You are EEEVEEEL. Like the froo-its of the de-veel.....
  • yeah, how we gonna kick it? gonna kick it root down! 2002-05-07 13:55:34 Current song stuck in head - Poe, "Hey Pretty."

I was listening to a song for one of my upcoming videos on the way to work today. For some reason I suddenly envisioned it more clearly than I ever have before, and tears came to my eyes. (no, not the song currently stuck in my head).

    Last evening I actually bought a DVD for the sole purpose of using it as AMV source ;_;
But after going through it and capturing some clips, I'm glad I did. It's filling in a LOT of the lyrical/musical gaps that were worrying me, and not only that, it fills them WELL. More hardcore capturing for the rest of the week. This coming weekend will hopefully be an edit-til-I-drop marathon. I'm having a lot of fun with this DDR video, but I do want to get it out of the way so I can start on my AWA projects that I'm really psyched about.

For my next video I'm going to try ripping DVDs for the first time. I normally don't rip because I often use series that are pretty long (can you imagine ripping 52 episodes??) or I use short clips from multiple sources, which wouldn't be worth it. But my next video uses much shorter source, so hopefully in 2 or 3 weeks time I'll be read up on ErMaC's guides and be ready to rip! I finally have the HD space and processing power to do it, too.

Guh. Just cleaned about 400 emails out from my Inbox.

I just realized. I now have access to the video theater in Luca. And my PS2 is already hooked to my capture card. I am going on an FFX FMV capturing rampage tonight! ...well, if my party has enough money to purchase them all. I just want the one with the kiss in Lake Macalania (I think that's where it takes place...)

Oh. Howdy, Mr. Kyburg ^_^ If your wife has been making you eat an inadvertant amount of pho lately, that's probably my fault.

    So...Effing....bored at work today.

Eh...Suteki Da Ne is on my mind.
  • 2002-05-06 18:41:11 I've decided that, given the current atmosphere of the .ORG forums, 100% smart-ass is the way to go.

    Yeah.
  • there's a tall man, and he's so tall, don't see how he can get through the doorway... 2002-05-06 14:19:07 Weekend:

I thoroughly enjoyed Spider-Man on Friday night. I thought the best scene was the first appearance of the Green Goblin in the city...it left me breathless, and I knew I was seeing something special. Best of all, it *felt* like Spider-Man. X-Men was okay, but it didn't feel like the comic books.

My parents brought all my comic books from back home this weekend, so now I can read all my old Spidey comics.

Speaking of my parents, I have SOOOOO much food at home now it's not even funny. I won't have to pay for a meal for weeks! My mom came determined to teach me how to cook my ass off. First, we drove down to Langley Park to hit the Asian grocery store. I'd been there once by myself, but I had wandered aimlessly, not knowing what was what. This time, when I went with my parents, they pointed out everything I had missed. It turns out that the store had ingredients for most of the Chinese food I had grown up on. Then we went back to my apartment, and my mom made me watch her cook for like 4 hours. I believe that I picked up on most of it. We ate some of the food for dinner, but there was SO much left that my entire freezer was filled.

After dinner, I asked them if they wanted to do anything, and offered to take them to a movie or something. They just wanted to sit around and read newspapers. I was like, "You guys came all the way up here just to show me how to cook and to read newspapers?" Their reply was, "No, we just came here to see you." Parents. So I played FFX for a few hours. I'm just about ready to go beat the game now.

Then more Dub-I-Dubiness after they left yesterday. It'll be done by next weekend, unless I discover that I don't have enough source footage. In that case, I'll just have to mooch more off of Paizuri ^_^

    And now work.

    "Please change your password:"
"Error: Must be different from your previous 13 passwords."

13?? JFC! This is typical with how things are where I work. They're security fanatics, and with good reason, but still...ugh! I have accounts on like 20 different systems around here, and they ALL require password changes periodically, and they ALL have a certain repeat password buffer period. And NONE of them are coordinated with each other in any way, which means I have to change a different password every week or so. So I started here last June with the same password for about 20 different systems. Now, for those same 20 systems I have about 15 different passwords, and I CANNOT KEEP THEM STRAIGHT! We're also not allowed to write them down...security often goes through our desks at night to make sure we don't have any classified material lying around. And if all that isn't annoying enough, if you enter the wrong password a certain number of times, it locks you out permanently, and you have to call the IT department to get a password reset. That's happened to me more than once, sadly. It's embarassing. It also amuses me that they have full-time employees whose sole job is to help employees who have been locked out by the company's own security measures.

I should be crying while I laugh at movies like Office Space.

I got two really surprising emails today. Both good.
  • as long as there's a pool there's always a flirt...as long as there is school there'll always be homework... 2002-05-03 16:43:39 More aborted video ideas, most of these from late '99. Just thinking about them brings back the feelings of constant discouragement and hopelessness I had about the work I was doing. So, er...I guess there's a cheesy "never give up!" moral to that or something. Geh...

Faith no More - Surprise! You're Dead - Various
Basically, as much beat-matched hyper violence as I could pack into the song's running time, along with some lip-syncing. Ditched it because it was a stupid idea to begin with. Started work on "Bachelorette" instead.

Sarah McLachlan - Into the Fire - Flame of Recca
I spent a good deal of time editing a 6-minute remix of this Sarah McLachlan song down to about 3 minutes. I still listen to my edit nowadays and prefer it to the original version. It would have worked best with Eva ("Mother teach me to walk again..."), but even back then Eva was overused. Flame of Recca also had a strong, significant mother/son relationship in it, and the fact that Recca shot flames out of his hand was even better. I did a little work on this, but it just never really panned out.

    Coca Cola song - Various
Remember that awful Coca Cola song in the late 90's? The one that was like "As long as there's a beat there's always a drum, as long as there's fun there's always Cola Cola...doo dee doo doo doo..." Ahem. Yeah, I started doing a video to that song, using all the random Coca Cola product placements I could find in anime. There were a surprising number of them. Then I realized that what I was doing was lame. And then I stopped. I was young and stupid.

Namie Amuro - A Walk in the Park - Various
I don't really know how to explain this one. I know what I wanted it to be in my head, but it's one of those things where I can't articulate the idea sufficiently in words, so I don't bother trying. Needless to say, I gave up on the idea before even starting because I didn't feel like I had the cojones to pull it off. But at the time I wanted it to be my "magnum opus." Silly.

    Scatman - Various
This was one of my very earliest ideas, and I wanted it to be the ultimate dance video. Lots of tightly edited clips of characters dancing or doing things that looked like dancing. And that really insane scat singing was going to be meticulously lip-synced to a close-up face. Like the clip of Gendo that Brad DeMoss used for the "ANAKIN!" part of Ep One. I just sort of forgot about this one once other ideas came up.

Wow, neat little story today regarding a piece of email I got. Around late '99 my friend Ron told his high school buddy at some other college that his neighbor (me) was making AMVs. The high school buddy mentioned it to his roommate or something...and today, the roommate emailed me because he had just recently discovered that that neighbor was me, and he was really surprised. Pretty cool...

AD: That Ugly Girl thing has been shown more times in the past 3 AWAs than I care to remember. But I'm pretty sure Solitude has only ever been shown at my panel.

/me is gone for the weekend. (I hate IRC)
