  • i'm on the phone...what do i see...a liquid picture's crooked transparency... 2002-04-30 14:40:15 ...long story short, the new computer doesn't work. My friend who built it didn't catch all the IRQ problems the DV500 was having...same issues which cost me nearly a year of editing when I was using the DC10. I don't have time to dick around though, I need to get my DDR2 video done. So I'm just pulling the DV500 and putting it back in my old comp, and simply using the new comp as storage space until I get this whole deal straightened out. At least I managed to get the two computers networked, though only the old one can access the internet. I listened to Dub-I-Dub for an hour during lunch, and I've finally got a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do. I've never made a bounciness for bounciness' sake video before (and I mean bouncy as in happy and effervescent, not bouncy as in...well, you know), so this should be fun.

  • as the fenris wolf slowly bites through his chain...tryto hide the myth as it becomes a man... 2002-04-29 11:33:49 My lord. I logged 28 hours on Final Fantasy X this weekend, building up my characters and attempting to complete side quests. When did all these side quests get so ridiculous and tedious? I remember in FF6, a side quest consisted of flying to a remote island and picking up Gogo. Now, I find myself spending hours going to all the different continents and catching like 100 monsters just so I can get *one* of three items vital to *one* character's Ultimate Weapon! Which coke fiend over at Square decided that this shit would be fun? What genius decided that people who enjoy epic fantasy adventuring would also enjoy dodging lightning strikes or catching balloons with Chocobos for hours?

It was as I told my friend Tom: "This isn't even fun, but for some reason it's addicting." I think it's mainly that I've spent over 50 hours with these characters already, and it's gratifying to see them becoming super-powerful.
But I assure you I didn't have any fun during the two futile hours I spent racing around on a Chocobo.

What I find most mind-boggling is that most of these side quests aren't even logical things you can just figure out or stumble upon. For the most part, you HAVE to look up a guide or FAQ to find them because they're so random. That's just stupid to me. I mean, who's going to just randomly decide to sit there and dodge lightning 200 times in a row? Or play Blitzball hundreds of times just in case some really vital item comes out of it?

I can't believe I'm ranting about a video game. I'm such a nerd. But don't get me wrong, I love FFX. It's easily the most fun I've had playing a video game since FFVI. I've logged a total of 78 hours on it so far, and with all the previous FF games, by the time I got up to around 30 or 40 hours, if I wasn't done with it yet, I usually just quit playing.

Anywhoo....I'm finally picking up my new computer after work today. Once I get home I need to output my A-Kon video and get it mailed out TOMORROW. I'm psyched about getting this new machine, especially since my old one is on its last legs. I'll finally be able to edit again! And without the crappy lag that was stifling me during my last two efforts!

I finished watching the first DVD of Princess Nine. I liked it enough that I'm going to keep buying it. No actual baseball so far, but it's fun meeting the players. It's the fun, charming stuff like this that makes me miss anime. I was always more of a Marmalade Boy person than an Escaflowne person.

Parents coming into town next weekend...sigh, that basically means my weekend is shot. I was looking forward to seeing Spider-Man, too. It also means I have to spend the week cleaning. Urgh. They're going to freak when they see my new computer set-up, too. "Why do you need two computers and three monitors? How many games do you need to play at once??" To my parents, more computing power == more gaming capability. Yet I'm fairly certain that they haven't actually witnessed me playing a game on a computer since I was in middle school. Argh.

All my travel plans for the next month are finally solidified; flights and hotels are all booked for Vegas and A-Kon. Aside from maybe a trip or two to Dallas in the summer, my next major travelling will probably be AWA.

  • goodbye sober day...hello milky way.. 2002-04-26 13:11:33 "Welcome, Kusoyaro.

    Scary.

I hate work this week. Or rather, I hate the work I've been assigned to do for this week.

Yum. Pud Se-Eu for lunch. Thai take-out rules.

Computer has arrived! Unfortunately, I can't pick it up from UPS until Monday. I'm excited though, I'll be able to start my DDR2 video next week! And then I guess I'll go back to the Trigun video.

I fucking hate allergies. Used up an entire box of tissues this week at work.
  • hey mister...i really like your daughter... 2002-04-25 12:21:13 Bring your kids to work day. Ugh.

Internet here is slower than usual, what with all the kids messing around on the computers while their parents do work.

Eating bread that's been baked and potatoes that have been fried apparently poses a cancer risk:

Might as well all accept that everything is going to cause cancer. I hear about so many new findings about cancer-causing agents on a weekly basis that I'm not even surprised any more. I mean, it's just a matter of time between they find that red blood cells contain a cancer-causing agent, right? :P
