JOURNAL: LeahNari (call me Lee-san )

  • a small lesson in the merits of doing your work: 2005-04-01 15:17:03 My bus driver has a daughter in the ninth grade. She's a smart kid, getting A's on tests, quizzes, and all other things. Yet she killed her math grade by not handing in a single homework assignment since second semester started. She's also apparently a very prissy kid, obsessed over how she looks and whether this hair matches that outfit, etc. So what her mom decided to do (and is probably doing as I speak) was to take away ALL of her clothes, make-up, jewelry, curling iron, straightening iron, and other accoutrements and buy her five sets of outfits for school. All the same: navy blue T-shirt to big to tuck in, long pants, and no cool shoes. She will be in a veritable hell for getting that F.
It disturbed me a little listening to her mother's relish at the thought of this punishment, but it's sure to be effective. I dunno. Deliberately blowing off algebra homework for three months kinda lessens my sympathy. And it's not like she had better things to work on (like videos ^_^) either! She just didn't want to do it. So I guess her mom's not really unreasonable. No effort = no good things. You get what you give.
    Mm... Touka Koukan.
  • Waiting for FMA volume 2... 2005-03-30 00:11:46 As I did my homework today (as I should be doing now), I thought it would be okay to have an episode of Full Metal Alchemist playing in the background. Stupidly, I chose episode 6, which sucked up my attention and forced me to watch episode 7, one of the most heart-breaking parts of the whole series. Nina is... she's such a precious kid, and she had to die*. Life's not fair.
Then I found something interesting. Up until today, I had always clicked off that episode before the ending theme started, because it just seemed too, I dunno, tacky, to have the happy, peppy song cue up as we're still crying with Ed in the alley. But today I watched the ending, and almost started crying again. Instead of the usual footage of the sparring and strife, it shows the boys with Nina and Alexander. And at the end, where Ed turns and smiles, it's a different, sad grin, and on "Darling" it's a picture of Nina and Alexander sleeping. It was beautiful.
(To all FMA fans who don't know, this is on the ENDING THEME OF EPISODE 7! Go see!)
I started taking clips from the episode for a collage, or maybe a vid, I'm not sure yet, but then it occured to me that a clean copy would be better. So I'm waiting another week until I can rent it on disc. I hope it works. I wonder what song would work for Nina, though. Maybe something by Jewel...
I'll see what I can do!

*Since this was episode 7 out of 51, I'm not very worried about spoiling it for fellow fans...

In other news today, I came to the conclusion a few days ago that since the logo has changed, all the old banners have been essentially scrapped (yeah, no duh, Lee). Then I realized something else: I could save my fave banners to my disc. This was also simple if I thought about it, but I'm happy none the less.
This is all for now. Ja ne!
  • End of Break... ToT 2005-03-26 22:42:18 that is my crying symbol... I don't wanna go back to school (especially since my history project is due on Thursday)! Lessee, to recap I'm in New York right now, and am heading back home tomorrow with parents (probably driving myself most of the way). Finished most of my schoolwork (kinda-sorta-maybe) and have various projects for various things that I've been... adding to. That's the overview.
I found an appropriate codec, so I can rip the episodes now (if another problem comes up, I'll be sure to write about it here. I think it's all good ^_^
I think I just discovered I have allergies. I'm in post-nasal drip hell...! Excuse me while I get *yet another* goddamn kleenex...
Just finished KimiNozo - my first anime soap opera! Okay, okay, I'm not giving it enough credit. It was better than I expected (especially after reading some reviews!); it was sweet.
Ah, parents kicking me out of the computer room: time to log off. Oyasumi-nasai!
  • Yah...n 2005-03-20 13:53:09 They changed the AMV logo today. Why? Well, it looks nice.
Tried to edit my FMA eps with VirtualDub, but it can't handle the XVID compression on them (or something). *CRY!* This applies to all the episodes I wanted to work with ToT...
Mission for the week: FIND A VFW-COMPATABLE CODEC!!
In the meantime, I can work with some episodes, so I am submitting shots to the FMA gallery ^_^.
    T.T Pitiful, yes.
  • HAGAREN ICHI-BAN!!! 2005-03-17 20:54:24 I have finished Full Metal Alchemist and loved it! True, it took a slight turn for the weird at the end, but it was incredible. And I've spent the last week or two hitting www.fullmetal-alchemist.com every day for new updates on the movie and the gallery forum. I've also viewed many great videos dedicated to it. Inverse and Tyler_yj, YOU_ARE_GODS. *_*
FMA was the best new anime I've seen in a while: funny and sweet, and dramatic and poignant. I loved Edward. Still love Edward. He turned into a noble young man ^_^. And Al was such a sweetie...! :D Every character was well-developed and appealing; subarashi! And those reviewers I read were right: the manga is just as god, if not better. I loved Barry's role in the manga, he was much more appealing (btw, Barry is the psycho from ep 8...^^;). All in all, this series was a great investment of time and disc space!
Question, though I doubt anyone will answer: What is the fascination lately with early 20th-century Europe? Steamboy and the Industrial Revolution, FMA ending up in post-WWI Munich studying rocketry... Why??
Just got cable yesterday: banzai!! True, the cable company is likely to screw us over, but maybe the bandcwidth will be worth it ^_^. Have started downloading Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (also thanks to Tyler_yj and his video Tormented Love).
I really should get back to my work... screw it. I resolve to type here more often and to leave some reviews over spring break... J'espere.
