JOURNAL: Castor Troy (Ryan Molina)

  • Backup server on the way.... 2002-07-10 20:34:29 Since a few people are having trouble downloading Bebop Z from DB-Utopia, I'm currently uploading it a backup server I had ready just in case this happened.... Let's hope this one works...
  • I love fry's! 2002-07-09 20:51:05 Such great prices at Fry's..... I got..

Golden boy DVD 1 for $19.99
    Trigun #7 DVD for $19.99
Ninku/Yu Yu Hakusho movie 1 combo for $14.99

and had enough money left for a double western bacon cheeseburger from Carl's Jr.

It was worth the 30 miles I drove as opposed to the mall.

Anyways, I recently deleted all my clips for DiGi Charat Solid 2 and will be recapturing them in bigger resolution next month after I get a new 100 gig hard drive and go to comic con. I'm also planning to attend Ani Magic in October but probably won't have a new AMV there (Don't need to "troll" Bebop Z anymore...). This also means I won't get DiGi Charat Solid 2 done in time for AWA.

Wow, Bebop Z is up to 7 opinions in just 3 days. That's extremely good compared to the 8 months it took to get Unknown Darkness 7 opinions... If you downloaded Bebop Z, please write a review telling me what you thought. Thanks!

Golden boy is funny as hell! :D
  • AX AMV Contest reviews.... 2002-07-09 11:38:34 I'm leaving for fry's to get the first Goldenboy DVD hopefully for a decent price.... -_- and since the AX thread is too long, here are my reviews for the videos in the contest...

    ACTION

    ----------------

View or Die! - Jeames Dunne

I never seen Read or Die and the editing was a bit mediocre although the one scene with the girl killing that bug with her fingers was kinda cool.

    ----------------

    The Look - Vlad Pohnert

Pretty entertaining video about anime girls, audience got a kick out of the opening text.

    ----------------

Dragon Bebop Z - Ryan Molina

This video sucks and the creator needs to be shot for sending it to so many cons because he claims he just wants to it be seen

    ----------------

    Chemicals - Daniel Araujo (WINNER)

This video really spoiled EVA for my friend and I thought it was ok and nothing memorable.

    ----------------

Radinov's Bad Habit - Steven Rutter

Ok....... the biggest dissapointment to this video is that it REALLY spoiled Gunsmith cats for me. A couple of funny text scenes in it though.

    ----------------

    Controlling Afflictions - Binh Lam

This one's done to the Linkin Park In the End crawling mix and don't shoot me for saying this but I really liked this video for some reason. I think this video should have just been done to In the End and the final showdown with Tetsuo and Kaneda was excellent.

    ----------------

The World Loves a Bastard - Ted Papadopoulous

I saw this as a mindless action video for fans of "Bastard!". If you like Bastard, then this is for you.

    ----------------

    Their Lives - Peter Stoll

EVA to Bon Jovi's "It's my life". Overused anime to an overused song. I did like the part when Rei's EVA hit it's head on the building twice... lol

    ----------------

Destiny of the Dark - Vlad Pohnert

I really liked this one but my only gripe is that it was too short.

    ----------------

Path of the Deus! - Senta Miller

A chop suey video with some pretty funky editing. The song's been done alot but I liked this one and it got a few laughs.

    ----------------

    FUN

Shameless Rock Video - Ian Roberts (WINNER)

Self explanitory - KICK ASS. The audience went wild over the eye brow thing.

    ----------------

EVA ep 27 - In the end - TommyRude

Interesting concept of using EVA combined with live action footage of one of the Linkin Park singers. One cool part was the Linkin Park guy was masked into EVA and the ending with Shinji...lol

    -----------------

    Beboppin - ????

Very cute video....... Lip sync wasn't perfect but the Ed lip sync was cool.

    -----------------

    DRAMA

    Devotion - Tim Stair

Was this the Escaflowne video? I think it was... this was probably my favorite out of the Drama videos...

    -----------------

    Lies - Stephen Cilley

    Forgot how this one was.

    -----------------

Silent Lucidity - Anthony Bennett (WINNER)

Nice video which made something like Card Captor Sakura look interesting. Not as good as "One Day More" but I felt that this didn't really deserve to win in comparison with the Esca video.

