JOURNAL: Kusoyaro (Hsien Lee)

  • there are two colors in my head... 2001-11-29 11:39:01 EK: I've ALWAYS seen colors when I hear music. Or patterns of colors. It's an extremely strong sense, too. Sometimes it's very odd for me to watch a music video if the colors don't match my own perception of the music.

Heavier songs tend to be orange, or a fuzzy light gray laced with orange (sounds weird I know, dunno how better to describe it).
Spacier songs are usually light green sprinkled with white static.
Songs with a lot of textured, layered guitars are often purpled laced with varying reds and pinks.

Catchy pop songs tend not to evoke any colors though, for some reason. Normally, the more complex the song, the more vivid the colors. "Thru the Eyes of Ruby" by the Pumpkins evokes several different stages of colors throughout the song.
  • pennies for sale... 2001-11-29 10:09:37 Played some more MGS2 last night...I got to a boss battle where I play as Raiden, and Snake and Otacon are up in a chopper and I have to protect him from a Harrier. I'm supposed to run around with a missile launcher and shoot the Harrier with it. Well, I was tired and ready to go to bed, and I figured I was going to get my ass kicked anyway...so I started blasting missiles at Snake's chopper instead. It was hilarious...they started yelling things like "Damn you!", "What are you doing?" and "YOU BASTARD!" Then the Harrier got in my way, so I shot it a few times...and I realized I could beat it easily. So I did. And afterwards Snake congratulated me on a good job. Yay ^_^

    Erm....
  • unleash the armageddon...so all the children go to heaven... 2001-11-28 09:43:48 Listened to MACHINA/The Machines of God on the way to work today...that album is like a warm blanket to me. Especially the "fuzzy" songs like I of the Mourning, The Sacred and the Profane, and This Time. I also realized that I'm completely incapable of listening to With Every Light outside the context of the video...which kind of sucks, because that sort of ruins its association with the Pumpkins.

Watched Made last night...even with so many similar elements in place, it didn't have the magic of Swingers. Vince Vaughn's character was amusing at first, but after awhile his knack for always saying the exact wrong thing got excessive and unbelievable. The subplot with Jon Favreau's character's wife didn't really add anything to the movie, except for making one somewhat depressing scene...with JONATHAN SILVERMAN, of all people :) Where's Bernie?

Okay, time to actually go do some work now.
  • scratch my face with anvil hands...coil my tongue 'round a bumblebee mouth... 2001-11-27 15:20:13 Gee...I wonder if EK is as bored as me.
This morning, I showed a supervisor something that took me all of an hour to do yesterday (which is all I did yesterday).

Supervisor: Oh wow, that's great. That's really great. Tomorrow the hardware guy can come by and help you implement all of this.
    Me: Okay.
Supervisor: What I need you to do now is write down in words how you did all this, so we can include it in the documentation.
Me: Okay, do you need me to do anything else today?
Supervisor: Nah, that should be enough.
<half an hour and all of half a page later>
Me: (to myself) Well, that was fun. Now it's 10 am and I have nothing to do until 6. Wheeeeeee.

I can't stop listening to Untitled by the Pumpkins. That song is so damn UPBEAT!
The Pumpkins DVD was great...behind the scenes on every video, which was pretty cool. I almost threw up during the Try, Try, Try video though...I'd seen it before, but I had forgotten how fucked up it gets near the end. I guess that's what happens when a band says "Fuck MTV" and makes whatever video they want to.

I'm getting annoyed at always having to lock stuff up around here. Most of the stuff I work with is proprietary or classified, so I have to keep a lot of papers in locked drawers before I leave at night...security goes around at night and does random spot checks of peoples' desks to make sure nothing sensitive is left lying around. As a result, I now have 6 new keys for all my drawers, cabinets, etc. Takes me forever to find my apartment key.
  • planned a show, trees and balloons... 2001-11-26 13:34:45 Just got the SP greatest hits CD...I can't believe they cut out half of Drown. I haven't listened to disc 2 yet (LOVE the CD art), but I wouldn't be surprised if they hacked Aeroplane Flies High too (they already hacked the "The" out of the title). And they misspelled Rhinoceros...grrr. Now I'm wondering how much input the band actually had. They didn't like Virgin much after the Machina 2 fiasco.

Can't wait to go home and watch the DVD.
