JOURNAL: GreyDuck (Karel Kerezman)

  • Nothing wrong with that 2002-02-11 15:51:26 EK: "Me? A completist? Faugh."

I wouldn't know anything *cough*Genesis*hack*MidnightOil*wheeze*PetShopBoys*cough* about that sort of thing, I assure you.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Beboppage. I (sort of) feel better.

    Must. See. Movie...
  • On second thought, damn THESE guys. 2002-02-11 15:29:37 I get some articles from InfoWorld emailed to me on occasion, Brian Livingston's "Window Manager" among them. Today's entry is... in a word, frightening:

"EVERY ONCE IN a while, a program comes along that
changes the way we use computers. Muvee AutoProducer
is one such program. It has a deceptively simple
purpose: With the click of a button, it makes a music
video out of files you've copied to your PC from a
    camcorder or digital camera.

"That doesn't sound like much of a breakthrough unless
you've tried doing it with ordinary video-editing
programs. The rule of thumb among media professionals
is that it takes an hour to produce one minute of
finished video using software called an NLE
    (non-linear editor).

"In less than a minute, by comparison, AutoProducer
finds key visual highlights in your video segments and
edits them -- in sync with your chosen music track --
into a polished little "muvee" (pronounced MYOO-vee,
    as in music video)."

    (some snippage here)

"I was impressed by AutoProducer's mysterious ability to
pick out focal points in the action and mesh them with
music into something more attention-grabbing. In one
shot of a little girl rocking back and forth,
AutoProducer edited out the middle, segueing the
beginning and end of the movements into a single,
    seamless motion.

    "Start at http://www.muvee.com/website/?id=freebies to
get 33 free music tracks. Download the software to
experiment. And watch out, Steven Spielberg."

Is it now officially time to scream and run? How long do you think it'll take before the breed of Linkin-Parkin' "creators" here stumble across this little gem?

Not, mind you, that "AutoProducer" is ever going to replace the efforts of a dedicated, talented creator... but it is going to allow a whole bunch of hack wannabes to flood the nets with even more hairbrained vids. Le sigh, le double sigh.
  • Damn them anyway 2002-02-11 14:59:55 So what is it about the "Cowboy Funk" episode that would prompt Cartoon Network to instead rerun "Jupiter Jazz pt1"? (Thanks guys... if you're going to do a one-off rerun, pick half of a two-parter. Brilliant.)

Dammit, I'm hooked on Bebop now. Must. See. All. Existing. Bebop. Material.

Oh, and I know I haven't been here in a couple of weeks. Sorry 'bout that. If you've been reading my drivel here at all, you probably know what I've been up to instead of staying on top of my AMV.org duties. ;)
  • Misunderstandings abound 2002-01-25 17:27:07 dreddnott: Ah, okay. Somehow I missed picking up on that distinction. Consider me rebuked.

And for more things that serve only to prove that I'm both an idiot AND an intellectual snob, I dove into my old journal database and pulled out my old "Thots" journal entries and plunked them back into the new journal. Sheesh, I'm plagiarizing myself. If there were a God, I'd be praying for him to help save me from myself...
  • Just so no to... mpeg? 2002-01-24 18:28:25 ThorDwolf: But I LIKE mpeg files... I can play them on nearly any computer at my disposal, which I can't say about DivX. (Yes, I can do a whole lot of work to install the libraries, dlls and a copy of MPlayer onto my various Linux boxen, but... sheesh.)

The notion of DivX-encoded AMVs being superior to their MPEG bretheren is often laughable anyway, I've found. *shrug* YMMV, as always.
