  • A date with Dido.... 2001-12-03 21:53:17 Editing...

Back in the zone again for the first time since My Iron Lung.

Now I'm afraid that there won't be enough hours tonight...good.
  • nobody speaks english anymore...would anybody tell me if i was getting....stupider? 2001-12-03 11:54:27 Matt: I was gonna buy book two yesterday when I was at the bookstore, but the Harry Potter display was strangely absent of any copies of it. There were stacks of books 1, 3 and 4 as tall as the average elementary-school reader...but no Chamber of Secrets. Very odd.
And the local library just has a huge stack of book 4, everything else is always out.

One hour til a meeting...which translates into one hour til I have something to do.

Feel like crap today for some reason...feel like I've been up all night drinking, but the strongest thing I had to drink yesterday was some Diet Coke w/ Lemon...blegh :Þ
  • angels, barbed wire...fuck you, desire... 2001-12-03 09:42:57 Ah, the weekend. First of all, got my cable modem installed! w00t or something. The cable installation guy left me dumbfounded, though. After he got the modem hooked up, he asked for my Windows CDs and then spent nearly an hour trying to install some sort of software, with no luck at all. He was cursing and muttering at my computer the whole time, too. Finally, I walked over to see what the problem was...it turns out that he was trying to install Internet Explorer (which I already had installed, but he somehow overlooked on the Start menu) just so he could access a website and verify that my connection was working! He knew that I had Netscape the entire time, but explained, "I'm not familiar with that software and don't know how to use it." Wow.

Anyways, he leaves, and for the next two hours I'm going on a downloading rampage. Then, bleep, AIM gets disconnected and all my downloads suddenly die. I go and beat Metal Gear Solid 2, then come back. Still no connection. Later that night I call the cable company...and it turns out that Comcast tech support has a tier structure. When you first call in, you get "level 1", which consists of guys who don't really know anything...this is apparently for callers who have forgotten to plug in their cable modems or can't figure out why the ethernet cable won't fit into their 56K modem slot. Then there's "level 2", which has the guys who graduated from high school. Anyway, I spent an hour on the phone being shuffled along their different levels...and they made me check the connections on my modem and computer like 20 times, and stupid shit like that...all the while insisting that there was no outtage...until finally, some level 1 guy (how I ended up back at level 1 after an hour? no idea.) finally confirmed that there was an outtage in my area. One that ended up lasting 36 hours. Morons. Finally, I'm about to go to bed last night and the connection kicks back in! I decide to resist temptation and just go to bed...but then Leandra's sister Charlene IMs me and insists that I look at the beta of her new video! Then I finally collapse in my bed and pass out.

Oh, and Metal Gear Solid 2 is fucked up. At the end, I still wasn't sure exactly what was going on. And Snake giving that inspirational speech over live-action footage of Manhattan was just surreal. The game was fun, though...I logged 12 hours on the game clock, probably played about 20 hours total. I'd say that out of the 12 hours, maybe 4 hours was game, 8 hours was cut scenes...and Snake was only the main character for the first 2 hours. Almost done with Ico too, that game is too addictive, gotta finish it soon!

BTW, Duke whupped Clemson last night...sorry, Phade ^_^ Our team is looking incredible this year...even Daniel Ewing put in a good performance.

My take on Harry Potter: I didn't like the book by itself, and I probably wouldn't have liked the movie by itself...but together, I thought they complemented each other nicely. The book was written in relatively rudimentary prose (possibly because it was meant for kids), which just didn't have the vividness to draw me into its world. The movie, on the otherhand, supplied all the visual and aural stimulation that the book lacked, but without a lot of the detail that fleshes the plot and characters out. To put it in AMV terms, I guess I'd say the book is the music and the movie is the footage. I hear they're already filming the sequel...I'm guessing that's as far as they can go before the kids get too old...just look how well Neverending Story 2 and 3 did after changing lead actors. Then again, maybe that's because both sequels SUCKED.

Argh, I was supposed to work on my video this past weekend. I WILL put in some editing time this week ^_^
  • speed kills, but beauty lives forever... 2001-12-01 10:41:42 Cable modem, baby!

    Time to download AMVs.
