JOURNAL: UncleMilo (Jonathan Osborne)

  • Don't give in to the Nothing 2002-06-23 09:31:47 I just read Ami's Journal - look at me being all Ami-centric...

Anyway... I saw that she was talking about Neverending Story. I enjoyed that movie a heck of a lot (though clearly not as much as Ami)

I was always quite fond of those two creepy Sphinx-things that would shoot people who were filled with fear and lack of self confidence.

I never read the book, but I understand the movie only covers the first portion of the book and then then it just sort of ends itself - never touching all the stuff that happens later in the book.

Anyway... I'm glad to hear it's coming on DVD...
I just picked up one of the movies I was more crazed about, which was the Dark Crystal - but unlike The Neverending Story DVD (according to what she wrote) th Dark Crystal DVD had all the extras from the LD... including the documentary.

I say it again - America lost a bit too much when Jim Henson died.

  • Feeling bad 2002-06-23 03:22:08 I find I am sleeping worse and worse - this schedule is killing me

August is not geting here soon enough!

In August I quit my job and move to Illinois!

    HUZZAH!

If only I can live that long

Almost fell asleep behind wheel of car on the way to work.

I was falling asleep on the phone with a friend.

When I'm awake, I'm almost asleep

when I try to sleep, there's too much "awake"

    I hate this job!!!!

  • Ami! 2002-06-22 15:39:45 Thanks Ami!

I hope I can get my friend to get the files up as soon as he can...

I hope you saw my pro-Ami comments from before!
    YAY AMI!!

Oh... I wanted to comment about Cool World. I noticed you had a comment on Cool World and I thought I would say some things about it.
    1) It's by Ralph Bakshi - and his stuff is... well... it's a taste... and most people don't like his stuff... however, I do like his movies (most importantly American Pop... but I also liked Fire and Ice, Wizards, Lord of the Rings and I kind of liked Cool World.

    2) THE REAL DISASTER, however, was that Cool World was an R Rated film... but that Paramont, who did the distribution, hacked it down to PG-13 and tried to release it as another "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" A BIG MISTAKE! Frank Mancusso Jr (if I am spelling his name right) during a conversation with Ralph Bakshi explained that it was ridiculous to make an R-Rated animated film because "adults don't watch cartoons"

    3) There's no reason for you to like the film. I happen to like Cool World (though I have issues with it as well... though my biggest problem was that almost all the plot points were cut out!! Like the part explaining why the artist went to jail in the first place) This post is not here to convince you to feel differently about the movie. I want to make that point very clear! Just wanted to comment on the movie based on your note and that's all...

    Now...
a very good movie to see... one that I think you WILL like is

    "About a Boy."

This movie is a wonderful little movie. The story, like a lot of British films like this one, has a happy ending that isn't sappy. If you get a chance, give it a watch...

  • DONE! 2002-06-22 02:23:44 The work is done!

Cowboy Swing is finished, and I can't tell you how glad I am that's over with. It was a lot of effort and more work than I've done on any other AMV... but my heart just wasn't in it as much...

It's still a good AMV and I think one of the better ones I have made, but I'm not as connected to it as some of my other AMVs...

Still... when I saw the final product, I just smiled, knowing all the work paid off and knowing I was done with my last Cowboy Bebop AMV. While I may make AMVs with Bebop footage, I plan to never make another Bebop exclusive AMV.

I'm also happy that I have 10 completed AMVs!!

I'm going to do my best to get "Cowboy Swing" and "What?" up on my friend's webpage as fast as possible! However, only the MPEG versions are going to be there - the AVI version are just TOO BIG!

    That's all for now.
  • Let's look at the numbers! 2002-06-17 02:39:03 Flash Before Your Eyes - 691!! Almost 700 DLs! Can you believe it?

Tribute to Ed - 329! Not bad for my 2nd AMV!

Akane Tendo has a Little Bit of a Temper - 291... catching up to Ed fast!

    Outsider - 142

Nanami's Lament - 108! I can't believe this broke 100! I wonder what people think of it... This AMV has the most downloads with 0 reviews.

NieA's Life - 76 More People should see this one.

Hope in the Face of Sorrow - 75 This one is very personal to me. I wonder what people think of it.

Lurking in the Shadows - 74 My lonely first AMV. I'm still very proud of it and unlike stories I have read from others, I don't cringe when I watch it. I think the sound level seems a bit high, but otherwise I'm still pleased with this one. Give it a watch! Phantom Quest Corp doesn't get nearly enough credit.

Well... I don't know why I'm self promoting like this. I'm just pleased to know there are a bunch of people seeing my AMVs. I'd put the AVIs up of my most recent ones... but they are just too damn big (between 300 and 400 meg). Only have AVIs of "Akane...", "NieA's Life" and "Hope..." because those were made with the upgraded ULead.

The two new ones will have AVIs as well... but again, I'll only post the MPEG versions.
