Last night, I sent an old college buddy an mp3 of the song for my current video idea. I didn't tell him what the concept was, but upon hearing the song he informed me that I'll be balancing on a VERY fine line between making something laughable and making something possibly watchable. I can't wait to look stupid!!
Goddamnit. I can't find a single store in the area that sells the DVDs I need at less than retail price...and every reputable online dealer I know of is sold out of everything I need! So I can either wait indefinitely for these online stores to get more stock (and put off my video for weeks), or I can bite the bullet and pay retail price for 4 lousy DVDs.
Heading over to Ann's Dari Creme for lunch. Bwahaha.
Kendo class was fun last night, but damn are my arms tired now. Second class, and we're already hitting people. Since I am opting not to shell out $500+ for the optional armor, I can hit, but I cannot BE hit ^___^ It's great when you are given permission to strike someone on the head (4 times stepping forward, 5 times stepping backwards), and they actually tell you, "Hit me HARDER! This is good armor!" Of course, then I rotated on to the next person, and after a few hits, they told me, "Okay, don't hit me so hard. You're giving me a headache." Kiiiai!
Oops, I forgot to post this last night. Guess I'll do it today.
Man. I sucked yesterday. First, I went to a store and bought a DVD that I forgot was already on order (gotta go return it during lunch today, good thing I didn't unwrap it), and then I pissed away $35 by forgetting to pay my rent and incurring a late fee.
I mentioned the "video-phone" date that Leandra were going to try a few days ago. Well, for 2 days in a row, things kept coming up and she couldn't do it. Finally, yesterday, she was free, so I left work an hour early -- only to find that the fucking power in my apartment was out! So we talked on my cell phone, waiting for the power to come back on, which it did only after it was too late for her to watch the movie (family obligations). But we'd waited for so long already, so we watched half of it. Guess we'll finish it this evening.
The 50-year-old guy in the cube next to me is talking on the phone with somebody about Britney Spears. I don't know what he's actually saying, I just keep hearing that name along with "clothes," and "skin." Sheesh. - 2002-06-05 18:52:08 Ahahaha, I just noticed my damnation at the hands of EK.

AD: I DON'T ever storyboard, which is why I capitalized the word "storyboarded" in that last entry ^_^ I kind of decided that I have to for this one, though -- it has a very specific structure and chronology. I'm using a bunch of rather lengthy sources, so if I don't know where/when each character has to appear and such, it'll take me a year just to get through the capturing portion. If I just wing it, it'll turn into a huge mess. Not that it doesn't have huge potential for turning into a mess anyway ;_;
Right now it's looking like I'll have to buy 2-3 DVDs to fully flesh out my collection of sources for the video. Capturing will be a tall order -- nearly 200 episodes worth of sources to capture from, and I need to go through almost ALL of it. Thankfully, I don't think I'll be messing with many (or any) effects in this video, just a ton of lip-synching (it's not a comedy...exactly) -- my effects-crazy Trigun video will probably be held off until after AWA. Aside from the lip-synching, which will be a pain in the ass, I don't think the editing will be too bad. The timing will NOT be tight, the beats WON'T be matched to the action for the most part, because the intention is to give it a loose, natural, film-like feel.
EK: Don't you dare quit :) This current video actually had me thinking of quitting altogether. It is one I've REALLY wanted to do, but when I backed off from thinking about it for a while, it grew into a terrifying beast. It was rather strange...I thought about thinking about it (no, I didn't make a mistake there) constantly, and the more I did that, the more I felt like I couldn't do a damn thing.
Then, after bathing in Dntel and Chemical Brothers for a while this morning, I randomly switched on the mp3 -- and it all came rushing back. I MUST do this video, and now that I've really sat down and put something down on paper, I believe that I CAN do this video.
Put on your anti-cheese and sap helmets at AWA and prepare to be sickened!! Though it won't be as bad as "With Every Light"...at least, I don't think so. This one will actually go somewhere, and if you just randomly turn it off in the middle, you might actually get the feeling that you're missing something ^_^
Meh...I still have some captures from Yellow Submarine on my HD for a video I may or may not ever actually start ;_;

I am officially fully psyched up to start work on my AWA videos. So psyched, in fact, that I am sitting here at work STORYBOARDING the second of my two videos, one I will not start work on until July. I've almost got all the source for it now...just awaiting one of my friends to mail me another 16 DVDs (^_-), and I'm thinking I'll probably go out and actually *buy* one of the DVDs I need -- Paizuri has it, but I've been enough of a source whore for now :D
Very old-school selection of footage for this video...with one or two exceptions, these are all animes I saw within the first year or two of my anime fandom. I'm going to head to Suncoast during lunch and see what else is out there...I just need one or two other shows to round out the selection of animes. I'm almost tempted to use *Ranma*, but Phade is the only guy I know with a big enough DVD collection of it ;_;

I've decided...the video I just spent storyboarding will begin work this weekend. I'm so excited about this one...just came up with the PERFECT ending shot while listening to the song in the car.
Edit: The video that I *had* been planning on starting will start some time in July, I guess. While I'm working on this current one, I'll spend a little time learning how to rip a frickin' DVD, so I can actually DO that other one. - 2002-06-04 15:50:25 We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful.
