JOURNAL: Alternababe (Sabrina )

  • banners again 2005-07-11 03:43:01 I started making banners again. Maybe I have a lust for rejection. Probably...
Anyway, got some wallpapers & some fancy fonts, and am putiing those together. Also with snappy phrases. Perhaps one or two will turn into parodies. I don't seem to have a knack for turning my funny ideas into something that people in general recognize as being funny. Too bad.

Read madbunny's journal. So depressing. Feel more down now....Actually, I've been feeling depressed since I woke up. It was hot, even with the a/c, there is no food in the house, & no $ to buy any. Not til the end of the month anyway. Went back to sleep. Woke up at 1pm, still felt like shit, but a bit more awake. I did find some peaches that I bought with the last of my money. One peach, to be exact. Watched "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" with my mom. I shouldn't spend any more money on Dvds, esp. since I have unlimited rentals. The movie was like watching my own mind, in that my memory is unreliable & fades abnormally fast. Maybe I never created memories in the first place. All I know is that after 2 years, I remember almost nothing about my life at the time. I wonder if it's like that for everybody... I looked at some old pictures the other month, & even tho I was in some, I didn't remember any people in the pictures or even having taken them.

Perhaps my fading memory should scare me, but it doesn't. I'm probably just used to it by now. It's funny when I can't remember something I say literally 2 minutes after I say it. Also annoying.
  • just for kicks, 2005-07-05 00:21:52 my star ratings, from highest to lowest

Come Play My Game (DVD) (2005-03-06) [hits: 244] [ops: 2] [stars: 57] [star avg: 3.51]
    We're in Heaven/We're in Hell: the Ballad of Leif & Jessica (DVD/downloaded) (2005-04-04) [hits: 287] [ops: 2] [stars: 59] [star avg: 3.15]

Same Old Perfect Blue??? (2005-04-11) [hits: 117] [ops: 2] [stars: 15] [star avg: 3.13]

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I bring you ghosts! (dvd) (2005-03-17) [hits: 121] [ops: 3] [stars: 29] [star avg: 3.10]

    Doing E @ the Full Moon Concert (2005-04-27) [hits: 130] [ops: 3] [stars: 28] [star avg: 3.07]

    Tsukasa's Choice (2003-11-15) [hits: 2088] [ops: 7] [stars: 604] [star avg: 3.03]
All the rest were below 3 stars. In chronological terms, I've gone: down, down, *up, up, up, down, up, down, down, down, up

I think this means I should stick to action in the future, & definately avoid subs (duh). My current project is nonexistant, but I have a bunch of partially started stuff I probably won't finish. I would like to develop my remaining ideas, but finding the episodes with the scenes I want is so time & hard-drive space consuming. I have enough space for maybe one last video, then I either need to get a dvd-burner for the dv masters, or a larger hard drive.
  • the shithead asshole entry 2005-06-30 23:15:19 Just for kicks, I feel like listing the editors I feel are the best on the site. Note: if I have only seen one amazing video by a particular editor, they probably aren't here. I want a reminder to myself of who I really like, so I can both continue to check for and enjoy their videos, & also set a standard for myself to aspire to. Plus, it's fun!
    1. dokidoki
    2. aluminum studios
    3. brain-carnival
Ok, it's a short list, but I've seen LOTS of videos from them, usually as many as possible, and -every- -single- -one- totally blew my mind. I could go on about how great they are, but everyone already knows.

Lessee, who else do I really like?

E-ko: for tainted donuts (the classic amv) Actually, I feel like Tainted Donuts alone could stand as a case for why amvs exist in the first place. In a word it = perfect. He also did Busters 3, which I also liked.

Machine: for alternate reality (the amazing dvd-esque boogiepop trip), & sense of identity. Sense of identity is another journal entry in itself.

Tom the Fish: I love his vids as much as I hate him for deleting them. Mokushi des ne is one of my favorite videos of all time, & it's a shame that it's no longer available for public viewing. Of the 6 videos he uploaded for a short time, I liked about 4, 1 of which blew my mind a little. The one with the bizarre audio "this is a natural thing" to evangelion.

Fly by Night Design: dig my grave/slayers. It's a classic, back when they might be giants was still pretty underused in the amv community. At least, that's my impression. Spidah! That one was pretty cool. The version I saw was painfully short, tho. I wonder if there is a longer version.

nightowl: becuz his(her?) username also contains the word :night: and I wanted to seperate them in my mind. He did the amazing video of original animation based on the Sandman to Captain Jack. That owl logo sticks in my mind.