    -----------------

    Because She... - Daniel Araujo

Cool Faye Tribute video, now I've seen them all.

    -----------------

    Cursed Fate - Charles Bathel

After feeling that Vlad's video was too short, this was a nice video with more Vampire Hunter D footage. Very.....ummmmm mystical.

    -----------------

Adagio for Fireflies - Art Smoke

This one made me feel a bit sad but really spoiled Grave of the fireflies for me.

    -----------------

    Still - Alvin T. Chang

Can't remember too much of this either.....

    -----------------

    Enigma - Kamaran Ahmadi

EvilVegettoZ already knows what I thought of this. Sounded GREAT on the theater's speakers...

    -----------------

    Rose Rhythms - Jason Tennant

Can't recall too much about this one.... but it was dedicated to roses or something.... all I know is that it was nice.

    -----------------

    Shell Shock - Daniel Cecava

I really enjoyed this video when I downloaded it but somehow the quality didn't look that great on the big screen. The song sounded INCREDIBLE on the speakers which really made you feel the intensity...

    -----------------

    COMEDY

    Spectacular - Jessica Brunelle

EXCELLENT video..... it made a good first impression and has alot of rewatchability....

    -----------------

NYO is WAR - Tim Park

Downloaded this a while back and loved it enough to get into DiGi Charat

    -----------------

Death Violence and Hate (in an All-Girls Dormitory with a Hot Spring) - Senta Miller

Can't remember too much about this but I know it was done to Love Hina and had some funny scenes.

    -----------------

A total waste of 6min 35seconds - Troy Williams (WINNER)

GREAT video............ but only the first time you watch it.... It's not even funny at all the 2nd time.

    -----------------

    Cybernetic Eyecandy - Scott Crim

    Forgot about this one.....

    ------------------

Everybody's Free (To Watch anime) - Richard Cole

    Can't remember this one....

    ------------------

    X-park - Cassiopeia Brinks

Funny idea but wasn't executed too well...

    ------------------

    Kung Fubop - Kamaran Ahmadi

Full review coming when you put it in your profile.......

    ------------------

This Video Sucks - Tim Park

Funny video but not as good as Right now. Major Props for the Yu Yu Hakusho scene at the end... :P

The amv contest was alot like the final battles of Yu Yu Hakusho where all the good guys lost. I was pretty much Yusuke and SpPanda was Yomi. This entire con had a big YYH feeling to it.... and I'm pretty lame for comparing a real life event to an anime.. lol.
  • AX AMV stuff report thingy whatever... 2002-07-08 14:10:46 I'll be writing a full con report in the future but here's the rundown on the AMV stuff...

    Day 1 - 7/3/02

My friends and I walk over to the Rock Bottom waiting for EvilVegettoZ and NeoHentaiMaster to arrive. We see a large group of people but have no idea if they are the AMV creators. Then one guy walks up to us and asks if we're here for the AMV gathering and I say I am and show my name tag. They recognize my name from the org and the mailing list and I shake hands with the Orange Kitten Production guy? Sorry for not remembering you. We see Sean Thordsen arrive and we all go in to sit down. Most of the AMV creators fill the round table seats and since I came in with 3 other friends, we sit in a booth across from them. After a long wait, EvilVegettoZ and NeoHentaiMaster arrive and since there aren't enough seats, we move to a bigger table and re-socialize after a year of not seeing each other.

Feeling that we were a bit rude just leaving the AMV creators like that, EvilVegettoZ and I walk over to their tables and the first people we talk to are some people from the org or mailing list and I pass out my Dragon Bebop Z cds. Then we go to another table were I finally meet Anneke and MikageNoMiko (I think) from the org and mailing list. I finally learn how to pronounce Anneke as "ann-eh-kay" as opposed to "Ann-eke". I tell her that I'm sorry that her videos didn't make it in and ask about Ermac and she tells me he's sitting in the table across from them. I pass out my cds and get 3 cds from Anneke and MikageNoMiko (I think) back in return. Although I accidently left Mikage's vcd on the table in my rush... and she reminded me to pick it up. :P

Next table, I shake hands again with the Orange Kitten guy (I think) and the infamous Ermac and pass out more of my cds. I greet everyone and move to table 2.

