my teeth are razor sharp...

Listened to Machina again on the way to work...once again, I'm blown away by how incredible the album is. No one else out there can write songs like I of the Mourning, The Sacred and the Profane, or The Crying Tree of Mercury. These songs have no logical sense to them, they just shift flawlessly from musical innovation to musical innovation. Not like music I've heard on the radio nowadays where I can predict the next 5 chords before they've even played...god, I've even been able to predict the chorus before it came.
Massive editing last night...down to 30 seconds at the end to complete the first draft. I've never made such a dirty, sloppy draft before though. I figure it'll take me a 5-10 hour editing day (yay Sunday!) just to clean it up...making this a 25-30 hour editing job, not counting I-don't-wanna-know-how-many hours of capturing. I've had this video in my head for so long, and in so much detail, that editing is more technical than anything else. Had to cut another 10 seconds out of the song last night, running way too short on footage.
I decided after Iron Chef that alcohol and editing no longer mix...a couple beers used to help me back when I used Ulead, but Premiere takes too much of my concentration. Like operating heavy machinery, no Benedryl!
Going to DC tonight with Paizuri and one of his old friends at Duke that I never met...I think she works the door at a strip club or something...sounds sketchy :P I hate taking the Metro.

Put up the entry for my new video:

No download til after Katsucon, though. Video will be done on Saturday or Sunday, I believe.
Helped judge a small AMV contest for Nick Corbo last night...surprised myself by giving my vote to a FF8/Metallica video! I'd say it was one of the best video game AMVs I've ever seen. Some VERY good efforts by a couple of AMV newbies too, especially an Angel Sanctuary video.
Argh. The more I think of that Dark Tower 5 prologue, the more I feel like frothing at the mouth in anticipation of the books. Argh.
I say Roland of Gilead has enough badass in him to take on Spike, Jet, AND Vicious. Haha.
And I'm sure I owe at least $2 in fines at the library now...but every time I'm about to go return the books, I get drawn back to my computer to edit. Sigh...maybe I'll drag myself over there this weekend.

Damn you, Mr. King!!!!

I just read the prologue to book 5 of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King (on www.stephenking.com).
For 90% of it I thought it was just a short little anecdote set in the past, and it's ramifications wouldn't become clear until reading the rest of the books...but then on the last page, the bastard sticks in a wicked hook, and now I CANNOT WAIT for the last 3 books in the series to come out!!! He's supposedly going to release all 3 at the same time, and in 2 years time at the earliest. Damnit damnit damnit! I had to wait 6 years between books 3 and 4, and now it looks like it's going to be at least 6 years between books 4 and books 5, 6 and 7. Argh.

let roar these feelings...to the whore of my tears...

MCWagner: I'm forced to use Premiere now because of my hardware. And it came bundled, so luckily I didn't have to pay an exhorbitant price for it. I've decided that editing in Premiere is like trying to walk normally when you're staggering drunk; it takes all of your will, concentration and effort, but you're still not walking as straight as you would like to be. I've got about 1:20 done in my video, and nothing is timed the way it's supposed to be. I'm seriously wondering how all you people out there do tight timing in Premiere. Every time I try to do a precise edit in Premiere, it'll look okay when I do it, then when I look at it 5 minutes later, it'll turn out that it's completely off. Never had that problem in Ulead.
Okay, since everybody is no doubt tired of me bitching about Premiere, I'll say the one thing that I do like about it; it does make intricate layering and fading a lot easier than it was in Ulead. But that's assuming I can get the clips lined up and timed correctly in the first place :Þ
In other news...well actually, there is no other news, because as soon as I got back from work yesterday, I did my laundry, then worked on the video til I had to go to sleep. My plans for the weekend have fallen through, so now I'm looking forward to finishing my video this weekend. I think my current video is destined to go the way of "Film"; a video I love and am proud of, but that most people don't get because it's so lyric-driven and tells a specific story. That's how this new video is too...parts of it piece together scenes in a specific way in correlation with the lyrics to create an event that never existed in the original anime. I have a feeling that telling people to listen very carefully to the lyrics and to pay close attention to the story being told is like telling a casual opera-goer, "Oh hey, pay really close attention to the libretto, it's wonderfully written!"
Mmmm...I'm loving this whole tea instead of coffee thing. Nothing better than having a hot, invigorating drink first thing in the morning that DOESN'T make you feel sick to your stomach.

saturnine...how i love to waste your time...saturnine...

Well, the new video has finally gotten under my skin...and I guess I mean that in a good way. Now of course, this means that I can't stop thinking about the video until it's done. Which is going to make work hell this entire week...and I'll be losing sleep. And I might as well forget about hitting the gym this week too.
Premiere is really fucking slowing me down, though. I was telling Nick Corbo last night...had I had Ulead at my disposal during Iron Chef, I would have been able to finish the video with no black spots, better timing, and then I still would have had time to do a little dance and throw up in a trash can.
Jay's pleased that Dreams of Earth finally won something...his new band Makeshift is getting ready to start recording again. And he and Allison are talking about recording another song together. They're just going to have to take a backseat to the Beatles for now :)
