JOURNAL: Kusoyaro (Hsien Lee)

  • the crowd roars...they ruined and repaired me...the rest you know... 2002-03-25 09:09:05 EXHAUSTION.

Got back at 1 am from Dallas last night, went to bed around 3. I'm a fucking zombie today, and not a Shakka one at that.
Weekend recap: First meeting with Leandra's fam...well, kinda. Second *actual* meeting, first meeting as Leandra's boyfriend. They didn't remember me at all anyway. Took them out to dinner, went to church with them, and then got treated to lunch (dim sum, hooyeah!).
Church was an interesting experience. I'd never been to a church service in my LIFE. I had no idea what I was doing, and said "What do I do now?" every 5 minutes to Leandra. Not to crap on anyone's religion, but I felt really silly standing around holding a palm in my hand and listening to a Vietnamese FOB priest mangle bible passages. Leandra and I couldn't help snickering at the priest (she's not Catholic either, she just goes occasionally to humor her family), so we're probably both going to hell...if there is one. I was vaguely annoyed when the priest said that whatever pain we might suffer in our lives, Jesus suffered more. Hell, I know *I* haven't suffered more, but that's still infuriatingly presumtuous. I think Leandra's sister Charlene summed it up last night: "I don't like church. It makes me sleepy."

    Fun with digital cameras:

Leandra pointing the camera, me trying to keep my eyes on the road. (yes, Leandra got her braces LATE...as in two months ago!)
Hmmm, she'll kill me for posting that picture online because she looks weird in it. Here's a better one:

Don't ask me why my hand is in a feel-the-baby-kick position. It just is.

    Strangest event of the weekend:
A CD literally VANISHING into a 4-disc changer.
I'm jamming to New Order (in slot 1) down I-635 from the airport on my way to Garland. I decide to test a CD I made for Leandra in slot 2. I play a track and it works, so I go back to slot 1 to listen to New Order some more. ::whir whir whir click click click rattle rattle:: I panic and press the eject button about 10 times. ::sputter sputter click click::, and it spits my New Order CD back out. Now slot 1 reads "no disc," which is just fine. I go to slot 2. "No disc." Uh.....okaaaaay. Slot 3, "no disc," slot 4, "no disc." Against my better judgement I try sticking the New Order CD in slot 2. It works! I try the other 3 slots, and they work, too! So there's a CD mysteriously lodged somewhere inside the player, but all 4 slots still work. WTF?? The car rental company refunded me all of $14 for my trouble. Yay or something.

Here's an amazing coincidence that Paizuri pointed out to me:

First, an inane conversation between Paizuri and I on his message board (Andy = Paizuri, andymom.mp3 = me)

And then 3 months later, this movie comes out!

    That's just spoooooky.

A-Kon prospects are looking better now, but my credit card bill currently exceeds my bank balance, which is NOT GOOD. And I refuse to pay credit card interest!!!
  • i get knocked down...but i get up again... 2002-03-22 10:39:30 EVERYBODY has come into my cubicle to gloat today. I've been emailed photos, articles, even animated PowerPoint presentations!

My Duke flag is hanging in my cubicle at half mast today. Ah well. Next year.

I ish leaving work in an hour. Wahoo!

  • and they all know me by my car.... 2002-03-21 08:26:50 Watched Training Day last night...it was pretty good in general, although an absolutely ridiculous coincidence during a vital scene nearly ruined it for me. Washington's character's motivations weren't always clear, either. He just seems to suddenly decide to screw Ethan Hawke for no discernable reason. And you'd think that, being as street smart as he was, Washington's character would have known what was up when that white van pulled up next to him near the end. Washington did a damn good job of being a badass mofo, though.

Ick. The Duke/Indiana game starts at 1, and I'm just going to have to follow it using ESPN's real-time score update. If it gets close I'll be going crazy over here.

Kwasuck - My roommate freshman year in college saw Good Will Hunting, and then went out and bought an Elliot Smith CD...and that's all I heard from his CD player for the rest of the year. Fair trade I guess, all he heard from me that year was Pumpkins, James Iha, and anime soundtracks.

EK - When I posted that thread about Laid, somehow I wasn't the least bit surprised when you mentioned that you love that song as well...
  • boys in the girls room...girls in the men room... 2002-03-20 09:04:35 Welp, I've got my first design review coming up in an hour. Me in a room with my boss and two senior engineers for 2-3 hours. 'Twill be scary. Then again, I'm not helping matters by mischievously slipping in a random PowerPoint slide with a huge picture of Jason Williams...with my boss being a Maryland graduate, and both engineers being die-hard Maryland fans :D

    I wish I could find a way to murder Wednesday, Thursday, and maybe just lop off Friday below the waist (you know, those pesky morning and afternoon hours). And uh...to the user named Wednesday on this site, no offense ^_^;;

Looks like my travel plans for the next 3 weeks are finally confirmed! Dallas this weekend, then down to Duke for Final Four weekend with Paizuri and RYS the next weekend, and then up to Poughkeepsie, NY with Paizuri and RYS the weekend after that to visit StealthVisions and crew.

What is it about Elliot Smith that makes you want to fall asleep, cry, and spin around in a windy spring meadow all at the same time?

I finished reading Kevin Smith's "Superman Lives" script. Wow. All I can say is, TIM BURTON IS A FUCKING IDIOT.

Anyway. Time to do some last-minute preparation for my review.