At Table 2 I shook hands with Vlad Pohnert, Xstylus, Sean Thordsen, and Brad DeMoss. Vlad and I were talking alot about how we both implemented after effects in our videos and Vlad tells me about his drama video that didn't make it in (Trust me... it's REALLY good) and I say that Vlad will take me down in the action category but he insists otherwise and I say "We'll see". I pass out cds to everyone at the table and Brad DeMoss said "this is the video that won at Akon right?" and I reply with a thumbs up. I get a cd from Vlad and move on.

I walk over and notice Eric Kobet standing in the corner by looking at his name tag, introduced myself, shook hands with him and complimented him on Tainted Donuts and how he helped inspired Bebop Z. I ask him why he didn't make a new video for this year and he said he had some personal things to deal with and after having the greatest honor of meeting him, I notice a familiar face.

I walk up to probably the nicest dressed person in the room with a video camera and ask "Are you Carlos Corral from mindwarp entertainment?" since he looked like him from the pictures and he shows me his name tag and I show him mine and we shake hands and he shouts "CASTOR FUCKING TROY!" lol... Then he pulls out his video camera and asks me how long Bebop Z took me and I said "3 and a half months until my eyes were bleeding!" then he asks me if I had anything to say to Joe of Maboroshi studio and I turn my head twice to see if he was there and begged for him not to kill me and I get on my knees.... lol..... if Carlos puts up footage of that on Mindwarp.. It'll be embarrasing yet hilarious. I move on to Table 3... after giving out more cds.

I introduce myself at Table 3 and everyone gives me a "Who the hell are you?" look and I say I'm a finalist and they go "Oh yeah.. now we remember" so I pass out the remainder of my cds and one guy says I forgot to give him one so I get the last one from my backpack and give it to him. I say goodbye to everyone and drive my friends to a nearby arcade to play DDR.

    Day 3 - 7/5/02

This was the BIG day I've been waiting for.... at 3pm we lined up for the AMV creators panel and I talked with this guy about various amvs. The panel was long but alot of fun. Ermac and Vlad did most of the talking and Eric and Tim were kinda shy a bit but were also informative. One thing I remember was Tim saying "I'm Tim Park" then he holds up his Dejiko doll "and Dejiko makes all my videos". While Eric seemed a bit nervous on the panel, he was probably the funniest one there. We see a few of their classic amvs and finally get our tickets. I get a cd from Sean Thordsen and TommyRude then after going to the bathroom, we finally line up for the AMV contest....

Oh god.... the wait outside was TERRIBLE. We were forced to wait outside for over an hour and a half with a thousand angry people screaming "LET US IN!" A few people with laptops play amvs and put their text screensavers as "LET US IN!" After the long wait, we finally get seated....

I see Anneke with a nice seat in the middle and Brad DeMoss with a seat in the farthest right corner. EvilVegettoZ and I were seated on the far right so we had to slant our heads a bit to watch the screen. We meet Epoch7 (Charles Bethel) and TommyRude (EvilVegettoZ asked him if he was gonna beat Ermac up). People were throwing paper airplanes all over the theater and one guy throws a paper airplane with enough force that it gets stuck in the projection screen. Michael Underwood, the director for the AMV contest comes out and says that the $15,000 screen just got pierced and I see AX security try to find the guy who did it. After another few minutes, Michael comes out and says that the contest has to be delayed till 8 am the next morning which really pisses the entire theater off. The problem was due to a reverse field order which made the videos all jittery and skippy. Feeling extremely dissapointed, we all leave the theater and spend the night at a hotel....

    Day 4 - 7/06/02

After a HORRIBLE night at the hotel, EvilVegettoZ, NeoHentaiMaster, and I go to the AMV contest. The theater was filled with only 2/3 of the people that attended the night before and most of us are tired and groggy, especially me. After talking with Epoch7 for a while, the amv contest finally starts with the action category.... with a cute catgirl announcing it...

After 5 videos, the catgirl announced "Our next video is Dragon Bebop Z by Ryan Molina". The audience chuckled upon hearing "Dragon Bebop Z" and after the long wait I finally prepared to see my video on the big screen.....

