JOURNAL: Kusoyaro (Hsien Lee)

  • Oh hey, FUCK. 2002-05-14 20:18:02 Evidently, FUCK.

And on the other hand, FUCK.

What's what? One more time? FUCK.
  • save me...the heavens have opened... 2002-05-14 12:31:45 Hmmm, thanks for all the feedback from those of you who feel as frustrated with editing as I do nowadays. Good luck to us all, I guess.

Anyway, more out of duty than real enthusiasm (deadline is in two and a half weeks), I sat down to hack together some more clips for my DDR video last night -- and ended up actually enjoying myself. I put together 15 solid, energetic seconds worth of footage, and I was actually chagrined when my clock indicated that I had to go to bed if I didn't want to wake up exhausted this morning. I like those 15 seconds more than the entire minute that comes before it. My editing "groove" seems to come and go.

I'm nervous and excited about my next video. The Photoshopping that EK did for me many months back is still stewing on my hard drive, and I'm getting antsy about finally getting to use it. Hopefully, by next Sunday I'll have my DDR video done, burned to CD, and all ready to mail to Quu. Then I'll start learning to rip DVDs :P
  • your lips say one thing but the drugs say another...how can I massage this inter-galactic ulcer... 2002-05-13 14:32:40 I am SO tempted to take a "mental health day" and just call in sick one of these days. I'm sort of in a catch-22 about it, though...I can't really take a day off because it's a pretty critical time right now, and there's a SHITLOAD that needs to be done. At the same time, it's this pace and atmosphere that is making me need a day off. Argh.

A week and a half til Vegas...two and a half weeks til Dallas.

Lunch was roasted potatoes spiced with Old Bay. Heh. Only in Maryland.

I liked my DDR video a whole lot more when I only had 10 seconds of it done. Now, it's just a big 2:04-long pile of crap. Every piece of editing I put my fingers on seems to turn to crap nowadays. My "unfinished video sitting in pieces on my hard drive" count is now up to 5.

Editing certainly feels different nowadays. I used to be able to effortlessly pluck ideas out of my head and lay them into the timeline. Now, every single clip and cut is a struggle, and often a painful one. And more than ever now, editing is starting to feel like...work. I spend all day at work, then I come home, look at the ragged timeline, and feel stressed out. Ugh.

    Weekend:

Friday, got home and ate dinner, started editing around 7 PM. Around midnight I got fed up and started playing Final Fantasy X for a short break. After mucking around with sidequests for half an hour and getting frustrated, I tried going into the final area just for kicks. At 3 am I told myself, "Okay, just ONE more save point and then I'll go to bed." Less than 30 seconds later I found myself trapped in some bizarre ethereal cavern with icicles stabbing out of the ground.

"Oh shit, guess I have to beat the game now."

I didn't anticipate it taking almost 3 FRICKIN HOURS.

Anyway...I loved the game, but I thought the ending was pretty crappy. Some major time paradox stuff going on that they don't even bother to address.
Seymour's role in the end of the story was rather weak. Makes me wonder why they even bothered to put him in there. Probably just so they could have a human villainous character instead of just a big, growling monster.

    So. Crashed around 6.

Woke up late on Saturday and went down to College Park for some pho, then did some Chinese grocery shopping. Edited from 3 in the afternoon to about 8 in the evening, then I dropped by Rocky Run for dinner and a few beers. Then back to editing for a couple more hours. I finally got fed up (again), and decided to go back and play FFIX and FFVIII, now that I'm done with FFX. Those games seem so primitive now. Bah, I've been spoiled.

Sunday was pathetic. I spent half the day hemming and hawing about whether or not I even wanted to leave the apartment that day, even though I had plenty of things I had to go out and do. I ended up staying in and barely doing anything...couple hours of editing, couple hours of Final Fantasying, an hour of cooking and eating, and that was basically my day. What a waste of a weekend.

Well, that was all pointless. Why did I write it? Better yet, why did you read it? Nyah.
  • 2002-05-12 16:53:38 Wow.

I just made my mother's day phone call, and it turns out she's leaving at this very moment with my brother to take him to the airport in Atlanta. Evidently he's spending the summer studying abroad in China, and somehow I JUST found out about this.
Ah well. He promised to get me assloads of bootlegged goods, though ^_^
