The Agatha Christie anime is being fansubbed!
2004-08-29 00:19:20
It's called "Great Detectives Poirot and Marple". I'm downloading now and will write what I think later. But I'm excited. I'm a big fan of Agatha Christie novels, especially the Poirot ones and "And Then There Were None".
Obviously I can't tell you where to get it here, as it's against site policy. It's out there though, you just have to find it. Don't know whether it's worth the effort though.
I uninstalled Ulead Video Studio 8, and part of my Start menu seems to have disappeared. No biggie though.
I downloaded some of Pianos' videos, he's the guy from Japan who makes MADs. Also offered to recommend him some direct and indirect downloads, since he's still in his two-week period where he can't download locals. That goes for anyone, as a matter of fact. Just pm or email me, and I'll tell you some... can't think of many off-hand, but I could sort through my favorites list...
Watched the third disc of Haibane Renmei. It's quite good.

And the problems continue
2004-08-28 17:00:38
Ugh, lots of technical difficulties. Some of them are because my dad installed Windows XP service pack 2, which means the basic Windows programs re-installed, so now they're asking me a bunch of questions. Not so much a problem as an incovienience.
Ulead still has the same problems as last night - it refuses to let me edit in avi with anything other than full NTSC framerate, interlaced of course, and 320x240 resolution. Ugh. I was going to edit 23.976 progressive, 720x480, if possible, then make the video smaller later, but no. And that's smaller than I want it anyway. So Ulead Video Studio sucks.
Zwei-stein continues to have problems as well. It refuses to play both the video and audio at the same time, though it plays both individually just fine. Thought I'd put up a post about that. I did check the manual, and that didn't help.
So of course, there has been no progress whatsoever on my video *sigh* and I was so hoping to get it finished soon. I may end up giving up and doing it in Windows Movie Maker and save up for Vegas or Premiere (Vegas I haven't tried yet, 'cause the free trial won't let you save apparently, or at least no exporting).
I did get my dad to rent the third disc of Haibane Renmei for me, but I haven't watched it yet. The main TV (hooked up the the DVD player) is in use, so I may eventually have to haul my PS2 into the other room and try using it as a DVD player for once (can you believe, I haven't tried that after a whole year of owning it?).
My grandmother, who's staying with us right now, seemed a little disdainful when she found out what I was renting, as though she didn't think it could be any good. My parents are more tolerant, at least.
I saw an Azumanga Daioh/Lord of the Ring parody AMV yesterday. It was pretty awesome. I totally loved the casting.
I realized that with my schedule, I can't be in a play or sports if I want to, because my class is during the rehearsal time. O.O I didn't want to drop any classes, but I may have to. Oh well, I didn't want an eighth period class anyway (hey did I say all this last time? oh well).
*sigh*

Ulead = meh
2004-08-28 00:16:19
I've been trying it on the free trial and already I'm having trouble getting it to do what I want. It seems almost as limited as Movie Maker 2, except you have to pay for it (Ulead VideoStudio 8). And it crashes as much as Movie Maker. I'll try it again tomorrow, but I think I'll delete it without finishing my video (I didn't save last time... not that I'd done anything, was just playing around. At this rate I'd rather use Movie Maker, which at least I know how to use, plus it has a very nice interface. I also tried out a free program, Zwei-Stein. In some ways it's less limited than Windows Movie Maker, but it has a very unintuitive and ugly interface. Again I'll try it out more tomorrow, but I doubt it'll work out.
So far, the record for editing programs:
-Windows Movie Maker 2: very pretty & intuitive interface, functional, but crashes often and has some limitations I don't want (limited export options, no frame-by frame editing, clips slide back to start, only one video track). It's what I have, but I'm looking to replace it and wlling to pay for a better program.
-Virtualdub: ugh, I don't even want to try editing with this one. Seems like it would be hard.
-Premiere Pro 1.5: Even nicer interface than Windows Movie Maker 2. Less limitations than Windows Movie Maker 2, but has problems with 23.976 fps footage, a major drawback. Still the current winner. A bit on the expensive side though.
-Puremotion Editstudio 4: Rejected very early on for unintuitive controls; cutting, at least, should be easy, as it is in Windows Movie MAker and Premiere, but it wasn't.
-Ulead VideoStudio 8: seems likely to be rejected based on strange interface and weird limitations, as well as frequent crashes.
-Zwei-Stein: Bright, ugly, and confusing interface. Hard to tell where the buttons are. Free, which is a major advantage, but still a likely reject if I can't figure it out soon.
Maybe I'm being a little picky, but I don't have that much money, so I try to only buy things I'll be happy with, you know?
In other news, I made a lot of clips but I'm not sure if this video will work out. *sigh*
I saw some good vids yesterday.
I picked up my school schedule, and I have a first through fourth and an eighth period class. This will be VERY inconvienient because my school, though it's a high school, has a closed campus. I want to see if there's something I can do about it. I may try to drop the eighth period class if they'll let me. I don't want to sit at school for three periods every day, and I don't need the credit for the class.
Good thing is, though, I can get my learner's permit again.
Oh, I wish more things would go my way. I'd almost have preferred a zero period (before school).
*sigh* Life ain't fair...

Change of plans! ^_^
2004-08-25 21:47:45
I've had a new video idea. Uses a song I rather like, and involves ripping only one (yes I said ONE) DVD (it's a movie). Audio already ripped. Although I've ripped (but not prepared) some of the video for my remake video, I thought I'd make this first. I actually had two ideas of animes to use, and I had an idea to use both, but although they're awfully similar in animation style (made by the same studio after all) I decided that the video would be the best using only one of them, and I think I'm going to use the anime I currently like less out of the pair, sadly.
Oh well, it'd also look rather silly to make a remake with only one full video between the original and the remake, wouldn't it? Though I had a short segment as well. Oh the other great thing is I don't think I'll do any lipsyncing. *phew* Lipsyncing is *really* tedious, though it's nice once it's done and it often isn't all that hard.
Anyway though, i sort psyched right now and should go rip the video while I still am (oh and I'm going to use the Ulead video studio 9 trial for this, probably - Ulead I could at least afford, if I decide that I like it).

-what the greyish dog says in Dick Dastardly.
One of my banners got rejected for having a negative message. Bah! That just makes me more negative! Shall I clog up the banner submissions with oodles of negative banners? ...naw, there's no satisfaction in that.
All it said was, "You've submitted that banner twice. Give up already." This is a valid problem. Granted there's only so much the people who run this site can do about it, but it IS a problem. And I thought it was probably the best banner I'd made so far.

*sigh*
On a more positive note, I FINALLY finished the last of my "Dust Tracks on a Road" summer assignments, leaving only the rough draft of my college essay to finish in a little over a week before school starts.
...actually, that doesn't sound that positive. :(
...I've been experimenting with Launchcast radio (yahoo internet radio) and now have my own station.l It's not very good, though, because I can't decide exactly what to play and when, and they don't have some of my favorite artists. I might try Mercora, a free, legal, p2p internet radio service currently in beta (testing). On that, I can use my own mp3s or .wma, or whatever (though that means ripping a whole buttload of CDs.. 20+).
I may eventually get around to writing a whole long thing about my trip to Europe. Or not.
