Anyway....rode down on Friday with Paizuri, listened to The Pillows, Marcy Playground, Pizzicato Five and some other random stuff. We got to Duke in time for the tail end of the anime meeting. Only problem - time-locked door. Our friend Ron was stuck outside with us, so we called anime club prez Bryan on his cell phone to come out and let us in. Seconds later, he flies out of the door so quickly that our yells for him not to let the door close are too late. So now the four of us are all locked out. Eventually we got in, and then we left right afterwards to go say hi to some friends in the Japanese dorm. Then we went to some shady 24-hour diner to grab food, and then back to Dave and James' apartment for some Skyy Blue (okay) and Bacardi Silver (NASTY).

Saturday - had some truly gawdawful pho at the Vietnamese restaurant near Duke. Then we all headed to the gym to play basketball. During the game I was told that my new computer (my main reason for going down to Duke) was NOT going to be ready for me to pick up. And that this had been known well before I left for Duke. She's since offered to mail it to me this week. But:
    1. Last time she mailed her aunt's computer via USPS, it got completely fucked up.
    2. Last time Quu had a computer mailed via UPS, it got completely fucked up.

But anyway...thanks to basketball, I'm barely able to walk today.

Then dinner, which was the most amusing part of the weekend. About 10 of us went to a Japanese/Chinese restaurant called Golden Garden. 7 decided to order Chinese food, and myself, Paizuri and our friend Charles decided to get sushi. We were each given a sushi menu, and we simply marked what we wanted and put our names at the top of the menu. I decided to be stupid and wrote "Howie" on top of mine. Taking a cue from me, Paizuri labelled his menu "Jimbo." Charles wrote down "Joe Bob," which was probably a BAD idea. And then the WAITER headed behind the sushi bar and started making our sushi! Not surprisingly, everyone who ordered Chinese food got their food at least 15 minutes before we did.

Anyway, we're waiting, and waiting, and finally two small platters of sushi arrived. "Howie and Joe Bob," announced the waiter. Naturally, Paizuri was laughed at for being the only one without food. Then another platter of sushi came, and we naturally assumed it would be for "Jimbo." Nope, it was for "Howie." At this point, I was thinking, "Damn, I must have ordered too much." Another platter came, and this time it was for "Joe Bob"! Now Paizuri's getting concerned. Finally, the last 2 platters came out, and we figured they were both for "Jimbo." Nope, "Howie and Joe Bob," said the waiter once more! I was so full I was about to explode by now, so I gave mine to Paizuri...except that it was all stuff that *I* had ordered, and he didn't want most of it. So Paizuri got no food that night. By that time we had to rush back to watch the Maryland/Kansas game. Poor guy.

And then the fucking Terps won the game. At least we had a lot of tequila and scotch to get us through it. The rest of the weekend was pretty uninteresting, I think. Drinking, eating and watching TV, basically.

Time to go pay my rent and get some lunch.
  • if i speak at one constant volume at one constant pitch at one constant rhythm right into your ear you still won't hear.... 2002-03-29 09:54:01 God, Friday mornings are fucking boring. In the spirit of slow Fridays, today I'll be taking a long lunch and leaving early. This weekend I'll be picking up a TON (I mean, a TON) of source for my DDR video. I'm staying at the house of the guy with the biggest anime collection I've ever seen, and there will be mad mooching going on. I've decided my DDR video isn't going to have much of a theme beyond just being a fun, happy, hyper video. Lots of girls, limbs flailing, arms akimbo (inside joke)...

  • i would like a place i could call my own...have a conversation on the telephone... 2002-03-28 10:10:31 Argh. Yesterday's subject line stretched the display window, which I hate. So for the readers' benefit I made that entry private, and for my own benefit, I posted a bunch of junk private entries so it would get bumped to the next page.

EK, I don't know if you read my now-hidden journal entry from yesterday, but I basically whined about a similar feeling. I can't really attribute the feeling to anything though...I guess I'm just sort of stuck in a laziness-begets-laziness/boredom-begets-boredom sort of rut. Don't feel like doing anything at work, don't feel like editing, don't feel like going out. Last night consisted of going to the gym, going home, watching "Back to the Future II" on TBS or something, and then watching "Bound" on DVD (pretty good movie, BTW...people think it's just softcore lesbian crap, but it's not). And the entire time I felt like I should be doing something else instead. This is what I said to Akimbo the other night:

"Every time I think about my Trigun video, I don't want to think about it."

That just about sums up how I feel nowadays.

Heading down to Duke with Paizuri tomorrow. Maybe that'll give me the kick I need. A weekend with the old college gang, playing basketball in Wilson gym, rooting for Kansas (or rather, rooting AGAINST Maryland) Saturday night, maybe hitting the tail end of a Duke anime club meeting, and possibly even getting some sushi for the first time since Christmas break. There's the conveyor-belt sushi place in Chapel Hill (that place RULES, as silly and sketchy as it sounds), or the half-price sushi place near downtown Durham. Nihon tabemono ga daisuki da yo.

Paizuri's got the right idea...taking a sick day every now and then as a random "mental health day." That would be great, because I don't have to make up sick days. I think I'd just feel too guilty the next day though, walking in and having everyone ask if I'm feeling any better.

Anyone remember the old Schwarzenner flick "The Running Man"? As a kid I loved that movie for it's Ah-nuldy goodness. But I always knew the premise was ridiculous...audiences wouldn't really want to watch people getting hurt and killed, would they? And even if they did, TV networks would NEVER, EVER provide that, right? But then I hear about sadistic game shows with names like "The Chair" and "The Chamber"...and just yesterday I read about a guy who almost drowned filming a new "reality game show"...so now I'm not so sure. The big TV networks can't show cursing, nudity or fake graphic violence, so they show real people being tortured instead. It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.....

A few more aborted video ideas. These are all at least a year and a half old, and some of them have been mentioned in the forums:

Ack. I wrote out about half of them and then decided against posting them. Meh.
