Rumblings From The Monday Morning
2002-01-14 14:24:51
What do you know? Four banners to vote on, and I actually had to look at them and judge based on their merits or lack thereof instead of merely dismissing them with extreme prejudice (like I usually have to do). If you care (and why you'd be reading this at all is beyond me!) it was an even split, two W and two U. I liked one of the "Beatles" banners but not the other, the 56k modem one kinda left me flat, and the "Artistic Talent" one struck me as well-stated and appropriate.
Geez, is there anything so trivial I can't offer a lame diatribe for?
Speaking of lame diatribes, I now have to admit that I am LOVING Bebop. Last night I stayed up for my third straight late-Sunday-night viewing on Cartoon Network. I like it, I like it lots. Great musical selections, well-done animation, quirky stories and characters... all stuff I adore. So the question remains... is Edward just plain nuts, or crazy like a fox? Or both?
In other news, I finally got the whole vob/avisynth/premiere thing to work. At this point I'm inclined to use VirtualDub to make HuffYUV snippets for later assembly in Premiere. I'm not entirely certain how you're "supposed" to use the "one large movie file" in Premiere and get a multi-clip AMV out of it. Help? Email me?
Okay, now I'll go pretend to work for a living.

ErMaC's guide to VOB-based editing addendum

If you don't have the HuffYUV codec installed, Premiere isn't going to like you very much. A point that might bear entering into the original guide... hint hint... =)

Back from the wilds of Longview with a journal reply and some useful info to boot.
2002-01-11 21:22:25
The Longview trip was a breeze, the things I had to fix took no time at all. Yay!
MCWagner: Okay, that site is kinda weird. Wow, let's take some fun cartoons WAY, WAY too fucking seriously, people. (Oh wait, anime fandom does the same thing fairly often. Nevermind.)
As for the popups... there's a way to deal with that. Get the latest Mozilla release (that would be 0.9.7 at the moment) from http://www.mozilla.org, install, then go to http://xulplanet.com and find in the "Applications" section to grab the "Preferences Toolbar."
http://www.xulplanet.com/downloads/view.cgi?category=applications&view=prefbar
There. Copy/paste and enjoy. ;)
If all goes well, you now have (upon restarting Mozilla) a browser with a special toolbar that allows you to turn on and off things like cookies, on-load popups, java, javascript, and various other potential annoyances on-the-fly.
Don't say I never gave you nuttin'.

Road trip, woot.
2002-01-11 15:35:09
In about an hour I'll be on the road to Longview to do some moderately evil things to their computers. Wish me luck...
I'll work some more on my video this weekend, honest.
Have a good one, everybody!

A short musical interlude for EK
2002-01-11 13:04:35
So I pull up EK's journal and see this title:
"She's made it to the other side / Maybe Jim Morrison is there / and Kurt and Jerry and the guy from Sublime / and other people who have died."
It immediately makes me think of the song "Joytown," by the late, great Kevin Gilbert. It's a fabulous tune.. "Jesus and Mohammed / and Buddha hang around" and "Martin Luther King has got a blonde white girlfriend" and "No one sells his roommate's stuff so he can get a fix / No one fears the darkness, no one fears the number six" and so on and so on... great song.
I've got an Ogg copy of it, if anyone's interested... =)
