JOURNAL: Harper (Harper cannot tell you his first name. Taboo.)

  • Aye Carumba... 2001-12-21 19:01:37 Well, it's finally OVER. >puts on appropriate album< SCHOOOOOOOL'S OUT... FOR... EVER!!! ...well, two weeks will have to suffice until I get to slide that sheik lil robe and toss some tassels and waste more of my folks' money on stuff I don't need. Love it. ^^ Thanks to Phade, I'm now checkin' AMV.org out in Konqueror! Pimpin! Red Hat 7.2 just keeps on gettin better and better. Of course, sound would be nice... yep, sound is good. So is software compatibility. That would be nice, too.

It's like... having a million American dollars in your wallet while on Uranus, where the currency is Credits, or Daktils, or sunflower seeds. It... just... isn't... too... helpful. But with any luck, things change. And, Lord forbid, if I actually ever have to use Windows for something (like, oh, AMV creations...), I have a dual-boot with >gag< WinME. Don't point at me; Dad set this up whilst I was a bad boy. Someday I'll replace it with Win98SE, but not until the system is MINE once again. I figger that once I'm in college, I'll have the money to get an import card and do whatever the phuk I please with this hunk of silicon. Till then, I use this piece with consent, and I'm not complainin' too loudly.

As it's that time of year, I'm headed south to visit with the grandmum and recieve my bundle of clothes for christmas. Bad thing: My Marine-in-training buddy that I've been talking of is only going to have enough time to see me... Saturday and Sunday. I'm leaving for Lansing ...you guessed it, from Saturday to Sunday. No cool. No see him, and to a lesser extent, no game. Well, one of my friends (who is also friends with him) is having him over for the weekend instead, and he'll be dropping off my copy of Smash Bros Melee, and handing my friend 25 smackers for my old Playstation (what can I say; I need money. 'sides, I'm getting a PS2 next year anyways.

Under the tree this year: N*Sync, Backstreet Boys, Smashmouth, X-men DVD... no games, no high-tech stuff. Just music and movies and clothing. If I'm getting Pikmin (I'll have to give Carl his copy back sooner or later...) this year, I'll have to do it this weekend. Which should be okay, seeing as I'm planning on getting a 20 buck gift certificate to the god-like store that is Best Buy. I love that place. Now, all I need is a JOB, an IMPORT CARD, a DRIVER'S LICENCE, and I'll have a great new year's day. yup. Not gonna happen, though. >sigh< Oh well, back to the applications board.

Life sucks. Then ya get laid.
  • Why Harper hasn't been paying enough attention to you... News at 11. 2001-12-18 17:27:51 Well, it's been a ...different weekend of sorts around this neck of the woods. Friday saw a near city-wide power outage. Why is still a mystery, but at least they finally got things back up and running at... umn, 11:30, I think it was. Before that, however, I had to head out of the house (and if you don't think that things can be damned dark when you're used to all the lights being on and then... poof, they be gone... you got another think comin'.) to drop by the party store (the car was gone, so it was a walk) and pick up some matches so I could mebbe find the stupid F'in flashlight. Walk in the store and decide to pick up a Mountain Dew and a few munchies as well. As I'm paying for it, a rather large woman and her fairly-portly daughter (really, no offense meant. They were BIG.) walk in and start badgering the clerk, asking when the power went out, why it was out, when it was going to come back on, why doesn't she know these things... if I was violent by nature, I think they would have gotten a few Eskimo Pies, courtesy of the Party Store freezers, stuffed in their pieholes. Being a better man than that, I walked out, shaking my head at the breed of stupidity around Michigan. Got home, lit some candles, found the damned flashlight that couldn't help me when I NEEDED it, and sat down to read. I crashed out on the couch around 9 or so and woke up at 11:30 by all the lights clicking to life, effectively blinding me. Dad walks in with a "yay" and immediately begins to power up the computer in order for him to check his mail and help people in need on the forums (muh daddy's a Microsoft MVP. Busywork.). By that time I just felt like crawing into bed (what can I say... school these past few weeks have been busy, busy and more busy).

Saturday (hahaha....) ooooohhhh, Saturday. How I loathe thee. The day started out nice, it really did. It was a fine day outside. Spiffay and the sort. Well, right around 8-ish at night (I was in the middle of watching Rush Hour 2 with mum), Dad walks into the room and announces that I have games on one of my hard drives that I hadn't paid for... in other words, borrowed from friends ("pirated" is such a strong word...). I shrug and say, "Yeah... so?"

    "They aren't there anymore."
    "Oh? Whyzat?"
    "I removed them."
A shrug. "Okay." "And everything else that was on the other two hard drives."

...now, I've been collecting MP3 files from albums of my own and the occasional borrowing-of-CD's from my friends... but a good couple hundred or so songs were singles which were downloaded from the internet. I had approximately 15 gigabytes of pictures (anime and manga, and that's all I'm sayin'.), music, ...and music videos (including the one that I was working on at the moment; if you need testimony that it was gonna be greatness, MeriC can indulge your imagination. She's the only one on the planet with my stuff and that four-second portion of the video in question.) Everything that I had created, downloaded, etc. That's right, folks. Everything that I've made... Gone. In a flash. There is ONE person on this planet that has my work. She can't really do too much with it, now can she? Damn my luck, and damn my father for not providing enough time to make at least a SMALL backup onto CD.

Well, his choice of action got me a bit preturbed, and the fact that he did this all over a few priated games (...) infuriated me to no end. Still does. Words could not express my frustration, but you can bet that I tried. In a blinding rage of words and namecalling, I hurt my parent's feelings... and I think I even disrespected the Church I go to (right around the point that Dad said it would be a good idea to "confess" my sins. I only remember a four-letter "f" word, so that couldn't have been good.)