I'm pretty sure there was also a "fly by night studio" that did "the pain of ryoko's heart". I did a search and found a user "Yakumo", no studio listed, who did that vid, & I think it's him. I loved that video, both because it made me see Tenchi in a new way, & because it was one of the first vids I ever saw, & the novelty of watching video n my computer for the first time was thrilling to me. Wow, that was a long time ago. I might as well say it here, when I first started watching amvs, it seemed like they were created by untouchable gods, people incapable of being reached by us mere mortals. Then I saw the linkin ball z videos XP. Now, back to the list...

ReannaKing (rbbrtr prods, probably misspelled): One word: Trogdor! The Elven Bride/Trogdor vid introduced me to homestarruner.com & all the good times to be had there. Then, Trogdor Revisited, with Filia. Better visual quality with that, but I like both equally. Her vids are just really unique & fun to watch.

Jesmaster: another creator I discovered early on, probably with trippin on utena. He's done so many videos I bet half aren't even in the catalogue. Some are good, some are not, he is probably the closest person to me on the site in talent. I hope that doesn't come off as pretentious. With many of his vids, I found myself searching for something in a particular show, such as the episode of Cowboy Bebop featuring Mad Perriot, and downloading one of his videos. It's weird when you download a variety of different videos from a creator, -when you haven't searched for them by name-. I really liked his eva lip sync polka video, mostly because of the way he used the intro for maximun effect. Wow. I still can't believe only 16 of his vids are in the catalogue. Probably he picked and chose his best ones. I'm writing too much on this guy. Moving on...

Famous Creators. The ones that look familiar when I browse the forum & they are mentioned. Sometimes frequently. The defiant part of me wants to steer clear of the obvious popular choice, which conflicts with the part of me that's willing to try anything. I usually try to download at least one vid per famous creator, to see what all the fuss is about. I have not been disappointed yet ;P

AbsoluteDestiny. yes, shameless rock video, I wish I was a Lesbian Ian Roberts. I know him first from the video of "boys" where he put makeup on the characers. It was an ok video, a bit forgettable. Then came the 2003 vcas. iwiwal was there. I wanted to check out all the vids that people on the site said were great. I downloaded it. Wow. Best lip sync ever. It made me laff my ass of. After repeat viewings. Impressive. I later wanted to see shameless rock video. The title made me nervous that it would be an anti-rock video or something. Of course, it was great. The lum band effect, also visible in his user avatar, is one of the defining moments in digital effects in amvs. Well done, but you alrready knew that, didn't you?

phade: site creator *worships* I have only seen "Material Girl" to Nibiki, but I loved it. It's been with me on many a long boring plane trip :)

willow: actually replied to a review I gave for "LucIsWatchingYou"!! Also, UntitledZeroOne. The first review, I had no idea of Willow's prescence in the forms. The second one, I was on cloud nine. I love when people resond to my reviews, esp. when they like them :)

requiett: this guy like to make some creative titles. what happened to just using the song name? that aside, this guy is prolific. Image Diabolique. The Eva/paint it black video. I didn't like it the first few times I saw it, because I didn't feel that the effects went with the song. Then I made a similar video (which will probably never be finished) and with that filter, I can see the video in a different light, and I like it quite a bit more. Nameless. I got a reply with that one! I don't remember this video. I see it in pink every time I check for review replies. I click on it to see if my review has clues. It doesn't. There is no smilie or word to describe my face every time I realize this, but it looks something like the scenes in full metal alchemist where a character turns to stone. Oh, well, I must have liked it at least a little, judging from my scores. Schizophrekia. This is how I remember requiett. There really is no other video like this out there. It's really different & creative. I like the different little characters throughout. Off the topic for a moment, requiett promised me a review sometime in the future! Can't wait!

Pwolf: I first heard of Pwolf from that video "Brotherhood of the pwolf". So I made a note of it. Couldn't figure this guy out. Downloaded Mitternacht. Got it.

