Ani Magic report.
2002-10-07 12:44:02
Day 1 - Saturday
----------------
I get my friends, Jon, Jake, Mike, and I to Ani magic in a little bit over an hour thanks to driving 80-100mph on the freeway. We see the best western hotel and are totally shocked how small it was. I give a call to Ikasu saying how small the con is and head off to the registration line.
--------------------
Scott McNeil's Panel
--------------------
We decided not to head to registration right away and boy, are we ever glad we didn't. We finally got to see the legend himself, Scott McNeil talk to us during his panel. He's even cooler than I possibly imagined.
--------------------
Registration
--------------------
Jon and Jake had already pre regged before we came to Ani magic so Mike and I waited an hour in line to register thanks to one of the laminating machines breaking in the process. I see Revell Walker, the head of the con walking around greeting people. He had a real friendly looking face that reminded me of a priest or a reverend.
--------------------
Dealers Room
--------------------
Very small... like 1/10th of the one at AX. I got some pretty good deals though.
Yu Yu Hakusho: Poltergeist Report (Movie 2) DVD- $20
Trigun #8: High Noon DVD- $20 (I finally have them all!)
Yu Yu Hakusho Music battle cd- $10
The best of DBZ #3- $15
Some weird Yu Yu Hakusho preview tape- $4
I made a few rounds here alot during the day but really didn't find anything else that I wanted.
---------------------
Poolside VA panel
---------------------
Got to see Jonathan Osborne, Wendee Lee, Scott McNeil (again), Amanda Win Lee, and Crispin Freeman talk. Pretty informative.
We got to meet up with Ikasu and NeoHentaiMaster again and I told them not to register since the con was so small. After letting them use my pass to see the dealers room, they decided the con sucked and wanted to leave. Since Jon already got us a hotel room, we had to stay so we said our goodbyes to them.
---------------------
Wendee Lee Panel
---------------------
The voice of Faye herself... She was very cute, friendly, and informative. She is truly SSJ Faye :P
---------------------
Night Masquerade and Gaming room
---------------------
After a very boring afternoon, things finally started to get better at night. I finally got to see a masquerade for the first time in my life and I have to see it's one of the damn funniest things I've ever seen. The highlight of the con to me was the Gaming room which was even bigger than AX's. I got to play 8 player Halo on xbox for 2 hour straight getting my ass kicked since I sucked at fps games but it was still alot of fun. I also got to play this cool mech game on the xbox where you literally get to control with a terminal (that thing must cost ALOT). Fun game but I kept on walking backwards and I completed my mission with just randomly shooting everything. Everyone pretty much hogged Smash Bros Melee, SNK vs Capcom, and Soul Caliber. Mike and I played the new Robotech game which was pretty cool but Mike ended up getting glued to Gundam Battle Assault 2 for psx until 12am. Jonathan Osborne hung out in the video game room alot as well. Unfortunately, the coldness from the outside was really making my cold alot worse...
----------------------
Dance?
----------------------
Pretty much an empty room... Went back to the hotel for only 5 hours of sleep...
---------------------
Day 2 - Sunday
---------------------
Breakfast - Expensive
I pretty much spent most of my time in the dealers and gaming room throughout the day feeling pretty groggy.
---------------------
Anime music video....panel?
---------------------
I saw the amv panel listed on the event schedule at 11am so I decided to see if it was actually gonna happen. It was pretty much a dead room with me and 7 other people. We were waiting so long that I was almost ready to go to the front of the room and lead the panel myself. The staff came in and announced that it had been cancelled.
---------------------
Closing ceremonies
---------------------
Revell announced he got enough money from the con to support both Ani Magic 2003 and 2004. We said our goodbyes to our friends and headed home. I was so tired, I ended up getting us lost driving but found our way back.
--------------------
Con thoughts
--------------------
Ani Magic was definitely the smallest con I've even been to. I thought it was gonna suck alot but suprisingly, I had alot of fun especially at night. One advantage that Ani magic had was there were no lines for anything (except registration) so it was easy to get into everything. The gaming room was an absolute blast and the voice actors I saw were just too damn cool.
Would I go back next year?
Probably just for the panels and gaming room.

Reconsidering...
2002-10-03 17:11:24
I've been listening to a few River City Ranson remixes.. (I love that game to death) and I think I can do alot more with these than the Punch Out remixes. Hopefully if the NES project goes underway... I'll stick with River City Ransom.

Support the Nintendo Project!
2002-10-02 02:56:21
It started off as drunk talk from MJ at AWA but now we need people to contribute to the project!

Maybe this will get my out of my lazy amv slump.. and I call dibs on Punch out! :P
The reason why I didn't take Megaman was because I knew most people would want dibs on that first..
Come help us make the project a reality!