I obviously have a problem when something like these material goods gets in the way with my relationships with people like my parents. I acnowledged this and have surrendered (somewhat reluctantly) all my goods to my father. My game consoles are in a brown paper bag, and my computer is on the livingroom table, where it will stay until I "earn" it back. I was expecting some deep fulfilment to ...erm... fulfill I guess... but it looks like the folks just want some good grades on the report card. I can indulge that.

The weird thing about it all is that I really don't miss all the stuff I had. It's probably been three months since I've actually sat down and watched some Anime (besides going over to Carl's house the weekend before last... and I watched the Oh my Goddess movie, which was two and a quarter F'in hours. When they said movie, this time they MEANT it.), and besides the occasional round of Pikmin on the Gamecube, I haven't been playing games. I've usually been in front of the computer with you fine people, talking with people and supporting a hobby (something that the folks obviously can't understand; it's a HOBBY! I'M NOT OBSESSED... >drools a bit to add to impact<).

Does this mean that I've lost all interest in what I've been doing for the past year or so, and have gone back to the book-reading nerd that I was back in third grade? Nope. I just need to balance out the two things a bit more responsibly this time around. Of course, this does mean that all the music videos I've done other than the one posted on the internet is now gone. I plan on working on the DBZ video I was working on before I inconvenienced myself (though I hafta do that first four seconds all over again... F'in A. I had that PERFECT, too... >sniff<) during Christmas break. Hell, you may see it online before Christmas break is over with, if Adiamante doesn't just kick my sorry ass off of Random Variable (I swear man, I'll do something with my account when I get some time!). Of course, if he does, I feel confident that some kind and generous soul will be able to give me a hand up until I get another job and actually round up enough money to get my sorry kiester onto my own .ORG domain (wouldn't that be lovely? Harper.org. Nono, Harper.net sounds so much more sleek. Hmm...). But I think he's a nicer person than that. RIGHT, JON?! ^^

Wow, look at the time! Told ya it was gonna be a big update. Things are obviously going to change now that I have a newfound interest in schoolwork (checking temperature as we speak), and I'm confident that it's for the better. After getting things out of the way (as sorry as I am that it had to come to this) I feel better towards my parents, and I take into consideration that it's not easy raising a sh!t like myself. >looks at readout< 98.6. Damn. Guess I'm going to school tomorrow.

Until then... ^-^ Ja-ne, my fine compadres! -=Harper

    Mebbe the thermo-gadget is busted..

  • Promise... 2001-12-17 18:14:48 Update coming soon. Fairly biggie. Expect tomorrow. Not enough time now. Notice small, incomplete sentences.

  • Now that the Ex has calmed down... 2001-12-15 16:34:21 The mob is gone... for now. After breathing a sigh of relief, I hear from my Marine friend that he's back in (his) town and is coming up to my town monday with a copy of Smash Bros. Melee that he wants me to keep for him. For eternity. I'm not bitchin'. So, he'll come over, play with the gamecube for probably... oh, a few hours? He's been outta the loop for so long now... at any rate, he's pretty much squeeging just looking at the box, but I've given him strict orders NOT to open the mofo. What kinda person buys someone a gift, opens it, then hands the used goods to you, saying, "just checking"?! Jeez Louise (haven't said that in six years), man. A lotta sick mofos walk this planet.

Finally, I have an update having to do with Anime (gasp! Say it ain't so, Harper!). That's right. I am a whole four seconds (w00t!) into my next decidedly-different nod to the pop-DBZ culture, and I'll be damned if you get any more hints than what I just said as to what the video is about/what the music is. I've sent the four seconds to >one< soul in this world. The rest shall wait. It's gonna be something else, that's for sure. Oh, and don't be surprised if Trunks Meets Devil comes out sometime after Christmas. You have been warned. I decided to put that one on the net because of two things. One, that next to the video that I've released, that one's got the attention of more people than any of the other stuff I've put up. If you haven't checked it out yet, do so, because it's gonna make history (snicker) before 2002 rolls its sweet ass onto your calendars.

Also got this hella-cool >music< keyboard for Christmas (and it looks like that's the "big gift" this year... dunno why they didn't just wait 'till X-mas to give that to me. Oh wait, now I remember, they OPENED IT AND MESSED AROUND WITH IT, saying, "just checking"! What kinda sick people roam this planet? Don't answer that.), and I found a nice freeware program that lets me lace Audio along with the High-quality General MIDI, allowing me to possibly make such nifty things as re-mixes. When I get something done, I'll plunk a link to it in my journal entry so you can check it out. Some things need no visual effects, kids. Music can be a moving art on its own. I think that Meri's new KOR video has influenced the choice of the first song I try to mess wit, yo, so when it's done (probably also after Christmas), I'll put it up in my webspace over at RandomVariable.net and link ya to it here.

Until then, my little dumplings and sugardrops... Ja-ne!

  • It's Scrooged! all over again... 2001-12-13 18:15:43 The past has come back to haunt me. My Ex has created a band of do-gooders to rid the world of the evil scum that is... Harper! Okay, so the mob only consists of three people, including her, but BOY... can three make a lot of noise. >taking asprin< Hope MSN was right, cos it looks like I can use all the anti-heart-attack protection that I can get, methinks.

At any rate, got a concert coming up in just a few. Then, I come home to play with my new GBA. Then comes Friday. Then comes the wonderful weekend when there will only be one GLORIOUS week until Christmas break! Thank you, Jesus!

So, for now, I let you go. Bye bye I say. Fare thee well.
