Hrm. I think I have 3 or 4 "mainstream" videos left in me...mainstream meaning that some viewers might actually *enjoy* them. After that I have a few experimental videos I'd like to try. I probably won't even bother to send those to cons, since there's zero to super-zero chance of any audience actually liking them. They'd just end up on the overflow list anyway. This isn't one of those declarations of eminent retirement, though...I have no intention of quitting any time soon. I'm just planning to make some "different" videos after I finish up my AWA videos. Hell, if I get my crap together, I might even have one of the oddballs done in time to show at AWA--if anyone will show it, it'll be them. After that.....who knows, maybe I'll regress and do some Weird Al to Tenchi :P
EK - in response to an older entry, Ugly Girl was #2 for me. My first video was an uber-crappy video that I did to one of my brother's older songs. My panel at AWA '00 is the only place it's ever been shown publically, I believe...and that was mostly for laughs and groans. But I do believe that I finished Solitude (video #1) and started and finished Ugly Girl all in the same day. Blegh.
I was going to go to the gym today to make it a record-shattering 3 days in a row, but sitting here at work doing nothing all day has made me super-unmotivated. Ironic, eh?
Tonight: Cleaning the FUCK up, then capturing some sugary, bouncy anime clips if I have time.
Rest of the weekend: Entertaining my parents and trying to convince them that my recent purchases of expensive electronic equipment have NOT been a waste of my money.
This is heartbreaking: (though the last verse rubs me the wrong way)
Hush me, touch me
Perfume, the wind and the leaves
Hush me, touch me
The burns, the holes in the sheets
I'm hoping the smoke
Hides the shame I've got on my face
Cognac and broken glass
All these years I've been your ashtray
I found a pink cigarette
On the bed the day that you left
And how can I forget that your lips were there
Your kiss goes everywhere, touches everything but me
Hush me, touch me
Champagne, your hair in the breeze
Hush me, touch me
Lipstick, a slap on my cheek
Your eyes cried at last
Told me everything I was afraid to ask
Now I'm dressed in white
And you've burned me for the last time
You'll find a note and you'll see my silhouette...
There's just 5 hours left until you find me dead
There's just 4 hours left until you find me dead
There's just 3 hours left until you find me dead
There's just 2 hours left until you find me dead
There's 1 more hour and then you will find me dead
There's just.....................
Actually, now that I read it, it's not as poignant as I thought. But the song itself certainly is.

Okay, somebody explain this to me:
I go to the Thai take-out place to get some noodles for lunch and ask for chopsticks. The guy says they're out of chopsticks. Perfectly understandable. He apologizes, then offers me TWO FORKS instead! What the hell? Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad or anything (what is there to be mad about?), just very very confused.
But anyway....the noodles are exquisite today.

EK - I saw you on a panel right around when I first started. By that time you had already won something at the AWA before, and had made Sledgehammer. I had made...*ahem*...Ugly Girl. Being brand spanking new to AMV creation and watching experience AMVers host a panel definitely gives off sort of a fanboy vs. veterans vibe. To me, at least.
You're picking CDs off my rack? All right! I've always wanted to see a Cowboy Bebop video to DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince! Ahem, sorry...my CD collection goes back a looong ways, okay? :D
I WILL write you more about your beta tonight...got caught up in capturing/editing last night.
God, I have so much cleaning to do before my parents arrive Saturday morning. Right when I'm getting all excited about my new video and wanting to spend every spare moment on it, too.
Dagnabit! Kyburg gets pho, and EK gets falafel, while Hsien gets....turkey sandwich.
I survived a meeting with the program manager from hell today! I left it with all my limbs intact, and a whole assload of work to do for the next 2 weeks. Dish shucks ash.
Dub-I-Dub-I-Dub-I-Dup-Bup-Bup....

Played around for an hour on my DDR video:
http://www.kusoyaro.com/yermom/2.avi
I know the timing needs some work, and I need another cut during the scene with Sae on the bike...but all in all, I haven't had that much fun editing since My Iron Lung. Certainly, maintaining that level of energy for 3 minutes is going to be a tall order, but I think this is going to turn out to be a lot of fun to make and (hopefully) a lot of fun to watch.
Time for bed.

EK - grabbed your beta and gave it a quick look (wait...that doesn't make sense, how do I watch a video quickly?) before work this morning. I went "Ahhhhhh!" (in a good way) when I heard the song ^_^ Anyway, I'll watch it more and write up a more detailed critique either tonight or tomorrow night, but you actually had me wanting more...I wanted to see what would happen once the first drum beat hit. I like the thing you're doing with the colors, though I can't imagine how much work that must be taking.
*sniff* my cubemate Jen is moving out! She just couldn't take me playing "The Air-Conditioned Nightmare" on repeat all day! Nah, actually, she got lucky and found another assignment to rotate to, which all the other new employees in my department were also trying to do. She's definitely the best of the 3 cubemates I've had so far at this company, so it'll suck when she leaves.
I realized yesterday that I've been making AMVs for almost 3 years now. My first video was some time in May of '99. That probably means I've been doing this for longer than a good number of the people reading this (in fact, I can probably NAME the few people who aren't in those ranks), but I still feel like a n00b...especially in the face of creators I looked up to before I started my own videos, such as EK, Duane Johnson, or Lee Thompson. I still feel like a fanboy when I talk to them ;_; But looking back, 3 years is a long damn time to be doing anything, at least for me.
Did some capturing for DDR2 last night. It's really difficult to capture footage you've never watched before, because EVERYTHING is out of context, and EVERY scene you see is new and unfamiliar, and you don't know what to focus on. It's especially bad because the audio loopback thing isn't working, so I can't even hear it. I know, I know I vowed not to make any more videos to shows I haven't seen...but this is a unique case, I think, being DDR and all. It's not as much about artistic self-expression as putting fun images to fun music. I don't normally watch the kind of happy, bubbly stuff that I'm using as footage, so that's an excuse too ^_-
I am positive that I am getting close to blowing a fuse or burning down my apartment building. I am sucking SO much goddamn power out of the outlets, and the messes of wires are so dense that when I tug on one wire, everything else comes with it.
This is the current train wreck site that is my living room:

There's a lot more that you can't see. I have to get all this crap cleaned up by Friday. And I'm trying to hit the gym a lot this week. Been eating like crap lately...my daily vegetable intake consists of a pickle slice. Daily fruit intake consists of...well, nothing, unless you count the flavoring in Pepsi Twist :P
i don't have a microwave.
it's just like i live in a cave.
a microwave is what i ain't got.
i just use an oven to get my food hot. and
you have things that i don't have.
you can make fun and you can laugh.
have the newest stuff - it's the new style,
i guess i'll just have to catch up with y'all in a little while.
they say that technology's gone far.
but i don't eve have a damn vcr.
i don't watch movies on my tv.
whatever comes on is what i see. and
i don't have a cd component.
it's just like i live in a tent.
they say tapes do not compare.
they sound good enough so i don't care.
you're not the only one
who wants all that's under the sun.
with the massive money i'll have,
i'll own all you motherfuckers...