Well, the video quality was a bit messed up and looked like it was played through the VCR 100000 times but still looked pretty ok. The audience kept laughing and cheering throughout the entire video and my feelings of embarassment were going away with the feeling that I amused the crowd. I could write an entire essay on the crowd's reaction to every part in my video but I won't get into that. After the loud cheering for the final scene, EvilVegettoZ told me to get up and bow to the crowd so I did. Seeing my video on the big screen was a great experience with a large crowd watching, it was truly unforgettable.

After all the action videos played, the audience was asked to cheer for the videos. The videos were to be rated using a decibel meter for the noise the crowd makes but the loudest whistle could raise the meter even higher than the crowd..... Bebop Z got the highest applause but the overall winner was SpPanda's Chemicals videos. No offense to SpPanda (You're cool and all) but your niece/sister/whoever whistled REALLY LOUD which put the meter in his favor even though his applause wasn't that big. But congrats to Panda and hope he does well on the panel next year. The entire crowd looked very disappointed and surprised.

The Fun videos played.... starting with EvilVegettoZ's Kung Fubop... they played half of it on accident and stopped. The winner of this category was The Shameless Rock video

The drama videos played and winner came to OtakuOutpost's silent lucidity video. I thought it was a good video but I personally though the Escaflowne video was better.

The comedy videos played and they weren't as good as last year's... It was nice seeing NYO IS WAR again since that video got me into seeing DiGi Charat. They started off with....... Kung Fubop again! then stopped it and played the right video... EvilVegettoZ was getting really pissed.... When Kung Fubop was finally played, the catgirl said "Tim Park" made it. This really infuriated EvilVegettoZ.... I really liked Tim's "This video sucks", jescaflowne's "Spectacular", and Troy's "Waste of 6 min" and the overall winner was "waste of 6 min". It was a great video for a first impression but has NO replay value whatsoever. I know it deserved to win but I personally would have voted for the Spectacular video.

    So the winners were..

    Action: Chemicals
    Fun: Shameless Rock Video
    Drama: Silent Lucidity
    Comedy: Waste of 6 min

    and the overall winner.........

    Drama: Silent Lucidity

Ok.... I think Waste of 6 min should have won and no offense to OtakuOutpost but he had 10 or so friends sitting by him which put the decibel meter in his favor which robbed Waste of 6 min of the award. Then OtakuOutpost gave 2 awards to Waste of 6 min and the Escaflowne video (I think). When the contest was over, many people in the crowd requested that Dragon Bebop Z was to be played again. Upon hearing this, I smiled and walked out to the door to meet up with everyone crowding Xstylus. He offered EvilVegettoZ and jescaflowne a spot on the panel for next year and I can't wait to see Evil on it... lol... After talking with Epoch7 and Machine, we met up with SpPanda in the lobby of the theater and said our goodbyes. EvilVegettoZ, NeoHentaiMaster, and I walked outside and bitched about how I got robbed of Best Action and how Kung Fubop was totally messed up during the showing. Such a dissapointing contest but it was such a great pleasure seeing Bebop Z on the big screen. Evil and Neo were tired and went home so I decided to stick around and waited for some more friends.

    Day 5 - 7/07/02

The amv contest was going to be replayed at 8am so I woke up early and decided to go to it. When Bebop Z was going to be played again, people began screaming "IT WAS ROBBED!!!!!!" and it got another great amount of laughter and applause. Michael Underwood made all of his own comments on each of the videos and after Bebop Z played he said "We got ALOT of amazing entries this year...... and man.... the things people do with premiere". I only stayed to catch Evil's "Enigma" and RubyEye's "Shellshock" which sounded GREAT on the big speakers. I left to go to the bathroom and walked outside of the theater. I looked up at it and said "I'll be back next year hopefully to see a better contest..." I smiled then turned my head away from the theater for the last time....

In the dealers room, I heard various people talking about the amv contest and mostly people were talking about Bebop Z. I couldn't help but smile :)

    Epilouge

I would like to give my thanks to James, Brian, Michael, and Xstylus for fixing the problems with the amv contest and still allowing it to show. I would also like to thank all the amv creators I met, I'm sorry I couldn't hang out with you guys more but hopefully I will in the near future.

I made a vow last year that I would come back stronger and I worked hard enough and finally got the see my video on the big screen. It was truly an unforgettable experience that I would love to see again. Although I didn't win any awards or get a spot on the panel, I got something alot better than those...... the fact that I entertained the crowd and put smiles on their faces was the greatest award of them all.
