Bad day. Forgot painting supplies. Later Forgot resume. Had to ask mom to bring them. Then had no ride. Called taxi. Guy looked to the left of me, even tho I waved, then drove off. Called second taxi. Waited. Got home, tho he missed the turn. The extra milage was his tip. That was my day/.

I hate Long Beach
2005-09-07 00:48:33
I've been going out to eat more often than normal lately. It's kind of nice, but my mom keeps driving me to the shitty part of town (everywhere within a 10-mile radius of our house). I keep trying to get my message across, I don't feel safe here (I was attacked twice on the street with all the resturants). I prefer to go to Huntington Beach, even tho it is full of snobs (there are some cool people. The host at Panama Joe's was totally hot). I also like West Hollywood, but my mom has an anyeuresm every time I try to get her to drive me there, & without a car I cant do much to get there on my own.
Every resturant near my house has a different horrible problem. Tonight I went to a Chinese Buffet, and everything was cold & tasted of garlic. So we'll be eating at IHOP quite a bit in the near future. Why, oh why, do I have to live in Long Beach? I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the OC. Sure, everyone who lives there is a total asshole, but at least they only snubbed me instead of threatening to kill me. Life is hard.

Hurricane
2005-09-04 17:31:42
Well, as if my life had already been going smoothly (it hadn't), Hurricane Katrina happened. At first I wasn't worried, because even tho I have family in Mississippi, they mostly live in Jones county, not Harris county (where the hurricane hit the hardest, and where the death toll is highest). I'm glad no one I know was in Biloxi at the time, yet I still feel horrified. The news is trying its hardest to put "spin" on it, like the way they won't show any dead bodies or upsetting images, and now CNN is showing relief efforts, but the hurricane's damage is not even close to being over. This isn't a movie with an easy to follow plot, it's real life, and whatever efforts are being done to help the victims are too little and not soon enough. I believe there is still time to save most of the people (I mean the ones still stuck on their roofs and at risk of death due to dehydration), but the people in charge really dropped and continue to drop the ball on this one. We need more people out there, for sure, and more rescue vehicles. I'm shocked that officials knew that the levies were in poor shape & chose to do nothing just to save money. Infrastructure is vitally important to abating natural disasters, as are strong building codes, and in this case the actions of those in charge of funds allocation were inexcusable.
On a lighter note, I was finally able to get into contact with my grandparents. At first the only contact into the state was a ham radio operator, but for a brief instant a pay phone worked, and my grandpa was able to call & leave a message that he & my grandma are doing fine. They are lucky, as they have a motor home to live in, complete with generator, but the major roads are all blocked with trees. I believe some roads are now partially clear and usable by emergency vehicles, but I still feel anticipation about the general living conditions for people in the lower half of the state. Electricity is, from what I understand, still off for most or all of the southern counties, and will not be restored for as long as a month. There is water service, altho it needs to be boiled before it is safe to drink. Hopefully everyone or most people have food and supplies to survive until disaster relief restores basic utilities. I dont know of any looting, but then some stores were open briefly in the town I called. The cell tower now works again, so I have a lifeline to any news.

concert log
2005-09-02 18:04:49
I have been to a few live musical acts in my life time. Here they are.
Nipper & Counting Crows (Irvine Ampitheatre, before it was called the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater)
Rebecca St. James (somewhere is Mississippi)
Gravity Kills & Cowboy Mouth (House of Blues Now Orleans)
Blondie (biloxi)
Circ de Solei (Biloxi)
STYX (Biloxi)
Peter Murphy (House of Blues Anaheim)
I think that's it. I may be missing a few, but who cares? My point here is I NEED to see more shows.
