Evangelion
2002-03-30 01:47:30
I foolishly allowed myself to get caught up in yet another of those damned EoE vs the last 2 Episodes of Evangelion arguments.
I just don't know why I see things others don't seem to (based on what they wrote). I talked for SIX SOLID HOURS with my best friend who watched it with me and we could only talk about how wonderful the end of the TV show was. There was no EOE out there... but we pieced together the show and we GOT IT. We went on and on about what an uplifting and empowering message the show had given us and I personally felt forever changed by the strong message of the TV show.
If people who say EoE is what EVA was really about...
then how did I reach the conclusions I did? How come I can justify so much of the show based on information from the show... how did I piece together the puzzle, if that was the wrong answer??
Personally...I am so tired of people who blame the show for their not figuring it out. I am tired of people saying how happy is bad and positive is childish. Didn't anyone understand the ending and how complicated it was?
Many relgions base their foundation on the words of Christ. I happen to not be a member of any of those religions... but isn't HIS message a simple one... an uplifting one?
Isn't it harder to build than to destroy?
The EVA tv show tells us how we can build ourselves up... how we can work to make ourselves better people...
the EoE movie just talks about destruction... how we have no value and it destroys our sense of worth.
Which sounds like the more complicated message?
Give Up
or
Keep Trying?
I will admit that in seeing EoE, I was able to answer some of the less important questions of the show. Questions that really didn't even need answering... like "What happened to... (fill in the name)
The show was about Shinji.
Plain and simple... all the rest was dressing.
Shinji felt worthless...
he suddenly felt value because he could pilot EVA
when the last Angel was defeated, his value was lost because he hooked it on to something... on to the dreams of others... on to an ability... on to things based on "getting others to like him"
Finally, he realizes that HE is the one of value. That he has to see himself as a valuable person... that he could exist in a world without EVA and the Angels and be someone of value. He saw that deep down he still had major issues, but that with this new understanding he had the potential to be anything.
What great message did people get out of EoE?
The TV show made sense - it was well structures
The movie seemed confused and had no message worth telling.
All I can say is maybe people who blame the TV show are missing the fact that its not the TV show that has a problem...
I guess I'm saying that even if EVERYONE on this page THINKS one way, doesn't change what I got out of the show... and what I got was beautiful and I won't change my opinions or thoughts just so I can please all those who would say otherwise.
Like I said...
the show had a real impact on me... one that I will change me as much as any other quality piece of writing.
That's all I have to say on that for now.

Happy News
2002-03-27 05:21:36
I'm happy that there has been some really great stuff happening to counter the depression that I was swamped with...
Apparently, I have been named ANIME PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK on the "A Fan's View" web page.
This was quite unexpected and certainly a happy surprise!
I feel so official now!
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Quote of the week: "Everyone wants money... that's why it's called money."

Amazin'
2002-03-26 20:03:14
I'm stunned to see that my "Flash Before Your Eyes" AMV has been DLed over 300 times! Pretty exciting!
My newest vids have had some pretty heavy hits as well!
I guess I'm just excited to know that complete strangers (and some completely strange people as well) are seeing the AMVs I worked so hard on.
I simply am stating the obvious, but I bet everyone here feels good when they know someone who has similar interests, but is otherwise a stranger, is viewing the AMV they worked on. It's just nice to know you're having an impact (even if only a minor one) on other people.
Thanks to everyone who DLed my AMVs and hope you liked the ones you saw!

In 24 Hours there has been over 100 downloads of my 4 vids (combined)
That's really amazing to me...
Uhmmm... that's it, really.

And then...
2002-03-26 02:16:08
As I sit here feeling down... I suddenly got two new reviews.
They were both very friendly and made me feel good about the AMVs I have made.
When you're really down, its amazing how much nicer a kind word can be... I really feel so much better from something as simple as a nice review. Then again... my last AMV is called "Hope in the Face of Sorrow."
So... isn't that how life works?
