bring it."
"Didn't I tell you to bring all this stuff last week!??!"
"Probably."
My brother is a genius.
The whole process took me about 6 hours, with trial and error guessing of his hardware, plus long downloads on my 56K modem. I ended up burning a CD with all the files I needed to transfer. At the end his computer was up and running at about 90%. There was still one device that was simply identified as "Unknown device," which I couldn't do anything about.
My brother and parents watched Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on my TV during all of this. My brother wasn't impressed with either film; my mom still insists that the Chinese dramas she watches on satellite are better than CTHD. My mom then randomly joked about where she and my dad must have gone wrong as parents: one son with bleached blonde hair, the other with an earring and tongue stud.
Then I had to help my mom set up her new DVD player. I had told her about my new Macrovision and region-free Pioneer player, and she immediately ordered one for herself. I had spent a very frustrating hour on the phone with her Friday night, trying to explain the concept of "yellow output to yellow input, white output to white input, and red output to red input," but she still insisted that it wasn't working...so I just told her to bring her player when she came to visit. So after I was done with Jay's computer I hooked her player up to the TV exactly as I explained it to her, and lo and behold, it worked! It turns out that she hadn't been pushing the cables all the way into the connectors.
I love my family.
Then everyone was subjected to about half an hour of her testing her new player with a bunch of Chinese TV drama VCDs. Even my dad was heckling them, it was great :D
I finally explained the concept of AMVs to my dad...he had never had any idea why I sat at my computer for such long hours, or why I bought such expensive equipment for it. I showed him some of my work, and some other peoples' videos. Now he wants me to make a recruiting video for his company. He's going to get someone to run around his company with a DV minicam, then someone will record some voiceovers and send it all to me to work with. I wonder how the whole copyright thing will work if I use any popular music. Maybe I'll just stick with classical.
Then my parents retired to bed, and Jay and I sat up late watching Family Guy episodes on his newly working computer. They left early Sunday morning, and I spent most of the day being non-productive, though I did manage to finish capturing the second disc of Fushigi Yuugi. Only 6 discs left to go.
I WILL finish capturing Fushigi Yuugi this week! Even if it kills me! Even if it kills all of YOU! Muahahaha!
Leandra watched Snatch the other day...she said her favorite part was when Bullet-Tooth Tony was trying to kill Boris the Blade...she said it reminded her of the Black Knight ("Just a flesh wound") from Monty Python and the Holy Grail...is she not perfect? :)
K-PAX was pretty cool, by the way. Though I didn't like how the second half turned into sort of a standard psychological mystery.
Oh, and please read the entry below. Help me!

frail and bedazzled from all the glare...

Parents coming this weekend...along with Jay. Seems like it'll be a mostly pointless trip for them. They're arriving late Saturday afternoon, and they're bringing Jay's computer, which he needs me to completely wipe out and reinstall.
So...they'll get in, we'll have dinner, and then I'll have to spend the evening working on Jay's computer. And then they're leaving early Sunday morning.
I guess I'll have to put a DVD on the TV to keep them entertained, or something. Watched Snatch with my dad last time they came up. Nothing more disturbing than having your dad suddenly laugh out loud at the sight of Benicio Del Toro's severed arm wrapped in newspaper.
3 or 4 more video ideas this morning. Maybe I should just change my name to Sgt. Pepper's Productions from now on or something :Þ

i got back and sat on the edge of my bed...oh man, could I have a drag of that?

Congrats, EK! You'll have to let us know when the book comes out (although if it's from Harcourt, that probably means we'll have to steal a textbook from a younger sib or something :D)
Thanks for getting my pic done so quickly...
Whew, spent half a day setting up the stupid new forum on my webpage...it's at http://www.kusoyaro.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.pl and there are only like 5 posts so far. YaBB rules.
Time to go read up on some more radar technology.
