JOURNAL: Kusoyaro (Hsien Lee)

  • it requires an ability to judge distance...the aeroplane flies high... 2001-12-11 10:06:14 EK: Well, I'd *seen* a lot of it, just hadn't actually *watched* it. A friend at Duke had it, and someone was watching it in his apartment while everyone was there hanging out. So I caught glimpses of it now and then and thought, "Hey, that's crack! That would go great with a Radiohead song!" I'd wanted to use My Iron Lung for like a year, so it wasn't too great of a stretch. I have no idea what's going on in the show, though...when I was capturing, I didn't bother to plug in the sound, which didn't make things any easier.

Oh, and go ahead and send the mp3 to my Duke address (you have it, right?) and I can listen to it when I get home tonight.
  • i've got a girlfriend, she goes to parties...underground parties, andy warhol everywhere.. 2001-12-11 09:26:45 Hmmm...I could read about 1/2 of Ken Shimazu's journal, but I understood just about none of it. So rusty.

Anyways, I'm putting my new video online for 2 or 3 days. Here's the download link:

    The .ORG link is here:

DON'T leave opinions yet, please! This isn't the final version of the video..granted, most of the clip placements are finalized, but I still want to make minor timing adjustments here and there...and I think I may knock the ending sequence from 9 layers down to 4 or 5 layers, because there's too much and you can't see what's going on. So...it's not the same version of the video that'll be online once I'm ready for opinions. However, if you have feedback, I'd appreciate it if you could mail it to me at kusoyaroproductions@hotmail.com. I plan to do the final tweaking of this video next weekend, so any comments would be really helpful.

On another note...my brother Jay is going to do an AMV, and god help us all. He's got typical newbie fever:
"I like this anime (Love Hina) and I like this song (overused System of a Down song that's not Chop Suey), so I'm going to put them together in a video!"
"Jay, but that video wouldn't make sense."
"Well, I'll MAKE it make sense!"
"Jay, how about <other song choice> or <other anime choice>?"
"Didn't you hear me? I'm only making this video because I love both the anime and the song!"
    "You're an idiot, Jay."
    "Oh, mom says hi."
    "Oh, okay."
"I'm going to go watch 'Down to Earth' now."
"I can't believe you rented that."

He's become the biggest Love Hina fanatic...I should have seen it coming...he watched all of Marmalade Boy, Fushigi Yuugi and Maison Ikkoku in like a week's time, and he's been wanting me to get my hands on KOR for him. He still claims he's not an anime fan, that he just likes "a select few shows." He absolutely refuses to watch anything that doesn't have both romance and comedy.

Anyways...I'll spend the rest of this week watching the rest of Ayashi no Ceres, then I can start on the video during my vacation. I need to get into a better habit of watching the anime before doing the video...still haven't watched FLCL yet ^_^
  • Devil's Dictionary 2001-12-10 11:50:18 Damn, Ambrose Bierce was one funny (and insightful) motherfucker.

    http://promo.net/cgi-promo/pg/cat.cgi?&label=ID&ftpsite=ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/docs/books/gutenberg/&alpha=992

His definition of achievement is oddly relevant to the AMV world:
ACHIEVEMENT, n. The death of endeavor and the birth of disgust.

    Some others I liked:

ALLIANCE, n. In international politics, the union of two thieves who have their hands so deeply inserted in each other's pockets that they cannot separately plunder a third.

AMNESTY, n. The state's magnanimity to those offenders whom it would be too expensive to punish.

ARREST, v.t. Formally to detain one accused of unusualness.

BAROMETER, n. An ingenious instrument which indicates what kind of weather we are having.

BEG, v. To ask for something with an earnestness proportioned to the belief that it will not be given.

BELLADONNA, n. In Italian a beautiful lady; in English a deadly poison. A striking example of the essential identity of the two tongues. (Ooooh, ouch ^_^)

BRIDE, n. A woman with a fine prospect of happiness behind her. (Annnnd...score one for the ladies!)

BRUTE, n. See HUSBAND. (Make that two...)

Yep, I'm only up to the B's :) This is such a gem...I've had a copy at home for years, dunno why I never opened it.

  • take me onboard that beautiful ship...show me the world as i'd love to see it... 2001-12-10 11:32:03 Oh, for those of you who get bored at work easily and like to read quality stuff, Project Gutenburg (http://promo.net/pg/) is a godsend.

I've spent most of the last couple of slow work days reading Dracula.
  • amphetamine annie dog...has a leash...and a face... 2001-12-10 10:21:51 Hmmm, weekend...

Well, Friday I left work early and headed down to the Metro stop...randomly ran into Paizuri and Iris at the Metro Center, which saved me the trouble of having to find them. And they didn't "lose" me at the first turnstile...it took me a while to find my Metro card in my wallet, so they were already on the giant escalator by the time I got through. That escalator is freaky...it must be 100 meters long, and the angle is terrifying.

Then we got lost a few times trying to find the Ruth Chris Steakhouse...food was great, though I can't believe it cost me $64!!! Seared ahi tuna...mmmmmmm....
Of course, that means I'm not going to spend more than $5 on a meal for the next two weeks :P
We tried unsuccessfully to find a theater showing Mulholland Drive, so Andy suggested Fat Girl. I think he was sort of joking at first, but then Iris read a good review of it and decided she wanted to see it too. I figured that no matter what, it couldn't be worse than the OTHER movie Iris wanted to see (The Wash!!), so I went along.
We had an hour to kill, so first we went to Books-a-Million, where I bought Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Then Iris decided to take us to her old DC abode...this ended up being in a neighborhood where all the doors and windows had bars, and I swear at least some of those houses must have had shotguns by the door.

Then we saw Fat Girl. It was kind of jarring at first because I didn't know it was going to be a French film. I was expected something darkly comical like Welcome to the Dollhouse, but it was...um...well...it was very European. And it had a shocking, brutal ending that came out of nowhere. Yeah.

Iris was interesting and funny, and man, the things we were saying about Paizuri when he wasn't around ^_^
Iris: Man, he's been in the bathroom for a REALLY long time!
Me: Yeah, when he finally comes back, make a comment about him walking a little bow-legged.
    Iris: <starts laughing wildly>
    Andy: <comes back looking a little confused>

Took me 2 hours to get home, between waiting for Metro trains and driving home from the Metro station. Got home, talked to Leandra, did some quick editing on my video, went to bed.

Saturday: Woke up just in time to get to the post office to mail off some X-mas stuff...got home just in time to watch Duke give U of Michigan a brutal ass-whooping, then edited until 2 am, with occasional breaks to watch TV, eat, and talk to Leandra.

Sunday: Did some X-mas shopping, cooked dinner for myself, talked to Leandra, edited, went to bed.

Pretty dull weekend aside from Friday, but I'm pleased at the work I got done on my video. Last minute touching up should finish it off tonight. Then I'll let it sit for a week before going back to it for a couple more hours of tweaking, then I can start thinking in detail about my next project. I think I'm rearranging the order a bit...it's going to be Ayashi no Ceres, then (FINALLY) finish Karekano, then the indefinitely long slew of Beatles projects.

Some mixed thoughts on the new video so far from my friends...they agree it's well-made, but my old roommate pointed out that people may not *like* the video, because they won't enjoy seeing the characters in the light that I depict them. Ah well.