MetalWolf: It's great how he replies to reviews XD
History in Anime. Need I say more? It was great. That's it.
he also did "the drinking problem."

kai stromler: why do I know that name? I know it's for some reason other than just videos, and it bugs me that I can't remember. Maybe I heard it in forums or something. Anyhoo...Ok, he did Reflection, the prince of tennis video that I liked. & he replied to my review :D Recently (like yesterday) I saw "blood to sand", which I keep wanting to think of as being which hunter robin (?), but it is the ultra heavy metal perfect blue. It ain't half bad, either. Apparently that's all of his vids that I've seen.

kusoyaro: don't know if this person is famous, but the name really rings a bell, so I'll go for it. "Somewhere only we know". That one never gets old. "Build me up Buttercup" Apparently I'm not the only one who likes it, because it was played at the anime club of my college. It's a good'un. Ugly girls of anime! That's who did that! That's so old, but so funny.

flint the dwarf: I've only seen "Delicate Beauty". Oooo, he didn't like my review of it...

    Kevin Caldwell: Sleep. Now.
    Engel/Eva.
Those are the ones I remember. I have yet to see believe, but it's on my list. I also saw caffiene encomium, but it didn't really stand out in my mind like those other 2 videos. The eva one especially, because eva vids start to really blend together after awhile, but that one was hilarious AND dramatic. Woeahw.

arigatomina: when I had trouble playing "too much anime", he responded & helped me to play it. That was a really cool thing to do. that is one MULTI anime video, that's for sure. Let's see...he also did "innocent love" & "enduring love" to sailor moon, & "animal attraction". Animal Attraction is HIS video. That's the one I remember, and I think he put lots of himself into that. It's awesome *dumb grin*

ErMac. Extraordinary world, anyone? Best effects since euphoria, it's too bad he won't make more vids. Here's hoping he will.

otohiko. I had never heard of him til the Wasteland. Just when you thought every possible way to use evangelion had been done...That's not true. He also did "damage", but that doesn't stick out in my mind the way the wasteland did for so many people. He replies to reviews :)

This is a long journal entry.
Last, but absolutely positively not least, the nicest creators on the site.

    JaddziaDax. She's super nice.

Madbunny: he will always help out by giving an op or advice.

kirin: because he helped me start creating dvd-rip vids both with his guide & also by responding to my various frantic emails.

rut kiskasca: he likes my videos! He really likes them!

I hope this entry alone doesnt turn me into the next sammy.
  • doppelhertz 2005-06-30 14:24:26 Just finished watching the free dvd included with "the golden age of grotesque" by marilyn manson. The cd is not their best work, the first track, "theatre" is ok.
The dvd is a movie that features the song "theatre", an instrumental track, with marilyn manson speaking over it. The video is a short film/music video where there are two plots" manson putting on prosthetics & makeup sloooooowly, and manson driving and picking up 2 girls & bringing them to a room to watch them sit next to each other on the bed.

It was boooooooring. You know those Robert Palmer videos from the 80s where he made the whole video look the same so that if Mtv only played a clip, parts of the video wouldn't be ommited? Pair that with the scene in the original "Shining" where Johnny's wife finds his typerwriter & all he wrote was "all work and no play make Jack a dull boy" over & over. That happened here as well. Manson had some interesting things to say, too bad they were repeated ad naseuem. Perhaps he suffers from OCD. I got thru it by fast-forwarding at 4x speed, and even then it dragged.

At the end of the movie, the screen said that these words might be Manson's last. I never thot I'd say it, but that might not be such a bad thing. Is it possible he has run out of things to say?
  • 3 new bands I love & hate 2005-06-21 01:47:32 Just watching Mtv now, & rememebering why I stopped in the first place.

The band on was "Hawthorne Heights" a name I want to remember just so I can remember how bad they are.
The 2nd band on, n a row, was "My Chemical Romance." It's so unfair, they have a really cool look, but their music is awful.
In the paper a few weeks ago, I was looking at bands performing locally. A name that stuck out in my mind was "Coheed & Cambria." I figured that with a name like that, they would be really unique & interesting. They are not. I saw one of their live videos, & they sound exactly like every-other-band-rite-now. You know, watered down cannibal corpse followed by almost linkin park-esque choruses.

All in not lost. I DO like "the Used". Even tho they are touring with my chemical romance, they are actually pretty good.
"Stiff Little Fingers." If not for the internet, I would not know they existed. They sound a lot like the butthole surfers, who I also like.
The 3rd place (tho everything in this journal entry is in no particular order, except the 1st 2 being in order played) is a tie between the Ravonettes & that band that starts with a "T" that did the song about "some of my friends sell records, some of my friends sell drugs". It's a tie between them because I've heard 1 song each from them, but I did like both songs.

On a side note, I have been notiing for a while now that the station bumpers from g4techtv & mtv (& nintendo) are often more creative than the things they advertise for.
