JOURNAL: UncleMilo (Jonathan Osborne)

  • 100 Hits and not a single review 2002-06-11 04:47:09 Well... that's typical.

I'm very pleased that my Nanami AMV has been downloaded 100 times... I got to bother that many people with my warped personality! YAY!

I am 50% done with my current AMV and I still have no idea if it's going to be any good in the end. I hope it will be...

I will probably have it done by the end of June.

I got DVD 1 of Excel Saga and that's some damn funny shit.

I saw "The Sum of All Fears" and wasn't that impressed... it felt like there was a lot missing... it just sort of happened and that was it and then there were credits and I'm like... huh?

I don't know if I am going to be able to enter anything at Anime Expo because it's just gotten to be a hassle. Furthermore, I just don't like being in the contests...

After all I did to get my AMVs into contests, I found that I didn't have any fun (even though I won the first one I got involved with)

Maybe I just don't like all the bullshit that seems to happen around the contests...

Still... I make 'em and people see 'em... and I think I'm just happy to have people see them. Perhaps I'll just enter the "for display" that some conventions offer. No contest... just showing my AMVs to people who want to see them.

    Well...
quoting the song that's playing right now

"I think it's gonna be a long, long time."

  • My day has been made! 2002-06-05 10:05:24 Yay! I got to read Ami's reaction before I logged off!
I get to skip and dance and go "tra-la-la"...

I'm always happy when I can make someone smile... or howl :)

Anyway... I agree... I don't understand people who dl movies and watch them all chunked up and broken on their tiny computer screens...

Much rather be in the dark, looking up... surrounded by other people who would rather be in the dark, looking up... all of us laughing and cheering and screaming and whatever reaction we get from the movie!

(When I talked about digital theatre, I was talking about the new technology of beaming a movie from the production studio to the movie theatre so there would be no film to carry/break/or damage... I wasn't sure if you thought I was talking about DLing movies when I made that earlier comment)

I have to say one of my favorite lines from that routine is
"Let not the sands of time get in your lunch"
    a close tie with
"Consider that two wrongs don't make a right, but that THREE do."

Well... work's over and I'm going home to sleep.

  • Hi Ami 2002-06-05 07:33:46 This is entire post is dedicated to Ami because she lives in a place where the movies arrive slowly... long is it until we see the age of digital theatres where movies can be bounced back and forth around the globe.

Then there would be none of this silly waiting to see what everyone else has seen nonsense.

I have decided to recite these lines

    "Go placidly
    Amid the noise and waste.
And remember what comfort there may be
    In owning a piece thereof.
    Avoid quiet and passive persons
Unless you are in need of sleep.
    Rotate your tires.
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself
    And heed well their advice,
    Even though they be turkeys.
    Know what to kiss.....and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right
    But that THREE.........do.
Wherever possible, put people on hold.
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment
And despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.
    Remember the Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
    Know yourself.
If you need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you.
That lemon on your left, for instance.
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
    Fall not in love therefore;
It will stick to your face.
Gracefully surrender the things of youth:
The birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan
And let not the sands of time
    Get in your lunch.
    Hire people with hooks.
    For a good time call 606-4311;
    Ask for "Ken."
Take heart amid the deepening gloom
That your dog is finally getting enough cheese.
And reflect that whatever misfortune may be your lot
It could only be worse in Milwaukee.
Therefore, make peace with your god
Whatever you conceive him to be---
    Hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises and urban renewal
    The world continues to deteriorate.
    GIVE UP!

    You are a fluke
    Of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back."

I wish I could take credit for any of that, but that was from a wonderful comedy routine I heard back when I was in 7th or 8th grade.

Anyway... I hope these words have put a smile on your face
and I hope you can have a warm feeling knowing that some complete
nutbar has dedicated an entire journal entry to you!
    Yes to you!
    Yes, you!
    Right now!
    YOU!

Meanwhile, I shall once again consider why I am allowed to be where sane people are.

  • A-Kon 2002-06-05 01:45:00 Wow! I had too much fun at A-Kon... but I paid the price for it...

First off, I was deemed "Lord Nutter-Butter" by Mary, which was amusing. I played on that for as much as I could.

Then I got to see Mary be proposed to during opening ceremonies, which was sweet.

Made many new friends in the voice acting community and had many good experiences with the fans.

The best part of the con for me was participating in the game shows. I was center square for "Anime Hollywood Squares" and was also involved with "Anime Match Game". Both went quite well, if you ask me.

Saturday night, I became quite sick, though... and Sunday was really very bad for me. I did my best to put on a smile and participate in the few events I had left to do. I was even talked into dancing the dance from "Child's Toy"... which really knocked the hell out of me...

still... I was able to smile until the fans went away...
    then the fever kicked in.

Sunday night, I know I was just a disaster for my poor roommate, but what could I do? I was just a collection of sickness...

Monday morning, I felt a little better... but not much. I was able to say bye to many of my friends (though some had to leave on Sunday) and then I had to suffer on the plane trip home. Nothing worse than air pressure on your cold-swollen head!

Despite the cold, I had more than enough fun... and I plan to resume work on my many projects.
  • Anger 2002-05-28 01:47:31 Actually...I'm just annoyed at the stupid corporate people.

Unfortunately... I can't talk about some of what I know, but when I keep hearing stories about how truly creative people are stifled by guys who have never read a book and yet they think they know best because they own a tie...

I'm also angry because a friend of mine did the subtitling for a show and did his standard quality work on it. It wasn't a good show... (just a fun one) and he knew exactly how the script should "feel"

I just got the DVD release... and apparently it changed hands...
because the new company dumped his translation and gave us a new, flatter, less inspired, less interesting and less fun translation. I found out that the person in charge of the DVD just gave the translation job to some fansubber they were friends with!

Now I have to suffer this bland, horrible new subtitle script because some exec isn't interested in quality (and probably couldn't tell the difference)

    URGH!
